We read some of the reviews on Tripadvisor before booking, so weren't expecting anything too outstanding. The price seemed reasonable for 5 star (?) - You get what you pay for I suppose.

When we arrived, first impressions were good, the hotel is quite impressive from the outside, very modern, it stood out from the rest and was well placed.

It's a shame really that some things just let it down. Walking into the contemporary entrance, it's suddenly spolied by very naff dried flower arrangments and dodgy table cloths. Looking around there are more oddly placed items: no fitted bar (just more dodgy clothed tables with bottles on) and odd pieces of furniture that just don't fit. I don't know why there is a giant garden knome in the middle of the swimming pool?
It's like they just 'borrowed' some bits from another hotel, ran out money, or the manager has really bad taste.

Not really five star when you have to pay extra for all the facilities, like the poorly equipped gym. You'd expect to pay for the treatments in the spa, but not just for using the hydrotherapy pool and steam rooms (also half of the facilities were out of order).

Overall: a bit deserted, food not good , staff were pleasant and rooms were great. It's a shame really, as it has the makings of something better, but it's like they gave up on it before it was finished.

We wouldn't go again. I'd spend a bit more and try the Sheraton further along the beach.

“Great for families with young children”

Solvasa Geranios Suites & Spa

11 Dec 2007

There are some pretty comprehensive reviews on here that cover other stuff, so this is just to say that it's a really good place if you've got very young children.

We went with our two year old and he loved it. Everything is very clean, which is always a concern with little ones. We were given a third floor apartment, which really wasn't suitable because of the high balcony but were transferred without problem to one on the ground floor overlooking the pool which meant we could then safely use the balcony area as a 'playroom'.

The rooms are a very decent size, which is great with an active toddler running around the place. The kitchen is basic but fine for simple meals and again nice and new and spotless. The separate bedroom/lounge arrangement is also very useful when it comes to putting them to bed or down for a nap, because you don't need to creep around trying not to wake them. A cot was supplied as we had requested with our agent and it was a good-sized one suitable for an older toddler. The rooms are serviced every day, towels changed, floors cleaned, etc. like a good hotel and it was very sweet that this included laying out a nice tidy cot for our son, including tidying his bedtime friends and his pyjamas!

Apart from the very good children's pool - enormous and clean - the hotel also has a good indoor soft play area. This is quite a rarity and a real bonus for burning off some toddler energy. It was clean and new-looking. The lights were off in there but we just used it as and when we wanted.

One more thing to mention is that the supermarket 2 mins from the hotel does all the essentials to get your through your first day, plus buckets and spades, inflatables, so I wouldn't bother to bring those.

Finally the absolute best thing about this place is that it is 5 minutes' walk from a great, very child-friendly beach. The beach is in front of the Sheraton Hotel, and you have to walk across a grotty bit of wasteland to get to it, unfortunately. However once there we spent many, many happy hours on the clean sand and in the safe, shallow water, feeding the fish that come right up to you. It's an artificial lagoon so it's very calm and gently shelving. There were plenty of other kids for our son to play with, but it wasn't too busy. The biggest supermarket in town is just along from this beach, by the way.

Some negatives:
* As everyone else mentions, the hotel is quite strangely quiet. It would have been nice if there were just a few more kids for our son to play with.
* It feels like it's running with the bare minimum of staff (although they're all pretty friendly) and is struggling on a bit
* quite a few glitches: no kettle, no beach towels, no high chair in the room - all sorted out without problem, though
* electricity kept going off when we used the air conditioning. They kept sending a technician to fix it and eventually it worked. Wasn't a big deal.
* on one occasion they had to turn the hotel's water off for half a day. They did give us warning though and it didn't really affect us as we were always out.
* only Sky News in English on the TV. We brought a portable DVD player, which was very useful indeed for relaxation time for our son.
* It's so bizarre that they don't give you a map of the hotel or an information pack in the room about its facilities. Not knowing where things are adds to the weird atmosphere that other people have mentioned.
* Caleta beach itself is grotty. And Caleta town in all honesty is a bit of a dump. But our days were spent at the hotel pool, on the Sheraton's beach and in our nice room, so it didn't matter really!

If you can get a good deal, and you make sure you get a ground floor apartment and get all the bits and bobs you need, like high chairs, this hotel offers good value for money and is nicely (young) child-friendly. Our son really loved it and still talks about his holiday now!

“not as expected”

Solvasa Geranios Suites & Spa

15 Nov 2007

We booked this holiday through Budget Travel and have made a formal complaint about the Geranios Suite. It had been advertised in their "Something Special" Section but there was certainly nothing special about it. Contrary to what others have written we did not find the staff at all helpful and like another visitor our air conditioning too was out of order. We are well seasoned travelers in our late fifties and we certainly would not give this place a five star rating. Oh and there is a mosquito problem in this area. We were eaten alive!!!
We loved Fuertaventura though and will return but to a different place. Canada del Rio looks promising.

Stayed in the villa complex of this hotel and was stunned by the amount of space we had to ourselves. The staff were delightful (having an 11 month old child with us helps in Spain).

Things that disappointed were that the kids club was closed (altough we were there off season), the air-con in our bedroom was broken, as was a door handle to the balcony. I can see from these what some other people mean about this hotel missing something.

It is slightly out of town (5 minute walk to the towncentre) and if location is your main driver the Barcelo club is more central (Geranios is closer to town than the Sheraton).

It makes my recommended list due to the comfort of the space we had. The pools are lovely and far less crowded than the more central hotels. There's a little shop in the complex that seels all the main items a family will need (including nappies etc) that stays open late (until 10pm).

Flew out with Airtours on the 6th Oct 07 on a last minute cheap deal, flew out on a MyTravel Airways flight from London Gatwick the flight departed on time and arrived 10 minutes early, I booked an extra leg room seat having flown with them before (there's not much leg room on there Airbus A320 planes) the baggage was already going round on the carousel when I got to the baggage area which made getting from plane to coach very speedy. It was then on a 15 minute coach trip to the hotel.

On arrival at the hotel, check in was very speedy and i was taken to my room by a porter who took all my baggage, I open the door to my room and was very surprise at the size of the apartment. I had a large hallway which lead to the lounge area, off the lounge area were doors that lead to a large tastefully furnished bedroom with ample wardrobe space, digital safe, dressing table and coffee style table with arm chairs, from the bedroom (and a separate door from the lounge) was the modern designed bathroom with a separate toilet room, the bathroom had everything needed, Bath / Shower, Ample clean towels, hair drier, two glass hand basins and toiletries for all your needs.
The kitchen is a fully fitted style kitchen with a two ring hob, fridge, microwave/convection oven and all the utensils, pots, pans and crockery required. The lounge area has a dining table with chairs, a settee that converts in to another bed, coffee table, arm chair and TV (not a very good selection of TV channels but I don't go on holiday to watch TV) my balcony over looked the pool area, it was a large balcony with a table and four chairs and it also had a fold out washing line.
Hotel staff - Contrary to other revues I have read, I found the reception staff very helpful in fact all the staff were very friendly.

Food – I didn’t eat in the restaurant so I can’t comment on this area. I would however like to recommend a couple of restaurants that’s I ate in, for a great full English breakfast and a snack, I would recommend the beach café just outside the hotel on the sea front. For a great steak meal I would recommend the Irish steak house in the commercial center.

Hotel Entertainment – This was non existent really, they do advertise a daily entertainment program but the hotel is so quite that this doesn’t seem to happen, for a good evening out with some entertainment I recommend Pieros Café bar they have great entertainment every night.

Pool & Terrace Area - The pool area was large and spacious with 3 pools, a bar that served food and plenty of sun beds (you don’t need to fight for a sun bed here (there’s not many people here))

Cleanliness – The whole hotel was kept spotlessly clean

Internet – there is free internet access in the hotel lobby area, if you have your laptop you can connect to the hotels wireless network (wouldn’t work in the room but worked fine in the lobby)

Location – The hotel is situated on the seafront about a one minute walk to the sandy part of the beach. The commercial center where you will find the shops, bars and restaurants is less than a five minute walk away (close enough to walk to but far enough away not to hear any noise)
Talking of noise, being so close to the airport the resort is under the flight path to the airport and they are quite lowish when they fly over the hotel, for me personal I didn’t find this a problem, the first flight in the mornings seemed to be about 08:30 ish and the last at night was about 10:30 ish. In the room I couldn’t really hear them and they never woke me when I was asleep.2
Being a solo traveler, one thing I can say about the resort is that I personal felt completely safe walking around day and night.

I met some very nice people at the hotel, Hi to Julia, Mick & Jean and Rachell (the Airtours rep, the best rep I’ve met)
