I have never in my life experienced such opulence and luxury in a hotel stay. We arrived in mid-July. The staff not only meets but anticipates your every need. We got a bottle of champagne & a bowl of “A” quality fruit when we arrived. They furnished us with a beautiful and aromatic bouquet of roses, and a second one on our last day. We stayed in Les Amorouses, which is the biggest and most beautiful, clean, ornate, and about 20 other positive adjectives. Breakfast is a little simplified, but very high quality, and supremely enjoyable. We were given bicycles to ride through the nearby villages. You can also taste wine in the cellars, where they have some outstanding, though extremely pricey wines. If you stay here, you absolutely will need a rental car. The hotel is a little pricey, but is very romantic, scenic, and elegant…worth the price for a few nights’ stay.

“Amazing hotel”

Chateau Hotel Andre Ziltener

20 Sep 2007

An amazing chateau hotel in the tiny village of Chambolle-Musigny. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful from the moment we arrived, even coming out to welcome us as we pulled up outside. The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble, from breakfast in our room before we went out for the day to restaurant bookings, taxis and directions.

Our room - Echezeaux - was beautiful and the bed extremely comfortable.

The breakfast was fairly basic; fresh juice, croissants, fruit and coffee but it was nicely done. We had lunch out on the terrace which was a selection of typical Burgundian fare and was delicious.

We did a tasting in the hotel's cave which was great fun and very informative. The lady doing the tasting was extremely knowledgeable and didn't feel under any pressure to purchase - although we did!

I can't recommend this hotel highly enough. We stayed for 3 nights, and although the rooms are pricey it was worth it.

The major question about this idyllic small hotel is its location. If you are interested in wine, please note that the hotel is closer to Dijon than to Beaune, the hub of the Burgundy wine trade. However, the commune of Chambolle Musigny where the hotel sits boasts some of the greatest vineyards on the planet. That's why, I would think, one comes here. I do not think it is a convenient travel stop between Paris and the south of France. One comes to Chambolle to be in Chambolle!
The facilities of the hotel are excellent, although I was put off by the touristy wine cellar and the push to sell some wine (fairly ordinary compared to producers down the street). I would skip this diversion and just enjoy the hotel. We stayed in the Les Charmes room, while friends of ours were in the Les Amoureuses room. See the attached photos. We enjoyed our room. It was quite spacious, but the bed is not king-sized. The bedroom is bright yellow--a counterpoint to the dreary weather we had. We never needed air conditioning in view of the cool temperature. Thus I am not sure the hotel provides it. Please check on that if it is important to you. From the sitting room area there is access to the outdoor patio, which looked a little sad on the rainy /overcast days. Breakfast was taken in the dining room or delivered to one's room; it was the usual continental assortment. It appeared that one had to take breakfast at the hotel or skip it, as there was little competition near-by. Of course, one can get into one's car and drive off, as one must for dinner. With the help of the hotel staff, we reserved tables for dinner at Chez Guy and at Castel des Tres Girard. Before going, I thought I would prefer the latter, but my hunch was wrong. Chez Guy had better food and better service. The service at Tres Girard was just awful! Both have excellent wine lists.
With the exception of the push to sell wine (note that it is not permitted to carry wine onto a plane, it is risky to put wine in your checked luggage, and it costs over 100 euros to ship a case home, where you need a permit to receive it), I found the staff to be first-rate, both friendly and informative.
In sum, if you wish to stay in the Cote des Nuits near the great vineyards of Gevrey Chambertin, Morey St. Denis, Chambolle Musigny, and Vosne Romanee, this is the best.

We had a nice stay at this small hotel outside Dijon in Burgundy wine country. The hotel is quite small being a converted Chateau and winery. The rooms were quite well appointed and comfortable. The staff was excellent and helpful with everything.

There was not much to do in the town, so I would recommend having a car so you can travel around. We took the train from Paris and a taxi from the Dijon station. That and a trip into the nearby Beaune and cost over $300 in cab fairs.

We went into Beaune where they have a market on Saturdays. It was great fun and there are also plenty of shops to see. The popular thing to do is to take a wine tour, but we prefered to travel on our own.

They have a wine tasting in the hotel. They have some great wines but rather expensive if you convert from francs to dollars. A case with shipping would be over $1000. I was surprised that they did not treat guests to a complementary bottle of wine with the room since it would be a small cost on the overall room bill.

“Country Luxury in Burgundy”

My wife and I and another couple stayed at this beautiful country inn last week while travelling from the South of France up to Paris. We decided to take the train to Dijon, and do some touring in the wine region of Burgundy. We took a taxi from the Dijon station about 20-30 minutes outside to Chambolle-Musigny, a very small and lovely village in the heart of Burgundy, surrounded bu other small little wine towns. Since mid-April is just a little early in the tourist season calendar, the Inn was very quiet. We were greeted by the Executive Director, Mme. Doris Schwarz, who knew exactly who we were. She had already made us a dinner reservation in the village since the Inn does not have a full restaurant and since we arrived at 8 PM, she prodded us out the door to make a 8:30 pm reservation. We walked for 10 minutes down a small country road to a lovely little restaurant, and had one of the best meals of the entire trip to France, with some amazing local wines as accompaniment. The next day we woke up to a fantastic breakfast in the main dining room, and then did some wine touring, visiting a couple of chateaux, and then returned to the Chateau Ziltener for a wine tasting from their abundant cellars. They organized everything, and it was really nice, albeit a bit rushed, since we had to catch a 2 PM train in Dijon. But they were fully aware of our entire schedule, and arranged everything around it, including a luncheon on their terrace before we left for the train station.
There are only 10 rooms and the one we had (Romance-Conti) as well as our friends' room were beautiful, spacious and nicely decorated. We paid about 200 Euros and felt it was worth it. Anyone wishing to travel through wine country is encouraged to check this place out! Plus, with the TGV-direct train between Dijon and Paris (Gare de Lyon), it's only 1 hour and 40 minutes train ride, so also very doable as a side trip from Paris.
