My boyfriend and I stayed at the RDC for a week in order to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. I have been a loyal reader of tripadvisor for a few years now, but I have never been compelled to write a review until now. I am well travelled, and I am not a picky person. I have been to Mexico 6 times, and this was my second time in Neuvo Vallarta. The grounds of the resort were beautiful and lush, just as I expected from the reviews. However the resort left a lot to be desired. Perhaps if this was my first time on vacation at an AI resort, then It would have exceeded my expectations, but since this was my sixth trip to an AI in Mexico, this resort fell short. The food was good, but the selection was awful, especially for a resort this size. Also the hours for breakfast, lunch, and dinner were inconvenient because you had to wait too long in between meals. Breakfast was supposed to be open until 10:30 AM, but at about 10:15 - 10:20 they would take away all the food. Also lunch ends at 3 PM and dinner doesn't start until 6 PM, having to wait for 3 hours to eat when you get back from a shopping trip or canopy tour really sucks, especially when there is no room service, and the food at the snack bar isn't all that great. I'm semi-vegetarian, and I only eat chicken and fish (in terms of meat), so since the snack bar only served hot dogs and burgers, I was left to eat Guacamole (which tasted really good by the way). The buffets were very small, and the a la cartes were just ok, with the exception of Piccolo (the Italian restaurant), and we ate there 3 times. Our first time at Piccolo we were seated with 2 teenage girls that we didn't know because there were no more tables for two, when you're on vacation to celebrate an anniversary the last thing you want is to be seated with immature teens for a romantic dinner! Thankfully it did not happen again during our other 2 visits to Piccolo. The Wok and Jap Jap were really confusing until you figure out what's going on; you can't order your food, the waiter just brings it to you as it's made, but no one tells you this. The alcohol was ok, we are not big drinkers, so I can't really comment too much on the booze except that drink quality and tastiness really depended on which bartender you got. The weather was nice, it rained a few times, but only at night. The beach was great even though I got stung by a jellyfish, ouch! We walked to Bucerias, it's a quaint little village. We booked the Los Veranos Canopy Tour through Scott's Tours, he has the best prices! We saved $40.00 US for the two of us compared to what the hotel was charging. I would highly recommend this tour, I'm scared of heights, but I had a blast! Even though this resort is All-Inclusive you should still tip the staff because they work really hard, and it was a shame to see that a lot of guests were not tipping at all. Also try to use Pesos, after all you are in Mexico, and pesos are the currency of the country in which you are a guest of. You can exchange money at the resort, but their exchange rate sucks, right by the front of the hotel there is a currency exchange that gives better rates, it's near the disco. One thing that really bothered me was on our last day at 9:30 AM new guests were given the keys to our room that we did not have to check out of until noon! This couple was very rude and were trying to force their way into our room, the lady even reached behind the door to undo the chain on the door! If the chain is on the door shouldn't you stop and think that maybe there are people inside? And that maybe the front desk made a mistake? Unfortunately the lightbulb didn't go on in her head and she tried to get into our room 3 more times, and then the porter came with their luggage and also tried to come in! I was furious and went down to the lobby and talked with the gs manager: Karla, she was nice, apologized, and gave us a new room with late check out at 5 PM :) I had a good time overall but, I would not return to this resort because I have stayed at other resorts that were cheaper and better overall.
