My mum and I decided to have a week away together six years ago and picked santorini and the Aegean View Studios. We continue to have a lovely week away together every June and love this hotel so much I would never consider staying anywhere else. Santorini is beautiful as a whole but the Aegean View is family run by great people who make us feel so welcome every year, the rooms are huge and spotlessly clean, the views from the pools and rooms are gorgeous. Not a bad word to say about any of it and can't wait for my June 2008 week away!!

I stayed here with 3 of my girlfriends and the setting is fabulous set in a quiet area with fantastic views of resort and beautifully lit up at night at the foothills of ancient thira. As in another review it looks like it is far away from resort but really is only 5 mins or so downhill to sea promenade, though on the way back maybe took a couple of minutes longer as we were there in a heatwave! the hill isn't too long to walk as others have said. Our apartment was huge with air con with separate bedroom good fridge and coffee maker and hot rings but we never cooked on them cleaned every day and fresh towels which is fantastic, all rooms have sea view the pool area is lovely, great wooden sunbeds with quilted covers very relaxing very clean with pool bar with prices not too bad coke 1.5 euro lovely greeek salad for 5euro. we did not have breakfast included as we booked independently but you can get all you can eat breakfast 4 euro incl cereal, orange juice coffee fruit wonderful greek yogurt bread cakes , ham and cheese etc. the staff were wonderful a great family who wouldn't let us lift a finger. the owner wouldn't let us lift our own suitcases, their main concern was your happiness. The hotel had a real mix of people from all over the world from groups of girls to families with all the kids making friends but never too noisy or packed. I will be booking to go back next year can't wait! We were there for 2 weeks and delightfully felt like 3 as this is a great place to stay in a fabulous island!

“Fabulous Views, Great Hotel”

Aegean View Hotel

Most definitley the best accommodation we have had in Greece so far. The rooms are huge and kept spotlessly clean. The views over Kamari and the Aegean are stunning. There are only a few hotels which enjoy this view as most of the other accommodation in Kamari is lower down the hill. The hill itself isnt too bad apart from on the way back up from the beach.......its a good workout!
The beach is lovely but beware - its not to be walked on in bare feet - it gets ridiculously hot. The water gets very deep very quickly. I am quite a confident swimmer and even I didnt feel I could swim here. Its certainly not for kids! You can buy sea shoes from most of the shops, they're needed really as the pebbles hurt your feet otherwise. We saw lots of people without them struggling to get in and out of the sea. Plenty of sunloungers at 6 Euros - you could turn up to the beach at any time and still get a space.
We were a little disappointed with the restaurants in Kamari. There are dozens of them all along the sea front and they all overlook the beach however we found the food quality to be a little lower than expected. Santorini is marketed as quite an upmarket Greek island however we only had about 5 really good meals over the 2 weeks we were there. The best restaurants were Classico, an Italian on the seafront and also the one next door to it - we didnt get the name but it has pale green tables and chairs. Kiwi restaurant was also nice - this is located on a side road near the internet cafe.
Fira is truly amazing. The pictures in brochures look amazing but seeing it with your own eyes.......jawdropping!
The airport is close to Kamari - its quite nice watching the planes coming in over the beach - especially the fighter jets!!! Dont worry though - the latest flight was about 11pm-12pm so you dont get disturbed, plus theres probably only about one flight an hour coming in - somedays we saw hardly any so theres little aircraft noise.
Beware the airport on the way home - expect to have to sit on the floor and be packed in like sardines. If you travel to Greece a lot (as we do) then you'll know what to expect!
All in all we had a lovely holiday, the accommodation and views from the balcony were what made it.

This hotel has a great view of Kamari & the sea. We had a very large apartment and cannot fault the cleanliness.

The rooms were cleaned daily and the towels were changed daily (Im not sure they needed changing daily but I was impressed).

We were disappointed that the pool doesn't have a very large terrace area and all the sunbeds are very close together. We were also dissapointed in our first week that all the beds were taken with towels being put on them by 9am - there were no sign of the people who would be lying on the towels until about an hour later. We had no hope of getting around the pool - I have to wonder what it is like in peak season.

We ended up using the beach for the 2 weeks, which was fine but is quite a steep trek coming back in the heat. After climbing the road to the hotel we then had to climb 83 steps to our apartment - at least it kept us fit! We would definately have got a hotel nearer the beach if we had known.

Last year we stayed in the other resort of Perissa and it is less crowded and much more layed back than Kamari. If I went back to Santorini I would definately choose to stay in Perissa.

Don't bother doing an arranged tour for 'an evening in Thira'. Get the local bus. They run very regularly between Kamari & Thira and fairly late. They are new, air conditioned and it costs only 1.20 euros each way - a bargain!

All in all the Aegean View is a nice, clean hotel but be aware that the pool can get very crowded.

Our family of 4 stayed here in June 07.
Excellent hotel and possibly in the best spot in Kamari because you are out of the town, up the hill, with great views of the town and the sea.
The walk to the hotel is uphill but we managed it ok and so did our children aged 5 and 8. Not suitable for disabled visitors though because there are stairs all around the grounds.
The pool is clean, as is the whole hotel. the rooms were kept spotless by staff.
If you feel energetic you can climb the mountain behind the hotel to visit the ruined city at the top. Warning - do it after the sun goes over the mountain about 4.30pm as it will be cooler. Its hard going in the sun.
All in all we loved it and the kids want to go back.
