Most people have moaned about the steps down to the shopping centre, trust me, its not that bad!!

puerto rico is built in a valley, dont go there if you dont like hills!
Also, this is one of the nearest hotels they have to the centre and beach. Alot of the other hotels and complex's have been built right on the top of the hill, meaing you have to get a taxi everywear.

this apartments are VERY clean and tidy, pools cold but clean. Wasnt too busy when we went so lots of space to lounge about by the pool. Had a lovely balcony which over looks the pool and could see right down to the beach.

Snack bar good, good price. They even had the footy on in the bar! Would definatly recommend to anyone.

My wife and I stayed for 2 weeks in Jan 2008, we found the apts were very clean and the staff more than helpfull and very friendly. but if you are over sixty like us you should know that there are 200 steps down to the shopping centre , going down is o.k. but use the local taxis to get back up [cost 2.50 euro], when the apts are full the pool area gets crowded and you will need to get the towels out early to get a space. However there is both day and night entertainment at the complex and the beaches and harbours are a half hour stroll away. The cheapest bar in the shopping complex was M and M,s an d if you want to avoid being hassled by all the restuarant owners in the complex turn right out of the Calador walk 100 metres and look for a place called Minanas it doesn,t look a lot from outside but do try the food it is excellent and reasonably priced.

I have been to Puerto Rico about six or seven times now and I absolutely love it. I could go back again and again!

Cala D'or Apartments are situated about half way up the valley of Puerto Rico and so they would not be as suitable for those who find it hard to walk or don't enjoy a bit of exercise. There are about a hundred and sixty steps down into the resort from the apartments and that means you either have to climb them back up or simply get a taxi for a couple of Euros. There are always loads of taxi's available.

The apartments are basic but very clean and well looked after. Maid service is every day with a day off and towels are changed a couple of times a week and bedding done weekly.

The pool is only small and the pool terrace is a bit of a squash to get all the sunbeds in but it was adequate for what I needed. I spent most of my time sunbathing around the pool and swimming when it got too hot although the water was absolutely freezing and I couldn't stay in long!! The sun came onto the terrace about ten o'clock in the morning and stayed until well after six at night.

Puerto Rico is a very lively resort suitable for couples, families and the elderley and there is something to do for everyone. There are plenty of supermarkets for your shopping (even a Netto and a Spar) and there are loads fo gift shops. There are hundreds of restaurants and fun pubs. They all try and pester you to get you to go in their restaurant/bar but if you are polite and say no thanks most of them will leave you alone.

Food in the resort ranges from English to Chinese, Indian, Italian, Japanese and even good old Spanish so there is plenty of chioce.

As Puerto Rico has a lot of bars and pubs the only downfall is the noise. If you stay in a hotel at the bottom of the valley you will be guarenteed to hear music every night until 4am when it switches off completely. The further up the valley you stay the less you hear it and its almost like a background buzz which you tend to ignore. If you can't put up with music every night played till late then don't go as it would not be for you. I had absolutely no problem with it and I'm certainly not a clubber! I just went to eat in a restaurant and then went round a couple of bars and had a few drinks. Some nights I just stayed on my balcony with a nice bottle of wine.

My verdict is that I would recommend this resort and apartments for anyone who likes to have a great holiday but doesn't mind climbing a few steps and can bear the music hum in the background.

I have booked the Cala D'or again for 2008.

The apartments were spacious and clean. The pool areas was clean although the pool was pretty cold which was not too much of a problem when wishing to cool down. The resort itself doesn't have much to offer - apart from the bars and nightclubs and tacky tourist shops. The centre consists of a concrete arcade in the valley and no sign of a historical centre. The beaches are good, clean, but busy. Best advice would be to rent a car and explore the island which has an awful lot more to offer than any of the tourist resorts. The clubs in the centre were pumping out music until the early hours, can't imagine what it is like in the busy season! The whole holiday was saved by getting out and about and the glorious weather.
