Doonbeg Lodge is simply stunning. It did help that we were there for the hottest weekend Ireland has seen in a long time! The accommodation and amenities are exactly as you see on the website, if not better. We visited Doonbeg Lodge to attend a wedding and stayed for 3 nights. Having originally booked into the main lodge in a deluxe room, we moved our booking to a 4 bed ‘house’ so that we could be with our friends, which made more sense. It not only brought the cost of our stay down considerably, it also was great fun. The house – The Links Cottages - consists of 4 double/twin rooms, all with very large ensuite. Think of it as having 4 spacious hotel rooms within a home, which also has a large living area, fully equipped kitchen and dining area. The Links Cottages are a 10 minute walk from the lodge, and are well serviced by a wonderful team of staff who will collect and return you to where ever you need to be.
We ate in the club house on the first night, excellent service, good menu, nice atmosphere. We then used the wedding marquee for the remainder of the stay.
Other friends sampled the golf and spa. We were happy to wander along the beach after a generous lie on in the comfiest beds I have ever slept in. We also were able to do some sight seeing, around 40 mins away.
My only drawback was there was no pool, which is not the end of the world as there other facilities, sauna, steam room, whirlpool etc.
I can honestly say this resort is certainly the best we have ever stayed in, certainly in Ireland and would be on a par with our favourites in Hong Kong and Dubai. My only regret is that we did not visit sooner - we were married in another hotel last October and it's just a pity I can't redo my event all over again! It is evident to see the money being invested in the hotel, services, amenities and staff.
My compliments to Joe Russell and all the wonderful staff.
