I visit Alvor every year with my husband and our married friends and we're young and like to have fun. We are never disappointed with the weather in Alvor and the locals always recognise us and we love all our regular local haunts.
Last year we were thrilled when we saw a new bar on the strip called Freddies it was quite good but never very busy.
So this year we returned and great to see some new developments going up but let down by Freddies.......I don't understand why all the reviews are so positive and raving on about the ownersand staff being so friendly.
My husband went in to look around as there was a pool table this year and my girlfriend and I sat outside....all the staff are different from last year and we waited ages for a drink...we didn't meet Katie(as mentioned in reviews) but whatever staff?owneres they had on that night were not friendly at all!!!!
The boys had one game of pool but soon gave up...you can't hear the music in there at all. It is drowned out by the Sports bar next door and Stars across the road.
How can you compete with that?
Sports is for the kids but full of fun and energy and Stars was by far our favourite place to go. Miguel is great and never forgets a face or a name and his new staff are so on the ball, always with a smile and very efficient.Lovely young girl behind the bar and young guy waiting tables. The barman also plays there with his band and was absolutely fantastic.
We were not given a warm reception at the Freddies bar in fact we called it Feddies as they all look so fed up.
Thought I would put this review on as I always use Trip Advisor as we frequently travel and it is very helpful. But I do feel a true picture should be painted.
Places to go in Alvor for 20 something coulpes is Stars, Mourisco , Borala or Jewels for a bit of mad karaoke.
On the whole we find Alvor gets quiter each year but we do keep going back.
Looking forward to the new developments next year. Charlotte 28yrs.
