The valentin star is a relaxing, friendly hotel where the staff do their utmost to welcome guests and make their stay pleasant.
Considering our stay was the very last week of the season one could expect the staff to be a little jaded but not at all. Everyone, receptionists, bar staff, waiters, maids, all greeted us with a big smile and friendly greeting whatever the hour.
The hotel was spotlessly clean, even remote corners, i know i checked! It became abit of a game to find some dust, the rooms were comfortable and well equipped and more than adequate for two.
The restaurant was pleasant, and yes, as mentioned in previous reviews, the tables were a little close together, which could pose a problem in high season.
Pool area was delightful, plenty of sunbeds and the bar offered a nice, if not massive selection of snacks and lunch items. Not cheap though not exorbitant.
The drinks in the bar were expensive but like others we filled our fridge from the local supermarket.
The area around the hotel was ok. Cala'n bosch is a lovely place, the marina is very pretty, especially when lit up at night. although by the time we left there were only two restaurants open and the others had packed up. They'd even taken the lamposts!
I should imagine it would be quite mental during the high season, It's only a small place and there are a few large hotels in the immediate area.
The beaches were small, but clean and pretty, we found some lovely walks across the cliffs.
Entertainment at the hotel wasn't brill, but that didn't bother us.
I would recommend paying for a room with a pool view though cos those looking onto the street didn't have much of a view.
Food in the restaurant was plentiful and varied, though some of the combinations were a little peculiar and there was a lot of german sausage. Obviously catering for the german guests. Desserts were fab!
All in all. a lovely relaxing hotel, though i think the public areas could be a little inadequate during the high season.

What can I say! We don't have any complaints at all with the Valentin Star. The food was amazing with loads of choice to suit everyone's needs. Even if there was something you didn't like, you just went and got something else. The desserts - OMG the desserts! They were to die for! If you have got a sweet tooth, then your in dessert heaven at the Valentin Star. We probably ate the cost of our holiday alone! I could go on about the food all night so I'll change onto something else. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are cleaned every day. Each room comes with it's own fridge which is handy as the poolside drinks bar and hotel bar are a bit expensive. The local supermarket is just round the corner where you can buy your own wine/beers/juice and stick them in your fridge. The rooms are a good size and is really modern with a classy touch of mahogany wood finishes and beautifully tiled marble bathrooms. We were there with our little boy who was just turning two and were lucky enough to get a room on the ground floor beside the baby end of the pool. From your outside balcony (which is spacious) is literally a 3 metre walk to the pool edge. The baby pool which led into the main pool was fantastic and shallow enough to let him go swimming on his own with us at the pool edge on the loungers watching. There is also a lifeguard/first aider on duty at the pool from 10am - 6pm every night. Hotel Entertainment was ok but there are bars close to the hotel which has live music on every night. Its nice and quiet around the harbour area and ideal for couples with young children and families or older couples. Can't recommend this hotel enough and will certainly be back!

Stayed at the Valentin Star, Cala' N Bosch near the end of October this year. And I must say that as a family we enjoyed are stay there. Worth paying the extra for the pool view room, you run the risk otherwise of overlooking the Irish bar,(other rooms back onto roads),who had "Joey Sexy Eyes" singing and playing the guitar and quite honestly some of the worst singing I have ever heard, would not get past the auditions for X Factor, believe me it was bad.
It was the last week of the season, most bars and restaurants have closed down, but we knew this before we booked. If you like it quiet this is the resort for you at this time of year. There are still enough bars, restaurants and supermarkets to cater for everyone.
The Hotel is very clean, friendly and efficient to your needs. We had a pool view room, upper floor, very quiet at night. There were people staying next door to us, did not here them once. First Hotel in Spain have stayed in that the walls are not paper thin, and it's carpeted in the corridor, so no being woken up by suitcases being pulled along etc. First holiday in ages that i can remember not having to use earplugs. Our room was only joined one way though. Only Two floors low rise Hotel.
Fridge in room, that was actually quite efficient for Hotel fridges, no kettle though.
Food was the biggest let down, looked great at first, not enough variety. We booked through Thomson and the food rating scored 66%, not great. You can dress anything up to look great. Desserts were terrible. The main problem was the food was not kept hot on the hotplates, worst hotel we have ever stayed in for this. By the time you have got everything and got back to your table it was cold. We have being going abroad to Spain for the last three years and have never found this a problem, the Hotel needs to sort this out. Don’t get me wrong lots of fresh fish, meats, etc cooked in front of you i am making a comparison on past holiday restaurants.
As for the Hotel entertainment, don't bother it was terrible, again worst we have experienced. Also the drinks in the Hotel are expensive 4.50 euro's for a pint of Sam Miguel, go out of the Hotel and it was 2.50 everywhere. The bars just round the corner are great overlooking the Harbor. We have a teenage daughter and a week was just right for us, good mix of different age groups at the hotel, relaxing and quiet. Different story if you opt to stay at the Hotel Cala' N Bosch, it's like Butlins next to the sea, if you like all that all inclusive stuff, big night entertainment always stuff going on, Union Jack towels hanging from the balconies everywhere, go for it.
Transfer time a bit of a problem from the airport, one and a half hours going almost two hours getting back. With Thomson the Hotel is one of the last stops. Take my advice hire a car; it's not difficult to get lost in Menorca only one main road. You will be by the pool long before the coach turns up with the other guests.
By far the best resort on the Island, go to the old capitol using the local buses, they are cheap and are very efficient from this resort serving the west side of the island very well.
Weather was fantastic, first two days rained; the rest of the holiday was dry in the late 70's. Talking to a few locals they said it was warm for the time of year. We knew it was the rainy season so we were not expecting long hot days, maybe we were lucky with the weather. Last two years we have been to the Canaries and the weather has been worse, same time of year.
But this holiday was half the price; I think the Canaries are overrated. Total holiday cost just over a thousand pounds for a week at a four star hotel, half board, flights, transfers, spending money etc. You cannot argue with that.
We like going away at this time of year, so i can appreciate that in August, for example, the Hotel and resort would be alot busier, so anyone reading this review bear that in mind.
Would I go back, yes to the Hotel and the resort, if i was stuck for a good holiday and the price we had just paid, we like trying different places.

We couldn't fault the hotel, room, food and cleanliness. The hotel is a two storied one, built around the pool, so all rooms either overlook the pool, or the roads on the outer side. At the end of the season, the marina is quiet. Due to the recession, some restaurants were closed, but there were enough still open to give a choice of somewhere to eat. Tomsons didn't have a great deal of trips, and our mistake was in booking two on one day. The trips themselves were very interesting, but we missed breakfast due to the early pick up. The hotel's idea of an early breakfast was to provide a "picnic" a bag with sandwiches of bread, ham and cheese, with a banana, orange and small drink carton. The evening trip to see the dressage horses didn't include a dinner, and as we had an early pick up again, we missed that meal, and wouldn't have had time to eat the picnic meal offered by the hotel .Our coach took nearly an hour to pick up all the guests, and then it was another hour before the show started. We felt Tomsons cut down on their coaches to save money, We were first on the coach, last off, so it was very late getting back to the hotel. We suggest asking reps how long the trips last, and what meal arrangemnets the hotel has in substituting picnic food for a meal in the dining room, which was paid for in the holiday cost. We had odd showers, one very windy day, and sunny days. It was always very warm. Menorca is a lovely island.

25 Oct 2009 | Trip type: Friends getaway

Went to this hotel with a pal (both of us ladies in our 50s) and had a lovely week, returning yesterday, 24 Oct. Hotel is spotless, room was great, very clean and maid service excellent. Pool area and outdoor seating also spotless. Food very plentiful and service excellent but not restful restaurant, very bright lighting and tables very close together. Evening entertainment was good. Weather very mixed, a few good sunny days, but a few wet and windy days. Many shops and bars closed and the remaining ones closing round us, so really too late in the season to go. We went on bus to Cuitedella and Mahon and found the buses very easy, on time and very clean and comfortable. Went on a harbour cruise in Mahon which was great and a day tour round the island which was very interesting and guide excellent.
Would return to the island and to this hotel, but earlier in the year.
