“Nice location, but...”

Hotel Andreas

On paper (or the internet), the Hotel Andreas looks like a great romantic option, but this is largely dependant on the room. We were a bit unlucky in that we had a room (number 22, Clea) that had an outside bathroom and very little storage space. The advertised private terrace actually requires a lambada with a tree and a walk along a fairly narrow ledge - and to be honest, it's not really worth it. The terrace itself is a bit overgrown and was incredibly windswept when we were there.

The bathroom was also a bit disappointing. Although we had sole use of it, we had to walk across the main courtyard to get to it, past the door of one of the other rooms. Hot water was a luxury - although you could cut the time you spent in the bathroom by sitting on the loo and having a shower at the same time!

It's not 100% negative, though. The staff were very pleasant and the breakfast was good - and was served in the terrace bar which has great panoramic views across the Old Town.

“Lots of character”

Hotel Andreas is a characterful place to stay in Rhodes Old Town. Each room is very different. We stayed in two of those, #18 and #17. #18 had a cute terrace with a great view and #17 had enough room for 4 and a loft. A mistake was made with our reservation (we were supposed to be in the honeymoon tower suite) and while we were initially upset, the staff was truly apologetic and tried to make amends. Breakfast was pleasant and the rooms were clean enough. It's not fancy at all, but it's so cute and in such a great location that it doesn't really matter. Recommended.

Three of us traveling together had 2 rooms. We had the most expensive room which did have a great view. The bathroom had been updated and was OK. The staff was friendly. That was the good. The bad: plumbing was terrible, the place did not seem clean, our room was small, our friend's room (with the exclusive use of the roof terrace - a rooftop with a clothesline, 2 small chairs and a table) had little ventillation, breakfast was extra (should have been included at these prices), the place really needs more upkeep. I really would not recommend this place to friends.

I stayed at the Hotel Andreas for one night in early March. The british woman Pauline who showed me my room and cooked breakfast was very friendly and helpful. The breakfast room is spacious with great views of the town (unfortunately I lost my photo of this room so it is not attached). Pauline cooks a good breakfast (my best in greece).
My room had a great view of the city and had a large bed (most of the beds in greece you can easily roll off of they are so narrow). The bathroom had plenty of space with a separated shower that didn't drench the rest of the bathroom when you showered. The hotel is off a very quiet narrow street in the old town. I can't imagine a better place to stay. There are only a handful of rooms so that adds to the quietness and privacy. Some of the rooms have the bathroom across the hall. Mine was in the same room which I requested so you might keep that in mind.

The three of us stayed at Hotel Andreas in Sept this year (2006) and I must say it was great. The staff are fantastic and nothing is too much trouble. Probably because none of them are Greek. Patrick does the breakfast which is basic but enough. It consists of bottom less coffee served to your table and then you help yourself to Greek yoghurt topped with honey and all the bread you can eat. There are about a dozen different kinds. There was also cheese and condiments and some fresh fruit. The breakfast room is the highlight. It is open air with an awesome view. The rooms are great. We travelled with an 18-month old baby girl and the loft stairs were a bit of a drama, but the location of the Hotel in the old city is just so awesome and they have everthing you need. The hotel is traditional style so the walls are about a metre think and once you close your door, it is like a vault. If you are coming from the airport, DO NOT try and get a cab. Make sure you ask the hotel to organise to pick you up. It is nearly impossible to find this place in the windy roads of the old city. If you want to stay in the old city, I would highly recommend Hotel Andreas.
