Oasis Timanfaya Golf Apartments

21 Jun 2008

I am sorry to say myself and my wife were very disappointed with this hotel, first night their I went onto the balcony I killed at least 3 cockroaches, the food was poor, entertainment was all for the Spanish, no air-condition in the dinning room or the entertainment room. The hotel was under manned not enough staff. Their is no choice of lagers or beers only the one. The waiter was very rude and served the Spanish first. Back to the entertainment it was very very poor for a hotel that was to be a 3 star. Why if you are on an all all-inclusive do the bar stop at 11pm and you are offered to pay for your drinks if it’s still open till 12.00, we were supposed to be on holiday. The poolside bar shuts at 6pm then you have to go into the entertainment room to queue for your drinks I don’t mind waiting, but in a room full of very noisy and rude Spanish people, with no air con, not very nice I can tell you. I don’t mind drinking from plastic cups by the pool side bar. but watching the so-called entertainment you were if lucky given a small glass, half full of beer and have full of froff, if you went back to the bar without your glass you were give a plastic cup not 3 star is it??

We booked our weeks stay with XL Holidays. Its about a four hour flight from Manchester with a 15- 20 minute transfer by taxi. The hotel is a 3 star, clean and tidy. The rooms are a good size. The kitchen equipment is limited for those wanting to go self catering. We went half board and found it to be really good value. The breakfasts were excellent and the evening meal always had something for those with picky eating requirements.
The hotel has evening entertainment, which we did not use as we were out most evenings. The nearest beach is about a steady 10 minute walk away but took some finding and to work out the short cuts etc. The town is a steady 15 minutes walk but well worth the effort.
There is a shop on site but found the local Spar cheaper, this is only about 5 minutes walk away but not obvious. ( willing to give any directions should you want to know )
Local buses are cheap and reliable ( one euro seems to be the average fare) Car hire is about 35 euros a day and the whole island is easily navigated in a full and busy day. The roads are excellent but sign posts are an adventure.
The rooms do have safes which cost 20 euros a week and the tv is limited to spanish/french and german programmes apart from sky euro sport.
We would recommend the beaches locally, they are clean and not too crowded although the wind can sometimes be abit strong along the coast. Be aware that the cooling breezes hide the true heat of the sun so always have you sun tan cream on especially on the children.
All in all a good value holiday at a hotel which lives up to its 3 stars, good food and clean. Who could ask for more on a weeks break?

i was looking foward to staying at this hotel, as it hadnt had many bad reviews. we happened to stay at the hotel when it was full of retired spanish. we waited an hour to be checked into the hotel and finally got to our room at about 8:30pm. the rooms are basic but large and comfortable. the balconies are ideal for sunbathing on.
the facilities around the hotel were very dated and needed replacing. the hotel gym was dire and none of the equipment worked.
the enterainment staff are fantastic and made every effort to get us involved in the activties. the nightly shows varied from poor to really good.
the food was good but repetative. the drinks were good except for the all inclusive cocktails which changed every night.
alot of the repairs were being done while we stayed in the hotel as well. such as the pool being resealed. which meant the pool was out of order for two days.
i did enjoy my holiday but i wouldnt go back again and i wouldnt pay the amount i did.

in my opinion .. you get what you pay for, and as the holiday was quite cheap i didn't expect anything great but we got by. i went with my boyfriend on the 20.03.08 and got back last night, the 27.03.08. The rooms were a nice size and the balcony was bigger than i expected. We went self catering. the things i could find fault with was the fact there was no toaster, kettle and literally 2 forks 2 knives etc so id advise take your own cutlery. One out of the two hobs we had were broken, but in all fairness the minute we told the guy at reception he sent someone up to fix it and it was done in an hour. Another thing i wasn't too impressed by was the fact you had to pay to use the sauna and jacuzzi. shouldn't that be included in the price you pay to stay there? The rooms are all really loud. the slightest movement makes the loudest noise. there was a family of 4 above us. single mum and 3 kids. constantly making noise late at night and early in the morning. sounded like they were dragging the furniture from room to room and running around the place. Also we had a few fag buts thrown down onto our balcony. of cause i cant blame the hotel for this but i should have put a complaint in. The hotel couldn't get any English channels but they managed to get German. The double bed turned out to be 2 single beds pushed together.they were quite hard but a friend of mine who i bumped into over there was staying in a 4star hotel literally a mile away and she said her bed was really hard to. The hotel overall was nice. close to a lot of shops, beach, the Aqua park and the hotel ran trips to markets for only 6Euros. I'd say that the hotel was probably more for parents and kids. the pool area is lovely. everyone joins in with each other. Same as there evening entertainment. they have the kids up dancing and having fun. I didn't go in there of an evening because i went out drinking and for food but when we occasionally poked our heads around to see. I have already recommended this hotel to my friends and family. theres so much to do in this area. we found we were hardly in the hotel anyway. We were able to sunbathe on our balcony too.

Well have just arrived back on the 25th, room very basic no kettle or pans etc but think we were just unlucky as room used to shower in before we left had everything !!, our room was cleaned 5 times in the week which was good, clean towels every other day. swimming pool was freezing cold but still needed to get towels on sunbeds early otherwise no hope of one all day !!, entertainment was awful even after a few drinks, needed a taxi to get into town (4 euros each way), found wonderful irish bar called 'Shamrock' music there was good,
Overall it was ok, but would much rather go to Tenerife, weather was good but its a very windy island and you most definately need a coat etc for the evenings, not the best part of the island i felt and hotel a little too far out for comfort.
