My wife and I stayed here for two nights in June, 2010. It was a great way to start our six-island trip to Greece.
The hotel has a terrific location on the waterfront at the edge of the business district. It is just 20 meters from the bus stop, and 100 meters to the ferry dock – easily walkable even with luggage. There is a nice view from the 2nd floor terrace over the harbor. The terrace serves as a common balcony for rooms on that floor. The lobby area has character – decorated in Greek country style, with sitting/reading/tv area and a desk with internet access, and a cute restaurant where breakfast was served.
Our room (#208) was a 2-room suite. One room was a small sitting area with a sofa and table, and it opened onto a private balcony with a village view. The bedroom proper was good sized, with a queen bed, two night stands, table, desk, built-in closet with luggage shelves for two suitcases. The decor was attractive and unpretentious. The wall-mounted a.c. unit was efficient and quiet.
The attractive blue-tiled bathroom was a bit small with a sink only and very little counter or shelf space. Shower only; hand-held in a large tiled stall.
The buffet breakfast was excellent, probably the best on our trip. Several types of fresh fruit, pastry, yogurt, cereal, hard-boiled eggs, meats, etc, etc. , all attractively laid out and served in the dining area which, although inside, had a view of the harbor.
The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful.
All in all, the Portiani is a very pleasant place to stay, and we do not hesitate to recommend it.
