“Better than Expected”

Hotel Euro House Inn

I have to say that after reading all the mixed reviews I was a little concerned about staying at the Euro House Inn although for only 1 night. MY family and I had just finished a 2 week vacation of Venice, Rome, Malta and back to Rome for 1 night flying out the next morning. We arrived in Rome and I called the Euro House Inn and they immediately send there shuttle to pick us up at the airport. We had 5 suitcases 3 of which were large and we were thinking a rome taxi would be too small and around 50 euro. The shuttle was new and very large and we thought a deal at 25 euro for all of us. When we arrived at the hotel they could not have been more friendly. We had 2 gentlemen taking our luggage and 2 ladys checking us in. We arranged for the shuttle at 9:15 the next morning and it left right on time. They told us about a little restorante just down the street that had marvelous food and was family owned. If you stay in Rome then stay at the Euro House Inn the quiet neighbourhood will be most welcome. Not shady in the least. The snacks in the room are ok and bottle water & juices in the fridge. They did also take American Express without hesitation. Overall a good overnight stay. Don't know what all the bad reviews were about.

I booked this hotel online through Lonely Planet Exchange and paid my deposit using my credit card. The terms and conditions on my confirmation email stated that the balance of the room must be paid on arrival. I had booked to stay from Friday to Tuesday.

When I arrived the female receptionist was not at all welcoming. She asked for the room payment and I offered my credit card at which point she said I could only pay by cash. As I had not brought cash for the room with me, I explained that I had the credit card to pay. I noticed a credit card machine was behind the reception desk which suggested that they accept credit cards.

She booked me in, took my passport and handed me the room key. A couple of hours later (on my way out) I spoke to the male receptionist about the cash/credit card situation and he too was adamant that they only accept cash, despite the machine being available to accept credit cards! He told me I could pay on Monday but I explained that the situation would be the same.

I was turfed out of my room by late morning on a daily basis as they insisted on cleaning it , despite the room being clean already.

I offered to store my friend's cases in my room as they were leaving on Monday evening and my hotel was 2 minutes walk from their airport shuttle. The male receptionist was rude to them and would not allow them to store their bags in my room. As far as I was concerned, it was my choice as I was paying for the room.

When I went to the reception desk on the Monday evening to settle up before my departure the following morning, the female receptionist tried again to demand cash. She pulled out terms and conditions that were over 2 years old and from another website. The manager/owner was called in and he was both rude and aggressive to me and my friend who had accompanied me to sort the payment out. The female receptionist told me that they had changed banks and the machine didn't work in February! The manager/owner could not offer an explanation as to why I could reserve online but not pay by credit card, nor could he explain why his terms and conditions varied on different websites. This confrontation went on for more than 20 minutes!

Eventually he relented and put my card through the machine - the same machine that was apparently out of order! He also advertises as a bed and breakfast but there are no catering facilities on site! Alarm bells have definitely been ringing as he wants all his transactions to be in cash, he didn't provide me with a receipt (only the credit card chit) and the hotel has two different names .

Unfortunately I will not be returning to this hotel despite the clean rooms and reasonable rates. I have visited Rome regularly for 3 years and have never experienced such terrible service. It is not characteristic of Italians.

We had booked a night here before leaving on an early flight the next morning. That changed when we pulled into the hotel after a long drive. The area surrounding the hotel is very shady looking, not appealing at all. The feeling you get is that once your at the hotel you wouldn't want to go out again. There really isn't anywhere to go around there anyway, except to the airport to catch your flight. Anyway, I enter the property, my wife next to me with a suitcase on her lap, and my new in-laws in the back surrounded by luggage. When we began pulling forward we were approached by a car coming toward us. The woman driving told us, in a very stern voice, that we needed to turn around and enter the other driveway. We had entered through the exit driveway by accident. I later saw the small sign with a red circle and white line across it up high on the wall in front next to the driveway. I thanked her for telling me what I was just realizing but before I could even react she again, even louder and more impatient, told us to back up NOW! I told her I was going to turn around...I couldn't see out the back with all of the luggage packed in. When I bagan to go forward, she slammed her car into reverse, and dangerously cut in front of our car. In a very loud threatening way this time, she screamed that she was the manager and that she demands we back up, what we were doing was very unsafe. In reality, what was unsafe was backing out onto this busy road. The hotel property was empty...maybe three cars parked in the whole lot, and no moving traffic there at the time, other than her. There was plenty of room to safely turn around. Besides, the parking space I was going to pull into was right in front of us when she encountered us with her car. The obvious thing was to let us park and tell us to pull in the other driveway from now on. We were absolutely dumbfound with how she had just yelled at us. My in-laws, very soft spoken people in their seventies, didn't know how to respond...they wondered if we should still stay there. It was getting late and we didn't know where else to go so I suggested we get to our rooms and try and relax. I managed to do what she wanted...I backed out onto the road, drove to the other side of the building, and entered the other driveway. During the check in, the same woman, Fabiola Cianfrocca is her name, said something from her desk to the gentlemen helping us. I went over and asked her to stay out of my affairs, that she should be ashamed of herself for the way she had just spoken to my family. She got up pointing her finger telling me that I started it, which I'm guessing was all she could think of saying...it was a grossly inaccurate response. All of her responses were completely uncalled for. The whole ten minute experience was simply shocking. Since I could tell that the rest of my family was very uneasy about giving them our business anyway, I grabbed our passports back, thanked the gentlemen helping us, and walked out calling her ugly...the only angry thing I knew how to say in Italian.

We got into the car, punched Rome airport hotels into our GPS, and 15 minutes later were checking into the Hilton Garden Hotel, the cheaper of the two Hiltons at FCO airport. The cost was not much more than the Euro House Inn at all. It was much safer, and the airport runs a free shuttle service that stops right in front of the Hilton Garden...and they have a restaurant right in the hotel. We made out so much better in the end...after a very negative experience our stay at the Hilton was very comfortable. And we came home with a pretty humorous story for everyone. What was very upsetting and uncomforable at the time, has been easier to laugh about later.

Trust me, other than Fabiola, the very rude and mean general manager, there still is nothing about the Euro House Inn worth going for. Avoid it and go with any other options you have for accommodations near the airport. There are others better in the area to choose...again the Hilton Garden Hotel being a very reasonable alternative.

“Great hotel”

Hotel Euro House Inn

My husband & I recently had 2 stays at the Euro House Inn Aug & Sept)near Fiumicino Airport, Rome. We would recommend this hotel highly to anyone staying near the airport - large sitting room plus bedroom and bathroom. Continental breakfast was exceptionally adequate. Staff couldn't have been more helpful, cheerful or obliging.
Very clean (except for the balcony which doesn't get washed unfortunately). Restaurant within walking distance and the wonderful ruins of Ostica Antica very close by and well worth a visit.
Recommended.

“Terrible Hospitality and Service”

Hotel Euro House Inn

I am writing about the Euro House Inn, near the Rome (Fiumicino airport). Hotel was clean and modern. Was similar to a Comfort Inn in the USA. Is still about a 10-15 min ride to the airport, which cost about 15Euro. Our room did not have a/c working properly and the staff refused to fix it the night we stayed there, and refused to give us another room. The hotel staff did not pick us up at the hotel when they said they would. I would not recommend this hotel, not worth having a great trip ruined by lousy hotel service at the end of a long, wonderful trip.
