Hi,
I would like to tell you about our stay in the Afroditi Venus Hotel, Kamari,Santorini,Greece.
We booked last minute (a week before we departed) & it cost for 3 of us just under £1000 on a Half Board Basis. We booked with ON THE BEACH & they were fantastic I highly recommend them.
We arrived at Santorini Airport which has only got 1 terminal & 1 luggage carousel, but the airport baggage people were very quick & we got our luggage virtually straight away. As we had not got a transfer from the airport to the hotel as it would have taken about 30 mins on the coach with drop-offs we got a taxi which was straight outside the airport & it cost 15euros & got us there in about 10 mins.
The reception area was nice, but could do with upgrading. Receptionist was very pleasant indeed & welcoming.
I WOULD RATE THE HOTEL AS A 3 STAR NOT 4 STAR.
We were in rooms 618 & 619 & had a view of the lovely pool. They were extremely clean & typically greek as so much as being basic but comfortable. If you usually sleep on 2 pillows at home then you will need to ask for another pillow for your bed as you are only given 1, but I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.
The cleaners cleaned the rooms everyday, changing sheets, pillow cases, towels & you even got a toilet roll every day which we just couldn't believe. The cleaners just didn't stop cleaning from early morning until around 3pm.
Breakfast is from 7.30am - 10am & we were expecting a continental breakfast, but were nicely taken aback when it was full english & also a continental. It is buffet style so you can have as much as you like. Fresh juice, coffee, tea, water, bread, toaster, Everything you need really.
Evening meal was from 7pm - 10pm & was again buffet style & we found the food of a very nice standard with no complaints at all.
The hotel is in a fantastic location for the beach as you can take a short cut through the hotel at the side of the outside bar & it takes you straight to the beach which is that close that you can hear the waves. The beach isn't nice at all & although I knew it was volcanic & would be black it's not very clean & you need sandels on your feet as it's not sand but very shaley.
As we went on the 18th of Oct there wasn't much open, but we found a fantastic bar called OXYGEN/O2 which was great as they had comfortable settee's & was also an internet cafe.
We travelled into Fira on the bus which from the hotel took about 15mins to get to & cost 1.20euros each. The buses are very modern & air-conditioned. If you go left out of the hotel the bus stop is just at the bottom of the street & will take you literally 2 mins to get to.
Fira is very oldy-worldy & also compact. When you get dropped off at the little bus station walk up the hill & straight facing you is the museum which is a nice place to visit (not very big but nice anyway) & is only 3 euros each, Children & students get in free & if you keep your ticket & go to the other museum near the cable car you get in free.
When you come out of the museum walk upwards at the side of the Hotel Atlantica & prepare yourself for one of the best views you will probably ever see IT'S BREATH-TAKING !!!.
I was happy at the hotel as there was a nice relaxed,Happy, Friendly feel about it, but I must admit that out of all the Greek holidays I have been on I truthfully thought that after all the hype I had read about Santorini it would be FABULOUS, but I was disappointed & wouldn't go back, but as it was a long over due holiday I am grateful that I went as I needed the break.
I hope what I have written will be of some use to you as I try to be as accurate as possible with all my reviews.
The AFRODITI VENUS HOTEL is very nice, but SANTORINI wasn't that fabulous as a greek island I have been to better, but that is my opinion & until you go yourself I will leave it up to you to make your own mind up.
Enjoy yourself.
Have a lovely time !!
