We recently went on our honeymoon to the Greek Isles and stayed at several 4-star hotels and this was by far the worst one.

Negatives:
The walls are paper thin...which would not have been such a bad thing except for the fact that the Casino is next door and they had LOUD music playing well after midnight.

The bed was a king and was lumpy (i.e. there were two body indents on each side of the bed). The breakfast buffet was extremely loud and busy (we barely found a spot to sit!).

For our honeymoon, it was an extremely unromantic and claustrophobic experience.

The agents at the front desk were not friendly nor helpful.

Positives:
The bathroom was one of the nicer we stayed in and the view from our sea-room view balcony was great.

This hotel is great if:
You are here to stay at the overcrowded, unremarkable beach across the street from the hotel and not interested in the medieval old town (which was a 15 minute walk from the hotel).

The Mediterranean Hotel was fine but nothing special. But that seems to be the consensus for the big hotels on Rhodes. We had some problems with our reservations that we later found out were due to our travel agent. Unfortunately the receptionist did not seem particularly anxious to help us and was not particularly sympathetic. At one point when I asked if even though our travel agent had messed up so could she helped us, she said "We have no other rooms. This is June, what do you expect?"

Another note is that we decided to stay here instead of a small inn in Old Towne becaus we wanted a pool for our children. Even though Greece was starting its string of 100 degree days just before we got there, the pool sits in the shade all day and was almost too cold to swim in.

The hotel does sit right across from the beach and we enjoyed walking along the beach in the evening and enjoyed a lovely sunset with the sun setting over Turkey.

The breakfast was very good, and we received good service there and from some of the other people at the reception desk.

Overall, the Mediterranean is fine but nothing special.

“Really enjoyed the Mediterranean”

We stayed at the Mediterranean as part of our package holiday and were really happy. Our room was nice and kept clean. Unfortunately we didn't have a view but that didnt really matter. The breakfast buffet was also great and had a lot to choose from. I think the best part about the hotel is the location. You are right beside the casino and a walk into the Old Town is only about 15 minutes. Also, if you plan to do any tours to Lindos or such, you are only about 5-10min away from the harbour.
We were surprised to find out that they included 2 meals per day into our package price. We never did eat lunch or dinner there however, because we were always out and on the go. Definately go into the Old Town in the day and at night. Everyone will hound you to eat in their restaurant. The nicest one we found was called "Mama Sofias". We had a great meal there and it was reasonably priced.
Oh...one negative, I did read on tripadvisor that the staff at the Mediterranean are very rude. I have to agree on this one. I received dirtly looks from female staff and a couple males on the desk were also very rude. They do not care about their customers. This was only found at the front desk though. Everyone in the restaurant was nice.
The beach outside the hotel was just average.

“Over-rated hotel”

Stayed at Mediterranean Hotel on June 16 - 19, 2007 thru arrangement by our travel agent.
Agree with what the other reviewers say about this hotel.
I find nothing positive with this hotel except for a relatively convenient location to old town and new town. The people at the reception could turn you into "ice", room is small, bathroom/toilet is small, the electricity is magnetically controlled, no safe, rules regarding bar and used of the room makes you feel as if you're a grade school student (e.g. remove anything from the minibar and you pay for it; do not cook in the room...I could hardly walk around!), no internet, no business center, you have to buy internet card at 3 euros for 30 minutes which can be used only on the reception floor), the breakfast buffet have to be shared by flies going around and eating the same things 3 days in a row really dampens the appetite, toiletries were not change, bed is hard, pool is very small and limited space for sunbathing, Beach opposite the hotel is heavily occupied, pebbly and littered. Rhodes is a very nice and beautiful island to visit which makes it easier for us to avoid spending time at the hotel unless necessary, This hotel experience taught us to do homework (i.e. research on better hotel like reading up on reviews on Tripadvisor) and not just rely on travel agents.

Mediterranean hotel has very nice rooms but the reception staff are very unfriendly and unsmiling, they actually make you feel uncomfortable.

At breakfast when we asked the waiter for tea instead of the offered coffee we saw the lip visibly stiffen and are frowned on as if preferring tea is some great insult.

I found the Hotel to be full of their own importance which they have no right to be as there are plenty of Hotels much nicer .

I was always told never to let my passport out of my sight but at the Mediterranean they insist on hanging on to it and you are told you can pick it up later, why do they think they can be trusted with it???
certainly not because they have friendly smiles!!

If they change the staff I would go reccommend it because of the great location,
