For the second time (in two years) I stayed at NH Sparrenhorst together with my mother, we really enjoyed our weekend (Saturday-Monday). Before reading this whole review please bear in mind that this is based on my own experiences as a leisure traveller and due to the fact that I am a student Hotelmanagement I would like to give an overview about the hotel and its services as clear as possible.
We checked in at Saturday the 31st of March 2012 and we were welcomed by a friendly receptionist who explained everything about the hotel (dinner, breakfast hrs...). Due to the Earth Hour there was a special movie evening organized at the theater of the hotel and there was a special movie menu foreseen at the restaurant (OINC). Our hotelroom was well-cleaned and smelled nice. Apart from the dated bathroom it was nice equipped (with excellent beds). Last year we mentioned that the towel rack was too small for letting dry two bath towels and that there were missing coathooks e.g. for bathrobes but to our regret they did not take it into consideration.
The fitness and relax center (swimming pool, sauna) were in good state of repair. After calling the reception they immediately switched on the sauna as mentioned at check-in. The water of the swimming pool was clean and warm. The first evening we enjoyed a surprise (4-courses) menu at OINC which was very delicious. There is a possibility to eat à la carte either (we did last year) and even then they serve mouth watering courses. To be honest this restaurant is the best restaurant I have ever visited in Benelux, France and Germany at hotels with the same rating. The breakfast room, which is situated near the restaurant, is nice furnished and decorated. You can eat as it were in the middle of the wood. The breakfast is a continental one including anti-ox with fresh fruit and vegetables. It gives you new and positive energy for the rest of the day.
At NH Sparrenhorst there is a possibility to hire bicycles. It is not expensive and they are really good. The hotel is situated in the wood and so surrounded by beautiful nature. It is a nice place to have a walk (near the hotel as well) or cycling trip with the free maps available at the reception. The receptionists are ready to help you finding the most proper/beautiful trip.
The second evening (Sunday) the restaurant was closed and were we obliged to have a dinner at the bar. It's a shame because it doesn't feel that comfortable to eat at a place you link with the lunch or tea-time. Due to the fact that it is a space with high ceilings it isn't a really pleasant room apart from the dimmed lights and candles. The design of OINC is much nicer. The staff members (same as in the restaurant) did a great job, explained everything about the menus and were really polite and friendly to talk with.
At check-out we mentioned that the hotel chain made a mistake by publishing the menu prices of the restaurant two euros cheaper than they are in reality. It's a pity that they did not change it after two weeks. They do understand that the guest's feedback is important but it seems to be that they leave it out of account. Further on I can let you know that some of the pictures at the NH website can maybe give you a wrong image about the hotel but it is a nice and modern hotel to stay, with good facilities/services and friendly staff members.
