We booked this hotel via a deal on Groupon, which included flights and accommodation on a half board basis. I read reviews on tripadvisor as I usually do and was disappointed to read about peoples' experience of the evening meals. We did, however decide to try them and make our own evaluation on our first evening. We were very disappointed by the very bland soup, chicken curry with lumpy rice and three slices of apple we were presented with. Food is an important part of our holiday experience and we ate at some of the excellent local tavernas for the rest of our stay.
We would stay here again, but only on a bed and breakfast basis. Breakfast was fine, with some fresh fruit, good cereals, greek yoghurt, eggs etc and an efficient toaster.
Our suite was lovely, very clean, with good facilities, lots of storage, effective hairdryer, balcony with lovely view. We were near the top of the hill and found that the hot water pressure was not good, particularly in the mornings. The shower regularly just dribbled or stopped completely, As others say, jacuzzi bath was nice touch. Towels were not great and changed once weekly, though I understand the need to save water. Also toiletries were not replaced at all and we ran out of liquid soap as we were using it for showering as well as hand washing. You have to pay extra for air con-this was not stated on Groupon.
We loved the pool and the pool area. As others say, we could always get a sunbed, it was not busy at this time of year.
We found Caterina to be very helpful- with car hire, suggestions for sightseeing etc.
Finally, the hotels' location is beautiful, on the hillside with cliff behind and three lovely villages along the road to visit with tavernas and shops. 15 minute walk to the beach, hard on the way back up, particularly in the heat of the day.
Our recommendation for eating- David Vegeras taverna, 2 minutes from the hotel. Very good value food, meze choices, excellent food, always full with customers waiting for a table.
Higher rooms have poor hot water pressure and some noise from main road.

Dear Valuable Client,
Report response as inappropriate
Thank you for your time and for your review at Tripadvisor.
Meals are indeed an important part of someone holidays and we read it very carefully.
We took certain steps immediately after sensing ceratin issues.
We replaced our chef at the end of May, in an attempt to reach the highest possible customer satisfaction level with a new one more experienced and more qualified. Indeed, Michael - our new chef, is a competent, energetic young man with studies and working experience in Switzerland and in restaurants with Michelen awards. What he chooses to offer every night is carefully selected, cooked and presented. As I have already stated, we believe in quality and not quantity.
We offer traditional Mediterrenean Cretan dishes, cooked with quality. Our meals are freshly cooked on a daily basis, are different every day and we offer a wide variety of tastes dishes so that our guests can get in touch with the real Greek cuisine.
Sometimes technical problems come up even at our own houses. When you reported the issue you had with the water pressure, I think we acted immediately and corrected it at once. We apologize for any incovenience this may have caused to you. Towels should be replaced every day if they are used and are on the floor. We are an energy friendly hotel, as stated in the leaflet in your room and we do not believe in wasting tons of water or polluting the enviroment with chemicals and detergents without any reason.
A/C was not included in our deal and we keep our deals. We offer more to the Amazones customers because this is our philosophy: "always something more". We respect our clients and their precious holiday time, so we do everything we can do and much more for you.
If you had informed us during your stay, that your amenities and hand soap were not replaced, we could corrected that immediately. We are very sorry that we did not know about it when you were here.
Once again, we want to thank you for your given time reviewing our property as well as for your constractive comments.
We are looking forward to seeing you soon in the coming future.
Have a good summer.
