Just back from 2 weeks at Sun Park, having only booked the week prior. All of our requirements were met and our expectations surpassed. We are a family with 2 young kids (3 & 1) with another baby due in July. We just wanted a last minute break, not breaking the bank, not far from the beach, child friendly and ground floor accomodation. We booked an a self-catering basis.

Hotel -Very basic but very, very clean. The army of cleaners & gardeners never stop but are unobtrusive. Linen and towels replaced 5 days out of 7.

Food - We found both the local Netto and the Spar in town to be quite expensive and usually either ate out or in the hotel restaurant. Hotel buffet was good value, we could have 3 courses for the price of a main in town and both quality and variety were very good. In hindsight, All inclusive would have been worth considering

Pools - I note earlier comments re the temperature of the pool. By late April, the temperature was absolutely fine and all 4 pools were being well used. In particular, we made good use of the children's pool. Also, there were no issues in getting loungers and everyone seemed to abide with the 'no reservato' signs.

Children's Entertainment -This was the real winner for us. We had been told at the time of booking that this did not start till May (with Thomson's perhaps) but the German tour operator 1-2-Fly ran an active children's club twice a day (10-12 & 3-5) as well as a mini-disco (8-8.30pm). This was FREE and their staff made a real effort to speak (very good) English. The activities were always interesting (making t-shirts, pirate hats, painting stones). I cannot praise the 1-2-Fly team enough.

Adult Entertainment - Provided by the same 1-2-Fly team and was good fun, mainly involving dancing and miming to hit songs.

Beach - A safe, 15 min walk (quicker if you donlt have two under 4's!!) to Playa Dorada Beach. Good sand and shelving.

Resort - Reaaly nice, low rise resort. Great, flat promenade for walking and ideal for families with young children in buggies, the elderly or disabled.

Family of 4 aged 36/35/8/3Returned from Lanzarote-Playa Blanca on Thursday.(10/04/08)
We spent 7 nights in the Sun Park after only having booked it 2 days before we left.
Arrived at reception a little disappointed with décor. Very dated and in desperate need of upgrading, however check -in went smoothly.
Rooms the same, but I have to say as expected.
I did make comments on the customer questionnaire.
BUT very clean. Nice freshly laundered shower curtain, fresh towels 5 days out of 7. And no Cockroaches or ants in sight, a pleasant experience after previous trips to the Canaries. We were half board, Although we sampled the all-inclusive wine and beer at the table(We had to pay for it!) It was disgusting!
Food was typical of this type of accom. okay a fair degree of choice but basic ingredients. Breakfast was pretty good. Coffee dreadful though. YUK.
We did eat out twice, both from guidebook recommendation's:
Brisa Marina - EXCELLENT
Almacen de la sal - AWFUL, will see if I can leave separate review.
I am unfortunate to find local enthusiasm to holidaymakers quite poor!
Grounds were beautiful and well kept, a constant battle against the spring breezes knocking off leaves.
Swimming pool was freezing, so we went to the sister hotel next door and used their pool for most of the time, as theirs was heated. Play park fair. Entertainment provided by a German company,(I assume occupancy is greater with German holidaymakers). They spoke fantastic English and were lively and enthusiastic. Despite this we only used the kids club once as We spent most of the day in next doors pool, and I felt that they weren't keeping an eye on my 3 year old. I stayed with them for face painting, and all the kids were getting bored waiting, and I can't help but feel the children who spoke German had the upper edge and pushed in the queue somewhat resulting in my young one just running away! Kids didn't enjoy mini disco, didn't feel included as the songs 99% German, I tried to encourage them, but they wouldn't, maybe they would of if there were a few more British buddies! I will set about teaching them German!! Their evening program was full of energy though. Only stayed twice, but my youngest adored watching the singing and dancing.
Nice and quite in the evening after one drink in the bar, or returning from the harbour, how very pleasant.
Television in room is coin operated, but easy to use, also coin operated internet access in reception.
No Shop, seems to have been closed since last Autumn, and doesn't look like it will ever open again!
Weather fantastic, kids had great time and I did certainly warm my bones!
Yes I would go again.

My husband and I just got back yesterday 6/4/08. When we arrived after a delay because of snow at East Mids we went to reception and our hearts sank as it looked dated, BUT, the receptionist was really nice and sent us to a room on same level as them which we had asked for. Got to room and it was large, bedroom, fitted wardrobes with hangers, enough. Good size bathroom, small kitchen area complete with microwave, lounge area and good size balcony. It was nice and clean and comfortable. We stayed half board and the food was very good, well cooked and well set out with a good choice, first time we have never looked at the food in hotel and not decided to eat out once or twice and it was easy to sort a bit of lunch for yourself havin kitchen and good suply of supermarkets. Good pool areas and beaches close by. Plenty of walks without always covering same roads. Dont bother with market, we went as there was police raid on stalls. If you want a rest its a good place to go, barman is reallly nice and shows good and from what we saw kids club was well run. We had good 2 weeks and would go again, wished could have stayed longer as came back to snow!

“Exacltly what we expected”

Sun Park Apartments

If you read ALL the reviews on trip advisor AND the hotel's own web site, then nothing should come as a shock about Sun Park. We stayed one week march 27th- april 3rd 08, my husband, two girls (8yrs and 6yrs) and myself. We stayed in a one bedroom apartment and opted for self-catering, having read the reviews!! The room we were allocated was 402- PERFECT! Very quiet and very cool. Everything you could want, but the bathroom was a little tired and could 've done with a lick of paint. 4 bath towels were provided, but were absolutely tiny. We used the pool area on the first day for about 10 mins- ABSO FREEZING! Didn't venture near any of the pools or any of the amenities atall for the rest of the stay. That shouldn't sound negative as it was exactly what we wanted- a clean, quiet and incredibly cheap place to sleep and shower. Yes the place is full of Germans who keep themselves to themselves and are quiet and early to bed- would far rather that than a bunch of British lager louts. We would return each night at about 11pm and the whole complex was in darkness and silence!!
Every morning, we'd have a cup of coffee in bed and then walk down to Marina Rubicon (approx 20mins) along the coastal path, where we'd enjoy a massive breakfast at Lani's snack bar- full english or baguettes, hotdogs, pizzas, salads etc- huge portions and as ever with Spain, the staff so lovely with the children! That would set us up for the day and then we'd hit the beach (Playa Dorada), beautiful weather, cloudless skies, white sands and clear, safe, clean sea (albeit cold, but it was March)! We'd hire 2 sunbeds (5 euros) and stay for the entire day til about 6pm- BLISS!
Each evening we'd walk down to the restaurants and shops. Now, I'd taken loads of smart evening wear and high strappy sandals, but the walk was a good 20-30mins, we'd hired a car but my husband and I enjoy wine with our meal so didn't take the car in at night. I ended up buying trainers and wearing rolled -up jeans every night! It really didn't matter, but I could've saved on all that packing!
The restaurants are all fine, nothing fantastic, but cater for all, especially kids. We enjoyed Verdara on the seafront, also Lani's steak house on the marina. Avoid at all costs the stunning looking Casa Pedro, near the ferry port- honestly thought we were eatind dog food!!
This was our third trip to Lanzarote, last year we stayed in the 5 star Princess Yaiza, which was fab, but if you're looking for self-catering and love the beach rather than the pool, then I would recommend Sun Park.
We got back late last night and are contemplating 2 weeks next mar/april, such a treat after a long 6 months of cold winter to fly and stay cheaply to a beautiful climate, swim in the sea and eat out every night. Mind you, I've put half a stone on- let the diet commence before Majorca in July!

2 week self catering stay, both aged 46.ACCOM,basic but clean, maid service regular and queitly went about their buisness.ROOMS.We stayed in563,which was nice and quiet, lost the sun at 1 in the afternoon but peacefull. Rooms above the reception got the sun until 8 at night, but entertainment and the road made it noisey.SHOPS."Netto is less than 5 min walk away, but take a rucksack as the"Spar"is well woth the 15 min walk as it has loads of variety & is much cheaper.BEACHES.3 to choose from, small, clean&very safe(7 euros for 2 beds& parasol)EATING OUT.try"jumbo" (chinese) & "grill"(beefeater style) SWIMMING POOLS.FREEZING!!!!!4 to choose from,6 if u use sister hotel pools of sun beach&sun royal. Miantanace staff work like the Painters on the "Fourth Road Bridge",all totally pointless!!!!! I swim a mile everyday and could just about cope. However,we both lost count of the amount of parents that brought excited "giggley" kids down to the pool, only to see them leave after 20 min when they all thought they would have been set for the day. Having stayed at various "Canary"complexes,if it wasnt for the Pool, this would have merited a 10 out of 10.3/4 of complex occupied by GERMANS-entrtainment is all geared up for them, but dont let it put u off. Sort the POOLS out!!!!!! would I go back, recommend to others? YES.
