Firstly - ignore any negative feedback this hotel gets, I will tackle each issue here. I have just returned from a week at Club Playa D'en Bossa and thought it was a great place. If you're looking for a top quality 5 star hotel, this isn't it - it's a standard 3 star hotel, but better than some in my opinion due to it's 'apartment' style layout, meaning no huge block - just lots of small (three floors high) blocks with each room looking different to the one next to it. Also given it's location on the beach, the hotel is great value for money.
Location is ideal, a 10 minute drive from the airport and in a relatively quieter stretch, compared to the 'tackier' end of Playa D'en Bossa. The outside of the hotel is clean and nice, looking modern. Check in was effortless, with the staff being very helpful. We were allocated a room next to the pool, which had a small terrace outside meaning we could sunbathe there, and were still only a short distance to go and take a dip in the pool.
Rooms are very 'standard Spanish apartment' in that they have a tiled floor, two single beds pushed together, a dressing table, TV, sofa, and (large) wardrobe. The bathroom we had was a bit outdated and dark, but still very clean, with a sink (and mirror), bidet, WC, and bath with a shower (see further below for more on rooms). I've seen a review which says to American guests, don't bother to take your electrical goods as you can't plug them in. Come on!! Seeing as the hotel is in Europe surely this doesn't mean that it has to have exactly the same type of electrical socket as the US! I am from England and simply took a plug adapter, meaning our electrical items worked just fine. Having been to America on many occasions, I know that you can easily buy adapters there to use abroad. Also don't believe reviews which say there is no air conditioning - I'm not sure if the hotel have installed more since these people stayed here, but we saw two rooms and both had A/C. Both also had a ceiling fan which created a nice cool breeze.
The food in the hotel was very nice. Buffet style meals, with a huge amount of choice which is regularly refreshed (even up to closing time) so nothing ever goes cold or runs out. At breakfast there were cereals, breads, cold meat, cooked food with many nationalities and tastes catered for. The dining room itself does seem a bit dated, but as I said before, this isn't billed as a 5 star resort so you get what you pay for. You have to pay for drinks with your evening meal, and at breakfast all water, juices, tea/coffee come free. Being a buffet you can also visit as many times as you like in that sitting, but you are not allowed to take food away with you.
The pool is big but not too deep (6 feet max) but beware, the water is very cold - it does get a bit warmer as the day goes on, but just in case you plan to dive straight in, beware. There is also a shallow children's pool.
By the pool there is a bar which is open until midnight, 7 days a week serving all types of drinks and some snacks.
The beach is very nice and not massively crowded as you would normally find in some European destinations. The sea seems very warm and is relatively clear with a sandy floor, meaning you shouldn't be catching your feet on any rocks etc. There is a bar and restaurant leading from the pool area to the beach, with a nice outside terrace in the shade. Main food from this place is pizza, and very nice they are too. A lovely place to have lunch and look out on to the beach and sea in front of you.
As for entertainment at the hotel, there is an on-site 'Animacion' team providing activities throughout the day such as Aerobics, Pilates, Archery, Volleyball, Football (soccer to any American readers), Table Tennis, Boulles, and others. The Animacion team work extremely hard to keep you entertained during the day and in the evening there are always shows/karaoke/quizzes etc. to keep you happy.
Getting back to the rooms, on checking out we had a few hours to kill so we locked our cases in a room behind reception and nearer leaving time we were given a room to shower and change. This room was on the 3rd floor and seemed more modern than our previous room and the bathroom was certainly more up to date, so I suppose they are updating them all the time. The only thing with a 3rd floor room is there are no lifts (elevators) meaning you have to carry your cases up the stairs.
The hotel itself is aimed at the younger crowd and our tour operator did not take bookings for children - this was nice as it meant there were hardly any kids in the pool areas etc. so if you want a place with no screaming children, it's ideal.
Unfortunately with the hotel being so close to the airport, there is aircraft noise - big style. Playa D'en Bossa is on the flight path approach which means that every now and then you get planes no more than 200 feet up, coming in to land, passing over the hotel. It is a bit strange first of all, but after a while you get used to it. There are times during the day where planes don't come in or leave for a few hours, so it's not all the time (and not through the night).
The night/day club Space is right opposite the hotel, so this may appeal to clubbers. I've seen reviews which complain about noise from the club but sitting by the pool in the hotel, you can hear nothing. As for Playa D'en Bossa itself, there are plenty of bars (including the obligatory Irish one) and plenty of restaurants if you want to eat out. My favourite bars were Coco's and Top 21, and although we never ate there, the 'Moorea' restaraunt (turn right out of the hotel and walk for 5 minutes) looked and smelt very nice - outdoor grills where the food is cooked almost in front of you.
All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The place is as lively or as relaxed as you want to make it, and for the price it's excellent value for money. If you want a top 5 star resort go elsewhere - if you want excellent value for money and don't mind a younger crowd (and no children), you can't fault this place.
