These apartments have been recently refurbished and offer a comfortable, quiet place to stay in Caleta de Fuste.
Our apartment was certainly of a good 3* standard, with particularly nicely finished bathroom and plenty of space in the bedroom and main living areas - none of the negative comments of previous reviews, regarding cleanliness, tiredness of decor or even lack of TV seem to apply anymore.
Compared to the sprawling complexes elsewhere, the Puerto Castillo only has a handful of apartments surrounding a small, relaxed pool area - which for the most part is sheltered from the winds which frequently whip across the island and is a real suntrap. There is the option of using various facilities at the much larger Barcelo establishments which dominate the bay - but we didn't try these and with a young baby can't really comment on the nightlife in the town.
We reckon Caleta itself is a reasonable place to hang out for a week (definitely family-friendly), but is especially good as a base to explore the rest of the island. Whilst the town's beach is OK and is particularly safe for small children, it pales against the stunning stretches of coastline elsewhere. The roads are good, and you can reach almost anywhere on the island from Caleta in less than 1hr. Best beaches we found were in Cotillo, the dunes south of Corralejo and on the Jandia peninsula. An excursion up into the mountains around Betancuria is also recommended with some excellent views over the volcanic desert landscape.
