We stayed here for a week, all inclusive and paid an additional supplement for a sea view room. We got exactly what it says on the tin, but to be honest on occasions I just didn't feel any sparkle about this place.
We have visited the resort previously and stayed at differing locations, so everything was as we expected that far.
Check in at the hotel was efficient and helpful. However, for a hotel which rates as 4* I was disappointed to have to pay extra to use the room safe. ( and it was very difficult to programme aswell, one of those one turn left, click your heels and snap your fingers jobs). Anyway, everything was dealt with efficiently and we were quickly shown to our rooms which were in the peaceful block 3 of the hotel.
Our room was nice and well appointed, but in my mind not as clean as it could be. I accidentally dropped some dust on the floor out of my make up case on the first day at the side of the sofa, and it was still there the day we left. Also, there is a shaped tile half way up the wall in the bathroom which was coated in dust on the top. Nothing dreadful, but just little niggles.
The pools are large and clean, although a little chilly at times. The sun beds are fantastic and the best quality I have ever experienced at a hotel, big thumbs up for this alone. The pool bar was clean and had help yourself drinks for fizzy drinks, water, wine, lager, fruit juice and wine. There was food available for most of the day, but you should be careful what you pick up because there are no labels ( no, they aren't onion rings like yesterday, they are squid rings - eek) But the food was of a nice snack standard, chips, burgers, hot dogs, cold meats, salad, rolls etc.
Now onto my biggest disappointment I am afraid. The restaurant was frankly a bit rubbish. It was massive, and the food well spread out which made it look like there was loads of choice, but really there wasn't. Salad was limited, nothing was really labelled so you had to have a good guess at what you were eating and some of the meat was a bit blurgh, by this I am talking chops which had meat the size of a thumb nail on it. However, they did do a roast a day, which was lovely and there was plenty of pasta/pizza/chips/canarian potatoes available.
However... the service in the restaurant was poor. Drinks were served at your table for lunch/dinner and you were lucky if you got one, but don't ask for two because they staff were quite down about this. Also, if you are a twosome and there are no tables for two available don't sit on a table for four or the waitress Lola will come and tell you off like a school child. ( There were exceptions to this rule and there was a really nice older gentleman on some days who had pure white hair and he was fabby).
Personally I don't agree that the staff were over worked in the restaurant, they just seemed busy doing nothing. At times I also thought that they left tables with half finished plates of food on so no one else would sit there and they would go and sit in someone elses area. If Barcelo were looking to change things I would suggest they make the food choices more varied and would suggest they do away with the receipts they make you take from the door to the table and then back to the door ( its all inclusive what is the point).
So, in summary, a nice hotel, in a really convenient area and I would return again if the price was right, but it would have to be a superb deal to get me there.
If you can afford it, get a sea view and ask for block 3
