This was our first holiday abroad since having our children (age 3 and 4) so we purposely chose a family friendly hotel. However, when we arrived, the interconnecting room we had booked turned out to be interconnecting, but we couldn't use the ajoining room unless we paid for two rooms! Why would we go to the bother of booking ONE interconnecting room - Thomson need to make sure travel agents are aware of this because the hotel said this was an ongoing problem.
The room was VERY noisy at night - we booked a quiet room with a pool view but got neither. All night we could hear people returning from the entertainment (we were about 30 seconds walk from the main stage so heard EVERYTHING!) or dragging suitcases up and down the corridor. The plane noise was quiet in comparison to this!!!
The food was actually ok, plenty of choice in the restaurant. Definitely upgrade to all inclusive - the drinks are a rip-off in this hotel, although in general Ibiza is a lot more expensive now than it used to be. As you are so far out from the main resort, popping into a restaurant for lunch isn't that easy so AI is worth it, especially with young children.
Playa d'en Bossa itself wasn't too nice, although the Palm Beach Club is on a lovely part of the beach. We spent a lot of time in Ibiza Town (bus stop outside the hotel and really cheap to travel there) which has a lot more to offer than Bossa. We also found that from there you could visit other parts of the island easily. We took boat trips to Es Cana and Santa Eulalia (a much nicer resort), and there were plenty of tours to Formentera. Doing day trips yourself was far cheaper than going via Thomson - we thought their rates were ridiculous - and you could decide on your own schedules which was much better for us.
Back at the hotel, the evening entertainment was ok. There was a mini-disco for kids but it started way too late - the children were waiting for about an hour before it got going! This was provided by Thomson, but you got the impression that some of the reps couldn't care less about the children and often just laughed their way through it, messing around with each other. Our children usually enjoy going to nursery and playing with other children, but they only stayed at the kids club here once and refused to go back, which to me says something about its quality. There were an awful lot of children in tears outside each morning, so we gave up after a couple of days! Going back to the entertainment, once the kids slot was done, there was some more entertainment on each night, but as it was so stupidly late, the children were so exhausted we took them to bed (although we could hear pretty much everything from our 'quiet' room).
The worst thing about this holiday happened when we returned home. We had paid for a late check out room on the last day and left our cases packed in the room while we went out. When we were on the plane, all the cases were locked and hadn't been tampered with on our return. However, once we arrived home, we realised that over £200 worth of our 3-year old daughter's clothes had gone from the cases (including from our dirty washing). Although our room was locked, hotel staff had access to it, and this was the only opportunity for anyone to access our cases.
The hotel wasn't interested when we called them, and Thomson didn't even apologise or compensate us in any way. We wouldn't go back to this hotel and certainly won't travel with Thomson again!
