I read the review of Roman Zaharov, looked at the homepage of the hotel and decided to stay there. It turned out to be a great choice. Only problem was that the bathroom door opened towards the inside and it was completely in the way to the toilet, so it was always difficult to manage to get there because of the door. And the shower was in a bad condition. It fell apart a few times, but we could fix it for the time of usage.
Other than that, everything was really fine.
The last day, I left a T-shirt on the bed, and the cleaning lady took it together with the sheets when changing. Small mistake. Hopefully, they will find it an send it home with our travel agency.
It was funny though, that on the website of the hotel, they have a panoramic picture of the hotel, where they left out the parking lot completely, so it looks like the hotel was absolutely on the shore. Roman included a picture where you can see the actual parking lot as well.
We spent a nice week in Crete with my boyfriend, and on the way back, he said that he was completely satisfied with the whole trip. Hotel, island, Santorini excursion, everything. It was a big compliment, as I chose and organised everything - with the help of TripAdvisor.
I also made a research by reading lots of forums on the internet, where people talk about Crete. They usually tell about there favourite places, and it is worth looking them up in Google Picture Search ang Google Map. This was how I got my ideas of where to got, what to visit.
We liked the beach at Malia. It is called bikini beach, but about one-third of the women are in monokini there. Perfect place for those, who want to get a nice tan everywhere, and for men, who want to watch nice women. :)
Vai is a bit far from Gouves, but a good target for one day. Beautiful beach with palm trees and on one side of the beach, you can see fish underwater, if you have a diving kit. You can buy it at the beach, but it's much more expensive there, than e.g. in a shop in Gouves. So, if you want to by a mask and a pipe, do it in advance.
If you have lot of earwax in your ear, go to a doctor, before your trip, and there, they clean it in 2 minutes, so you won't get the same trouble as I did. I went swimming with the mask and the pipe, and as the water went into my ear, it blocked my ear, and for the rest of the vacation, I had bad feelings in one of my ears and most of the time I could'nt hear really well. And of course, I didn't have the courage to go underwater with such an ear again, so I couldn't see more life under the water.
This is a problem you will never have, if you have your ear cleaned in advance.
Have a nice time in Gouves!
As Roman wrote nice review about PerlaCarRent as well, we wanted to get a car from them. They were not so friendly as I thought they would be, after his review. One of the daugthers was there and she didn't show any special kindness towards us. She just looked at her papers and counted how much it would cost for us. They only had two cars in, and both were very expensive. Around 50 euros per day. So we went on a little bit disappointed, to look for another place. We asked at several places and everywhere they wanted to get 50 euros per day. Then, finally we found Hello! car rent, where the lady said 25 for a day. So we stayed there and got a Hyunday Getz for 5 days.
