We spent a lovely few days at the Eastfield Lodge in Leyburn with Mike and Paula. A lot of time was spent on the nearby Wensleydale Railway which happened to be in steam that month. We also visited Hawes using the vintage bus service (Tuesdays and Sundays) which picked up in the market Square just up the road. Not to be missed is a trip to the Forbidden Corner a few miles down the road, but do not take small children (under about 6) because it can be quite spooky underground with lifelike models and no quick exit. For older kids like us, take comfortable shoes, and plenty of film for the camera! It was awesome!! Leyburn is a bustling village with a market on Fridays(take care not to park in the market place on Thursday night and risk being clamped). Several nice restaurants including Italian, Indian and Chinese, and pubs serving good fare as well. Last but not least the local beer. Black Sheep on draught is our latest favourite tipple. They make it just down the road in Masham, and you can tour the brewery!(we're saving that for next time!)

My girlfriend and I recently spent two nights at Eastfield Lodge and found everything to be perfect. From the welcome we received from the owners, to the beautiful room, to the first-rate breakfast included in the price, we couldn't have asked for more. A perfect B&B in the perfect place for a break.

we were on a coast to coast holiday with hf hols who booked us into a gem of a guest house , immaculate large rooms , superb breakfasts and charming friendly hosts who made our sadly short stay very memorable ! this is truly a bistro hotel in our estimation and we will visit again and recommend to all our friends.

We stopped at the Eastfield lodge for two nights in late July and were delighted with the whole experience.
The owners Mike and Paula were genuinely friendly and always had time for a chat around our plans for the day, or to recommend eating & drinking options in the town. After confirming that we hadn't booked an evening meal on the first night, Mike happily booked their recommended choice (The Sandpiper just a few yards up the road which served us good honest food). The fact that they both take the trouble to remember and use first names makes the whole experience even more personal.
The Eastfield is on the main road into Leyburn (although we had no issues with traffic noise) and is literally a two minute walk into the centre. Even better is the fact that it's downhill back to the Lodge after a few sherbets in the local hostelries (The Bolton Arms being our favourite).
We were in the attic room (7) which wasn't the biggest room in the building but had character and was plenty big enough for our needs with a nice view across to the church and up into town.
The ensuite bathroom was practically brand new and spotlessly clean as was the room and the building in general.
The breakfasts were top class with cereals, fresh fruit or yogurts to start followed by any number of eggs and/or full english combinations. Our requests for differing options were always happily accepted by the staff and a veetarian option was provided without fuss for my wife.
There's a stack of local info and accompanying maps for guests to use in the entrance hall (with even the local weather detail printed daily) and a fridge to chill your own wine or drink of choice which Mike & Paula positively encourage.
Indeed wine glasses & a corkscrew are provided in the rooms as are a good quantity of coffee & tea bags (No economy B&B rations here).
In summary, the staff, food and rooms in the Eastfield Lodge are all top class and combine to provide a real template for what B&B's should be like. Indeed my only criticism was the fact the Mike was spotted by the wife both hoovering and cooking, settng what for me could be a dangerous precident upon our return home!

  • Liked — A superb and sincere personal touch that's second to none in our experience.
  • Disliked — Should the man of the house be seen hoovering and cooking in public!!!!

We have just returned from a 7 day stay at the Eastfield lodge hotel Layburn. Wanted a week away to relax and having stayed at Eastfield lodge hotel thats exactly what me and my wife did.The owners Keith and Janet were wonderful very welcoming. The rooms were large and spotless king size bed ,also very well furnished, the en suite facilities were also excellent. The hotel is only 200-300yards walk to the market square, which has lots of shops and restaurants, and there are 3 or so pubs there also. A good spot to spend the evenings as we did ,and out in the car during the day to explore the lots of different attractions around the area.Breakfast was delicious all local produce and plenty on your plate .you have the choice of what you want. Fresh melon ,pineapple and yoghurt ,cereals fresh juices, to start before your cooked breakfast, truly a wonderful stay. A wonderful hotel which is very affordable, very well run ,and we will both be returning in the future , top marks .
