This is our fourth year back. we have had an excellent time.Already looking to book for next year. There are 15 of us who meet there every year who all have a brilliant time.Just a couple of grumbles this year, some of the male bar staff were really rude and the fiesta head no 1 was not very good not a patch on past no 1s , cookie , chipo, slacko. We absolutely loved frank, sabrina, oscar, david they made our holiday hope they are back next year.

“Nice hotel, shame about the location”

Fiesta Club Palm Beach

18 Jul 2008

Really nice hotel, kept spotlessly clean and a really good choice of food. Down worry about the aeroplanes as you hardly notice them at all.Entertainment is ok ,but not great although the fiesta reps do their best. The only real downside is how early you have to get up to get a sunbed. The beach is excellent and not too crowded.
However Playa d'en Bossa is an absolute dump and extremely disappointing !
Ibiza town is well worth a visit in the evening 1.40 on a bus which goes from right outside the hotel and about 12e back in a taxi.
Do not take the full board option before you go as the all inclusive option at the hotel includes an upgrade to full board on the food.

“Are a great beach and great food enough?”

Fiesta Club Palm Beach

17 Jul 2008

Let's start with the positive points:

As many other reviewers have pointed out, this hotel is near the airport but it really isn't a problem and it didn't bother me that the planes were a little larger in the sky than normal. All the other hotels nearby are closer to the flightpath than the Fiesta Palm Beach. The Hotel is situated on the beach and the beach really is excellent - fine sand, warm shallow waters, plenty of space, some cool beach bars nearby. The Hotel food is excellent with a very wide choice food which varied every night, although less thought went into the deserts. The rooms were clean although they were cleaned a little to eagerly by the maids who arrived very early each day. There was plenty of entertainment for kids although the entertainment provided by the hotel was infinitely more professional and enthusiastic than the half hearted efforts of the Thomson reps. I reckon this hotel attracts at least 50% Germans, 30% British and the rest mixed. The people we met, of all nationalities, were generally courteous and friendly.

Now for the negatives:

This hotel seems intent on reminding you at every turn that you are in a three star hotel. The check in was a shambles and not all the reception staff spoke english particularly well. Some bar staff also spoke very little english. (I know that it is presumptious to expect everyone to speak English but these holidays are sold in blocks as packages in British travel agents - they aren't city breaks). The general decor and grey colour scheme was drab and gave no feeling of comfort or luxury, reminding one of an airport lounge. The hotel has no lifts which means that you could be carrying your cases up three floors of stairs. Our party contained 1 pregnant woman, two elderly people and one 3 year old who all found the stairs a struggle at times. There is no way that people with disabilities could use this resort. The hotel rooms have no fridge but, like the safe, you can hire one for 55 euros a week. The rooms all have a tiny portable TV but News 24 is the only English speaking channel. The pool bar had an extremely limited range of snacks and the beach bar stopped selling its snacks at 4. Soft drinks were unreasonably expensive at 1 euro 75 for a very small coke. Beer was OK at 3 euro 25 a pint I suppose but a gin and tonic was 4 euro. There is an all inclusive drinks option at 14 euro a day per person but for our party it wasn't really worth it (everyone would need to drink 5 pints a night to make it worth their while). The Thomson reps were as usual intent on selling you their overpriced excursions and helping out in no other way. As usual they spoke no Spanish and when I asked whether there were excursions to the caves in Ibiza it was suggested that I "hire a car and drive there then pay in". Thank God for reps with their intimate local knowledge! The hotel is maybe a 20-30 minute walk from the main shopping area which is really no more than a collection of supermarkets and cheapo shops. Although it is a short walk it is tough in the heat. There are some bars and one or two clubs but if I were a clubber I'd go somewhere more mainstream like San Antonio. For me they weren't really worth the walk. There is a bus into Bossa which also goes all the way to Ibiza Town however a party of four are always better off getting a taxi which are plentiful and well run. The bus quickly gets dangerously overcrowded and I saw one passenger almost have a panic attack after the 200th passenger was squeezed on to the bus.

What is most galling about this place is that if you go next door, say to the Hotel Bahamas, you immediately see how a nicer atmosphere can be created by just spending a few thousand pounds on better furniture and art work. While the Palm Beach has ubiquitous white plastic garden chairs the Bahamas boasts a trendy beach restaurant with wooden tables and lots of wicker. While the Palm beach uses tatty grey tub seats indoors the Bahamas invests in a few leather couches. Another major annoyance is the TV. There was one 40 inch TV in the entire hotel. The European Championship Final was on (featuring Germany and Spain, so a lot of local interest) as was the Wimbledon final (also featuring a Spaniard). Despite this 200 guests had to cram around this one TV. I have a bigger TV in my living room. The hotel Bahamas next door, needless to say, offered a projection screen for these events. Even in your room the solitary English channel is really an insult. I know we don't go on holiday to watch TV but there were 6 German channels, 6 Spanish channels and even two Italian channels. If British holiday makers regularly make up a sizeable percentage of a hotels guests then the hotel should make an effort to make them feel comfortable if they want them to return. As it was there were times when I wondered why I had given up so many home comforts to pay to stay in small prison cell.

“Not one to go back to”

Fiesta Club Palm Beach

This was our first holiday abroad since having our children (age 3 and 4) so we purposely chose a family friendly hotel. However, when we arrived, the interconnecting room we had booked turned out to be interconnecting, but we couldn't use the ajoining room unless we paid for two rooms! Why would we go to the bother of booking ONE interconnecting room - Thomson need to make sure travel agents are aware of this because the hotel said this was an ongoing problem.

The room was VERY noisy at night - we booked a quiet room with a pool view but got neither. All night we could hear people returning from the entertainment (we were about 30 seconds walk from the main stage so heard EVERYTHING!) or dragging suitcases up and down the corridor. The plane noise was quiet in comparison to this!!!

The food was actually ok, plenty of choice in the restaurant. Definitely upgrade to all inclusive - the drinks are a rip-off in this hotel, although in general Ibiza is a lot more expensive now than it used to be. As you are so far out from the main resort, popping into a restaurant for lunch isn't that easy so AI is worth it, especially with young children.

Playa d'en Bossa itself wasn't too nice, although the Palm Beach Club is on a lovely part of the beach. We spent a lot of time in Ibiza Town (bus stop outside the hotel and really cheap to travel there) which has a lot more to offer than Bossa. We also found that from there you could visit other parts of the island easily. We took boat trips to Es Cana and Santa Eulalia (a much nicer resort), and there were plenty of tours to Formentera. Doing day trips yourself was far cheaper than going via Thomson - we thought their rates were ridiculous - and you could decide on your own schedules which was much better for us.

Back at the hotel, the evening entertainment was ok. There was a mini-disco for kids but it started way too late - the children were waiting for about an hour before it got going! This was provided by Thomson, but you got the impression that some of the reps couldn't care less about the children and often just laughed their way through it, messing around with each other. Our children usually enjoy going to nursery and playing with other children, but they only stayed at the kids club here once and refused to go back, which to me says something about its quality. There were an awful lot of children in tears outside each morning, so we gave up after a couple of days! Going back to the entertainment, once the kids slot was done, there was some more entertainment on each night, but as it was so stupidly late, the children were so exhausted we took them to bed (although we could hear pretty much everything from our 'quiet' room).

The worst thing about this holiday happened when we returned home. We had paid for a late check out room on the last day and left our cases packed in the room while we went out. When we were on the plane, all the cases were locked and hadn't been tampered with on our return. However, once we arrived home, we realised that over £200 worth of our 3-year old daughter's clothes had gone from the cases (including from our dirty washing). Although our room was locked, hotel staff had access to it, and this was the only opportunity for anyone to access our cases.

The hotel wasn't interested when we called them, and Thomson didn't even apologise or compensate us in any way. We wouldn't go back to this hotel and certainly won't travel with Thomson again!

Just returned from a week in the Palm Beach and can't complain. The hotel is very family orientated (mainly British & Germans) but as a young couple without kids we still had a good time!

Staff all generally friendly and helpful, rooms newly furnished and comfortable and good air conditioning throughout. Choice of food was good and for such a large complex was tasty too! Was nice to be able to sit outside at dinner when we wanted to. We didn't bother going All Inc for the drinks as we weren't around the pool much but a bottle of nice Rose was only 9Euros and the cheapest bottle of wine we had with dinner once was 5.50Euros (drinkable, considering two single vodkas and one can of red bull in Pacha nightclub was 31Euros, ouch).

Best part of Playa D'en Bossa beach is on the doorstep of the Palm Beach; beautiful white sand, wide and clear blue sea. The Fiesta team worked hard to entertain day and night and did an excellent Moulin Rouge show, we didn't have much to do with the Thomson reps but the kids looked entertained who joined in. Water park is within walking distance and airport only ten mins bus (planes don't go directly over hotel unlike main part of Bossa!). Hotel is on outskirts of resort. Local buses to Ibiza town go from front of hotel regularly and only 1.70Euros.

Worst part of hotel in our opinion was the overcrowded pool area during day, couldn't really move an inch between sunbeds and we never saw a spare one all week so just went to beach (6Euros a bed on the beach). Pool best avoided 10 - 6 if you want some space! Also the maids tended to like cleaning the rooms ultra early (cleaned daily). Didn't appear to be any lifts in hotel for people with heavy cases/ buggies etc.

All in all a good place to stay, esp for families as food, entertainment and beach excellent.
