Arriving at Offley Place, you come into a pretty little village and when you turn into the drive, you can imagine you have become some wealthy individual from the 18th century!
We were greeted by Richard, who I presume is the manager (never thought to ask!), who took us into a beautiful side room, quickly and efficiently checked us in, asked if we would be dining there and showed us to our room. We went up an elegant staircase and up to our room which was beautiful. The hotel has very recently had a major refurbishment and everything in the room looked to be new but very much in keeping with the style of the house, from the four poster bed, to the framed prints on the walls. The thick pile carpet was a treat on the toes too!!
We came down to dinner and had a drink in a pretty lounge with roaring log fire and attentive staff, who took our dinner order. After a few minutes we were taken through to the restaurant which is in a large conservatory area with pitched glass roof. It was still pleasant on a rainy evening, but must be lovely on a summer's evening. The food was well presented and nicely cooked and we found a lovely red on the wine list which wasn't overpriced as we might have expected in the type of restaurant.
Heading to our room, we found the bed had a warm feather duvet and good quality sheets, and we felt very luxurious! Rising in the morning, the shower had good pressure and was good and hot, once we'd worked out how to use it! Breakfast was cooked to order, and we had a very good english breakfast, with danishes and cereal etc also available.
Finally, we went to check out where our bill was ready for us, with our dinner and drinks etc all included and detailed. We left into the murky March weather wishing we could stay longer!
