We have passed Tamarind several times and decided to give it a try last night. Upon entering, we noticed the restaurant to be relatively empty with only a few tables occupied, yet we were made to wait for several minutes before being seated. The prices are more expensive than most of their competitors, combining this with the very modern and swish interior, we were hoping to be in for a treat! We found the food to be very enjoyable and freshly cooked but there seemed to be an awful lot of oil/ghee used in dishes- even our naan breads arrived with a pool of oil on top- yeuch!
We did not have to wait for long between courses but felt very frustrated with the poor levels of service from some of the staff. We had to ask 3 times for a pepsi for my partner as the staff would keep just walking by, acknowledging our request, then seemingly forgetting about it! Also we found it odd that at the end of our meal, we were not offered a dessert menu- instead one of the staff simply muttered 'anything else?' when we had finished our mains. We ordered a couple of coffees which took a while to arrive and were ungraciously plonked down onto our table, sadly like the rest of our meal.
This place has great potential and a lot of good things going for it, however the poor service we received throughout our meal has definitely made us think twice about returning. Sadly it didnt seem like we were the only customers to be unhappy with the service- one gentleman was complaining loudly to the manager about the way he was served, and the couple at the table next to us looked rather miffed when they enquired why their bottle of wine was taking so long to reach the table and were bluntly told: 'It was warm on the shelf so we put it in the freezer for a bit!'
