Having visited a number of apartments in Stalis including this one we were surprised that it appears vistors either love or hate these apartments. We found them somewhere in between. Firstly lets explode a few of the negative myths, for one the criticism of the staff speaking poor English is unfair as they put a notice in each room acknowledging their English is not great and request visitors to be patient when conversing. Also the place is not cockroach infested, in fact we found it spotlessly clean, one abiding memory of the place was two ladies spending hour after hour in the small laundry room in stifling heat cleaning sheets and towels. The rooms are adequate although we found the lighting was not the best. The location is fantastic you can eat and drink in a large variety of restaraunts and bars, hire a car, exchange money, visit the beach, swim, shop for food, clothes and gifts, visit a Doctor and book a trip without having to walk more that 200 yards, plus most of the apartments are set back from the beach road so you do not have much noise. But.. whilst the price of a stay is reasonable there is something very Sergeant Bilko like about the way you have to pay for extras once there. Air con and safes were much more expensive than other Stalis apts we have stayed, you had to pay for a sunbed by the pool something we have never exerienced as residents anywhere in Europe and although we did not need to do so it would not surprise us if the reviewer who had to pay for toilet roll is correct. There was also an element of them and us i.e. our experience was that those who spent each day and night in the apartments were treat as treasured friends by the staff, if you chose like us to go out your were not treated rudely but I would say more cordially e.g. first day we were there we spent at the pool, I go to the bar with my 10 year old son to buy some drinks and am greeted warmly by the barman who serves us joking with my lad about whether my beer is for him. He then came over with a photo album showing pictures of the barbeque they do and tries selling it to us - which was fair enough. We didn't go to the barbeque and tended to eat and drink out and spend days at the beach because of its close proximety and also because the pool is so sheltered it was simply too hot to stay there too long. Fast forward a week later, same scenario, this time I get an unsmiling nod of greeting, half way pouring out our drinks a guest who never seemed to leave the apartments came to the bar, ths barman started chatting to him and started getting his order leaving ours, when we eventually got our drinks I received a polite thank you but this time my son was ignored. on our last day a farewell staff committee came to the coach to se the guests off, except it was not for us its for some more apartment dwellers, one of the staff even carried their cases, despite the fact they had twin sons aged about 18 whilst a group of middle aged ladies struggled to the road with theirs. Finally from experience the barman staying at the bar till the last person goes to bed goes on throughout Greece it is not peculiar to these apartments, the people have a seven month window to make money and will obviously work every moment they can to make enough to see them through the winter, they don't do it because they are your best mate!
Rooms with view of the mountains and not ground floor are best
