“great rest”

My husband and I just got back yesterday 6/4/08. When we arrived after a delay because of snow at East Mids we went to reception and our hearts sank as it looked dated, BUT, the receptionist was really nice and sent us to a room on same level as them which we had asked for. Got to room and it was large, bedroom, fitted wardrobes with hangers, enough. Good size bathroom, small kitchen area complete with microwave, lounge area and good size balcony. It was nice and clean and comfortable. We stayed half board and the food was very good, well cooked and well set out with a good choice, first time we have never looked at the food in hotel and not decided to eat out once or twice and it was easy to sort a bit of lunch for yourself havin kitchen and good suply of supermarkets. Good pool areas and beaches close by. Plenty of walks without always covering same roads. Dont bother with market, we went as there was police raid on stalls. If you want a rest its a good place to go, barman is reallly nice and shows good and from what we saw kids club was well run. We had good 2 weeks and would go again, wished could have stayed longer as came back to snow!

“Exacltly what we expected”

Sun Park Apartments

If you read ALL the reviews on trip advisor AND the hotel's own web site, then nothing should come as a shock about Sun Park. We stayed one week march 27th- april 3rd 08, my husband, two girls (8yrs and 6yrs) and myself. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment and opted for self-catering, having read the reviews!! The room we were allocated was 402- PERFECT! Very quiet and very cool. Everything you could want, but the bathroom was a little tired and could 've done with a lick of paint. 4 bath towels were provided, but were absolutely tiny. We used the pool area on the first day for about 10 mins- ABSO FREEZING! Didn't venture near any of the pools or any of the amenities atall for the rest of the stay. That shouldn't sound negative as it was exactly what we wanted- a clean, quiet and incredibly cheap place to sleep and shower. Yes the place is full of Germans who keep themselves to themselves and are quiet and early to bed- would far rather that than a bunch of British lager louts. We would return each night at about 11pm and the whole complex was in darkness and silence!!
Every morning, we'd have a cup of coffee in bed and then walk down to Marina Rubicon (approx 20mins) along the coastal path, where we'd enjoy a massive breakfast at Lani's snack bar- full english or baguettes, hotdogs, pizzas, salads etc- huge portions and as ever with Spain, the staff so lovely with the children! That would set us up for the day and then we'd hit the beach (Playa Dorada), beautiful weather, cloudless skies, white sands and clear, safe, clean sea (albeit cold, but it was March)! We'd hire 2 sunbeds (5 euros) and stay for the entire day til about 6pm- BLISS!
Each evening we'd walk down to the restaurants and shops. Now, I'd taken loads of smart evening wear and high strappy sandals, but the walk was a good 20-30mins, we'd hired a car but my husband and I enjoy wine with our meal so didn't take the car in at night. I ended up buying trainers and wearing rolled -up jeans every night! It really didn't matter, but I could've saved on all that packing!
The restaurants are all fine, nothing fantastic, but cater for all, especially kids. We enjoyed Verdara on the seafront, also Lani's steak house on the marina. Avoid at all costs the stunning looking Casa Pedro, near the ferry port- honestly thought we were eatind dog food!!
This was our third trip to Lanzarote, last year we stayed in the 5 star Princess Yaiza, which was fab, but if you're looking for self-catering and love the beach rather than the pool, then I would recommend Sun Park.
We got back late last night and are contemplating 2 weeks next mar/april, such a treat after a long 6 months of cold winter to fly and stay cheaply to a beautiful climate, swim in the sea and eat out every night. Mind you, I've put half a stone on- let the diet commence before Majorca in July!

2 week self catering stay, both aged 46.ACCOM,basic but clean, maid service regular and queitly went about their buisness.ROOMS.We stayed in563,which was nice and quiet, lost the sun at 1 in the afternoon but peacefull. Rooms above the reception got the sun until 8 at night, but entertainment and the road made it noisey.SHOPS."Netto is less than 5 min walk away, but take a rucksack as the"Spar"is well woth the 15 min walk as it has loads of variety & is much cheaper.BEACHES.3 to choose from, small, clean&very safe(7 euros for 2 beds& parasol)EATING OUT.try"jumbo" (chinese) & "grill"(beefeater style) SWIMMING POOLS.FREEZING!!!!!4 to choose from,6 if u use sister hotel pools of sun beach&sun royal. Miantanace staff work like the Painters on the "Fourth Road Bridge",all totally pointless!!!!! I swim a mile everyday and could just about cope. However,we both lost count of the amount of parents that brought excited "giggley" kids down to the pool, only to see them leave after 20 min when they all thought they would have been set for the day. Having stayed at various "Canary"complexes,if it wasnt for the Pool, this would have merited a 10 out of 10.3/4 of complex occupied by GERMANS-entrtainment is all geared up for them, but dont let it put u off. Sort the POOLS out!!!!!! would I go back, recommend to others? YES.

“Great for the money”

Sun Park Apartments

This was our 6th time at Sun Park, tho the last time was 7 years ago and the place is still just as good and extremely good value for money. We went with mytravel on-line and you can opt out of the airport transfers for £20 discount each, which allowed us to hire a car for 5 people for the whole week for the same money! We didn't really use it much except to / from the airport but it was nice to have. We had apts 501 and 502 on the ground floor (overlooking the only heated pool) which were basic but clean and comfortable. A lot of Europeans are there on all-inclusive, tho we were self-catering. You can have a buffet breakfast for 6Eur (Adults) or 3Eur (Children). You can also upgrade at reception to all-inclusive for 26Eur (Adults) or 13Eur (Children) per day. We ate breakfast and lunch in the apt and went out to a different sea-front restaurant every evening. This cost approx 20Eur per person for 2 courses and drinks, so it's better value on all inclusive but we'd have gone stir crazy staying in all the time.

The German-run children’s animation called 1-2-Fly (enie, zwei, fly) operated everyday and played loud intrusive music at 10am everyday by the heated pool with regular further interruptions at 12pm and 3pm. We didn’t go to any of the evening entertainment, which didn’t seem very well attended.

The on-site supermarket has been shut for refurb since Sept 07 and showed no signs of opening but there’s a very good Netto about 100yrds south of the hotel. You can walk west into town along the main rd or via the coast path in 10mins else you can go to the new marina to the east along the coast path. A taxi back costs 5Eur.

The apt grounds and pool area are really lovely and well kept and there’s plenty of sun beds. It never gets too crowded by the pool. We went to Papagayo beaches on 2 days, which are a short drive (turn L out of hotel, then R and R again at roundabout along 5 mile dirt track). There’s a left turn just before the first beach and you’ll find a car park at the end on the top by the cafes: there are nice beaches on both sides. Playa Dorada is 200yds south of the hotel and nice but crowded.

All in all it’s a great place for the money: if you expect five stars then and go and pay £800 a day to stay in the Princess Yaisa down the road….incidentally it’s well worth a visit (some friends used the pool there everyday)!

This is the third time we have stayed in the Sun Park apartments, our fourth time in Playa Blanca, and have even brought relatives with us this time.
Although basic, it is ideal for people who just want a relaxing holiday. The accomdation was fine and the staff very helpful.
We did not eat in the restaurant very often, once or twice for breakfast, as we prefer to sample the various restaurants in the resort. Lani's in the marina was a favourite, particularly with the children as they could play quite safely and look at the fish in the marina.
The entertainment in the Sun Park was poor, especially in the evening. During our visit, there were lots of Spanish visitors and these were primarily catered for.
Playa Blanca itself is a beautiful place, ideal for young families and for people who want to relax, like myself. The beach is beautiful and safe, even in the evening. There is a beautiful promenage to walk along, which leads to the harbour and passes plenty of restaurants and shops.
A very pleasing resort and would recomend it to anyone.
