Originally having found MGM Sozopol on AirB&B I wasn't sure what to expect but Gana & Michael welcomed us like old friends at their family owned and operated B&B. Not only did we get a great (and cheap!) room with a beautiful balcony overlooking the Black Sea but Gana & Michael personally picked us up from the bus station in Burgas so that we wouldn't have to take a 2nd bus!! Michael is a native English speaker and Gana is fluent in Spanish (native Bulgarian), so we were able to converse with each of them, and they are both extremely well traveled and very interesting to swap travel stories with. Just a small example of their hospitality, when we told them our plans to go to the beach in town they suggested a nicer beach off the beaten track, offered to drive us there, and then lent us their own beach umbrella!
The room was pretty standard, nice and clean with a mini fridge and private bathroom, but the balcony was amazing - great view of the Black Sea! Also available to guests is the roof top patio with lounge chairs which has a gorgeous view of the water. Free Wi-Fi as well. The only negative thing I can say is that our room faced east so it was quite bright every morning. Worth it for the view though, and wouldn't be a problem for early risers.
Gana made us breakfast each morning helping us try different Bulgarian specialties (crepes, juice, etc). Our filling homemade breakfasts were a mere 1.50 euro each.
This was the best place we stayed in our entire 2 week trip through Bulgaria and I truly cannot express how warm and welcoming Gana and Michael were to us, way above and beyond the service you'd expect from a B&B. We actually ended up staying an extra night in Sozopol, not because we liked the town so much (we had already seen everything) but because we felt so at home and comfortable at MGM Sozopol. When it was time for us to move on to Nessebar their daughter walked us to the bus station to make sure we got on the right bus and spoke to the driver in Bulgarian for us.
Honestly, don't bother staying anywhere else, this place is an AMAZING value for your money - cheap even by Bulgarian standards, has a good location, and the people are so wonderful. I'd love to find more gems like this place, and hopefully I'll make it back again someday!
