Hi,

I would like to tell you about our stay in the Afroditi Venus Hotel, Kamari,Santorini,Greece.

We booked last minute (a week before we departed) & it cost for 3 of us just under £1000 on a Half Board Basis. We booked with ON THE BEACH & they were fantastic I highly recommend them.

We arrived at Santorini Airport which has only got 1 terminal & 1 luggage carousel, but the airport baggage people were very quick & we got our luggage virtually straight away. As we had not got a transfer from the airport to the hotel as it would have taken about 30 mins on the coach with drop-offs we got a taxi which was straight outside the airport & it cost 15euros & got us there in about 10 mins.

The reception area was nice, but could do with upgrading. Receptionist was very pleasant indeed & welcoming.

I WOULD RATE THE HOTEL AS A 3 STAR NOT 4 STAR.

We were in rooms 618 & 619 & had a view of the lovely pool. They were extremely clean & typically greek as so much as being basic but comfortable. If you usually sleep on 2 pillows at home then you will need to ask for another pillow for your bed as you are only given 1, but I'm sure it wouldn't be a problem.

The cleaners cleaned the rooms everyday, changing sheets, pillow cases, towels & you even got a toilet roll every day which we just couldn't believe. The cleaners just didn't stop cleaning from early morning until around 3pm.

Breakfast is from 7.30am - 10am & we were expecting a continental breakfast, but were nicely taken aback when it was full english & also a continental. It is buffet style so you can have as much as you like. Fresh juice, coffee, tea, water, bread, toaster, Everything you need really.

Evening meal was from 7pm - 10pm & was again buffet style & we found the food of a very nice standard with no complaints at all.

The hotel is in a fantastic location for the beach as you can take a short cut through the hotel at the side of the outside bar & it takes you straight to the beach which is that close that you can hear the waves. The beach isn't nice at all & although I knew it was volcanic & would be black it's not very clean & you need sandels on your feet as it's not sand but very shaley.

As we went on the 18th of Oct there wasn't much open, but we found a fantastic bar called OXYGEN/O2 which was great as they had comfortable settee's & was also an internet cafe.

We travelled into Fira on the bus which from the hotel took about 15mins to get to & cost 1.20euros each. The buses are very modern & air-conditioned. If you go left out of the hotel the bus stop is just at the bottom of the street & will take you literally 2 mins to get to.

Fira is very oldy-worldy & also compact. When you get dropped off at the little bus station walk up the hill & straight facing you is the museum which is a nice place to visit (not very big but nice anyway) & is only 3 euros each, Children & students get in free & if you keep your ticket & go to the other museum near the cable car you get in free.

When you come out of the museum walk upwards at the side of the Hotel Atlantica & prepare yourself for one of the best views you will probably ever see IT'S BREATH-TAKING !!!.

I was happy at the hotel as there was a nice relaxed,Happy, Friendly feel about it, but I must admit that out of all the Greek holidays I have been on I truthfully thought that after all the hype I had read about Santorini it would be FABULOUS, but I was disappointed & wouldn't go back, but as it was a long over due holiday I am grateful that I went as I needed the break.

I hope what I have written will be of some use to you as I try to be as accurate as possible with all my reviews.

The AFRODITI VENUS HOTEL is very nice, but SANTORINI wasn't that fabulous as a greek island I have been to better, but that is my opinion & until you go yourself I will leave it up to you to make your own mind up.

Enjoy yourself.

Have a lovely time !!

Our travel agent recommended this hotel. It was our mistake for not following up with our own research of the hotel. We got married in Santorini and asked to stay on the beach side. We ended bringing our families with us and managed to get all 5 rooms there. All in all, there were 10 of us. However, once we got settled in our rooms, we discovered that there were many maintenance problems with the hotel. Almost every room had a problem, ie, the tv didn't work or the air conditioner didn't work well or the air conditioner leaked. The reception people were not very friendly, nor hospitable. One was quite rude. Luckily I didn't let the problems get to me, otherwise I wouldn't have had a great wedding getaway.
The hotel looks ethestically pleasing from the front to the pools but I will never stay there again or recommend it to anyone.

I have only recently spent a week in this hotel (31 Aug - 7 Sept). Although the hotel is rated 4 stars, it is not European 4 stars really. Our room was quite spacious, but the furniture was of wood and basic. The air-conditioning was functioning perfectly well and additionally, there was also a huge ceiling fan. We got slippers in the room and bathrobes (which we of course did not wear, as it was too hot for them). The size of the bathroom was really OK, but the bathtub was not very new. The towels were grayish and well washed. So, do not expect any luxury in the rooms, they are furnished, let's say, in a style more characteristic of islands. We had a cute balcony. The rooms are cleaned every morning, but really cleaned! The whole hotel is perfectly clean.
We stayed there on a half-board basis and both meals were really good - a wide selection of food, yummie sweets... For breakfast, there were no rolls, but only bread (very tasty indeed). The atmosphere in the dinning-room was really nice and relaxing, it was not resembling a canteen.
The swimming-pool was not very large, but when I was there, I wished I could stay there for ever. Even tough many people stayed at the pool, it was so calm and relaxing there, with those pink flowers around and Greek music in the background.
The hotel staf, from the receptionists to the cleaning-staff, were extremely polite and helpful.
The hotel is in the closest vicinity of the bus station and the beach and the promenade.
There is also a spa there, which we didn't have time to see and try its services, since there is so much to be seen and enjoyed at this small and lovely island.
Notwithstanding the mentioned faults, I would certainly recommend this hotel to everyone.

We just got back from a lovely week in Santorini staying at the Venus Beach hotel in Kamari on a half board basis. My partner and I went there for 1 week.
The Venus did sadly only give us a twin room as there were no doubles available, but other than that initial set back it was a pleasant stay. It is not a 4 star by English standards but is a nice place with a great swimming pool and a fantastic receptionist named Katerina.
The rooms are small and the bathrooms are tiny. Many people were complaining of the size of the bathrooms. I felt that it was adequate though and the maid service and cleaning was excellent.
The food we had for dinner was very nice - a wide variety of Greek cooking that is both tasty and homely. Breakfast was OK - the usual continental style of buffet breakfast that you could expect anywhere.
Kamari is a very relaxed resort but it is entirely touristy. I doubt any locals would go there to eat or shop and the prices can get a little cheeky.
The Venus is right near the black pebble beach. Be warned it is rather hot on the feet in the noon sun so bring thick flipflops or beach shoes!
The sea is beautifully clear and is lovely - I really recommend getting out of Kamari though and seeing the more interesting parts of the island such as Ia at the Northern tip, where you can enjoy fine dining and stunning views. There is also Imerovigli to see - it is one of the highest points on the island as is well worth a trip. There are various tours to the volcano, and to the one white sandy beach on the island by boat. All well worth doing. Santorini is full of history and culture...Acrotiri is closed at the moment but there is a museum in Fira with many Menoan artifacts - well worth a look.
I wish we had had more time to soak up all it has to offer. We will be going back there for sure but we will try to stay in Ia next time.
If you have kids and fancy a lively fun resort then Kamari is perfect. If you want romance and quiet it may be worth checking out the rest of the island.

My partner and I ages 25 & 27 have just came back from the venus, hotel was nice although our room was basic (found out from others some were better) pool area was very nice although people reserve sunbeds early so if you want one you have to be quick. food was ok a good selection for evening meal but was sometimes not hot enough. The staff were very nice and our rep was excellent as we had a problem the first day ( we had paid half board but the hotel thought we were b&b) this was resolved quickly with a complimentry lunch thrown in. All in all kamari is a lovely resort with many bars & restraunts although not very lively, don't worry about taking much evening wear as people don't seem to bother getting dressed up.we booked last minute with thomas cook and paid £670 for one week half board for two people. Talking to others in the hotel the prices seemed to vary and so did the standard of the rooms which we were'nt told upon booking. We had a lovely relaxing time in santorini but would'nt go back as its a bit quiet.
