Visited on a beautiful warm Saturday afternoon. Lovely drive & easily found just off the Helmsley road.
Steep, narrow road down to the car park but nothing too scary.
Car park is very small & charges £4 but take your ticket stub into the reception/shop and they give you the £4 back when you purchase an entry ticket.
We paid £18 for 2 adults & 2 children (ages 5 & 8) the dog got free entry! but we signed up for English Heritage membership & got our £18 refunded right away.
Staff were absolutely lovely & very helpful & informative.
The Abbey ruins cover a good sized area, plenty of places to explore & hide.
Lots of boards explaining what you were looking at & free audio tours are available.
Plenty of places to have your picnic although there is a cafe in the reception area but I can't comment as we didn't use it, or you could drive 10 minutes to Helmsley which is a typical market town, small & beautiful with delicious fish & chips and ice creams to be had!
I would recommend Rievaulx to anyone with small children, we loved it.
