I stayed at the TZante hotel in Laganas in September 2010 with my friend; we went with 18-30’s. The hotel is in a perfect location – right near everything. The beach is a 5 minute walk away, supermarkets are all around, and food places are right next door and opposite. All the bars and clubs are within walking distance as this hotel is right on the main strip.
The beach is average. There are bars all along which offer free sun beds, which is true at most but be careful with a few who charge you and then expect you to buy food. However, there are also some which are genuine and do not hassle you to spend money in their bar, although obviously they would like you to do so! The beach is littered with fag butts which ruins it, although the further you walk up the beach, the cleaner it gets. There are pedal and speed boats available to hire also, but you would have to go elsewhere for water sports.
The nightlife is great – there are many bars and clubs to choose from, most offering good drink deals, and of course with huge alcoholic measures! Expect to pay around 5 euro’s for a small cocktail in most places, and 1-3 euro’s for a shot. Our favourite places to drink and for the atmosphere were ‘Cocktails and Dreams’ and ‘G-Spot’. I would also say – definitely try the local food – Lamb kleftiko and Mousakka are so nice!
As we went with 18-30’s we booked 5 evening events for the week that we stayed, costing 130 euro’s. If I ever went again, I would not go with them, and instead do what we wanted, and perhaps book just 1 or 2 events with them, which can be done. Most of the nights included 2 hours of fun, and then you were just dumped in a club, and left to spend a fortune on drinks! I would definitely recommend School Disco night and Silent Arena – some of the best events I’ve been to in my life! Be aware that the ‘free bar’ only includes cheap local vodka, schnapps and beer with soft drink mixers – this does get very boring! The ‘bar crawl’ included a total of 3 bars and 1 club – total rubbish! All of the nights out started at around 8.30pm, which I thought was a tad early when you could be out till 7am!! On a positive point though – the reps are hilarious and so much fun!
The hotel itself was distinctly average! 3 stars may be a bit high! Reception staff and area were very nice and friendly. You pay 20 euro’s for the safety deposit box, and if you want air con then its 8 euro’s per night – we opted out for this due to the time of year we went. The room was ok, fairly dirty, especially the floor – it was horrible constantly having black and sandy feet!! You get a large and small hard towel each – these were changed once! Our shower had a curtain (a rarity) but was very small and you have to hold the shower head. As you must have read – the toilet cannot have paper put down it, so you have to use a bin – this gets changed every other day mostly! The sink had no plug, so don’t expect to wash anything! Beds were very low and hard, and sheets changed once. There was a fair amount of storage space but bring some hangers. ‘Self-catering’ well that was a joke! All you have is a fridge! We had to buy a bowl and cup from a shop and then eat cereal with our fingers – could not find spoons anywhere!! So bring your own equipment I would say, or eat out for around 5 euro’s. The balcony is nice and spacious – we had a room on the first floor overlooking the main street – it was noisy till around 6am, so bring earplugs, which work a treat!
Pool area is small, and I did not want to get in the pool – it could do with a good clean! Loungers were comfy though. The pool bar is nice – the men behind it are very nice, friendly and helpful – be sure to ask Richie to make you the strongest cocktail he can – 5 euro’s for a pint! There is also slow internet access available in the hotel priced at 2 euro’s for every 15 minutes.
Overall I don’t think I’d stay here again, but don’t get me wrong, if you are wanting 18-30’s then this is probably the nicest place in Laganas to stay, after speaking to other guests. I wouldn’t go back to Laganas, as I think once you’ve done it, you’ve done it!
