Well again like the last review it is difficult to rate this hotel. I understand why people have put certain things about italians and stuff like that here goes anyway.

We arrived early evening on a Sunday and it was very busy in the hotel lobby as it was every night. Tons of groups of Italian lads. I expected this though and they just kept themselves to themselves, never spoke to or hassled myself or my wife. I found the male staff to be very helpful. The female staff however were not so and everything seemed to be hard work for them to do. Within 30 mins of arriving i'd been to reception to report our a/c wasn't functioning correctly and also to request an iron and some extra pillow. They didn't have an iron but i got one off my rep and the pillows were brought to the room within 10 mins. Then an engineer came to our room within 15 mins and sorted the air con. Good service in my opinion.

The room itself was excellent. Very clean, good balcony over looking the pool and a good size. I too was a bit pee'd off with havng no fridge and found out on the last day you could hire one from the receiption so just ask when you arrive. The maid came every day and she did not disturb our sleep but waitied for us to leave the room too, which was sometimes 2pm. New towells were brought every day also.

The pool was excellent. Absolutley masive, loads of sunbeds although it was a little intimidating with so many young italian lads. The second pool had no water in when we were there and so the second sun terrace was empty most of the time. The bar was great and very cheap. Just a note on the italians, like the preivous reviewer said, we live in the EU, other countries do holiday and Ibiza is very popular with Italians. There were also Spanish and German people there. I met none which were rude or nasty or did anything to spoil our holiday. Lets put it one way, the italian 18-30's are much much better behaved than having a hotel full of english 18-30's.

I travelled half board and found the restaurant ok. Nothing brilliant though. Breakfast was alternated between sausage and bacon with eggs, tomato and mushroom on every day as well as toast, coissant (sp), cereal, ham and cheese. Tea, coffee and fruit juice were also included. In the evening it was different things every night. One thing to note is you have to buy a drink in the evening. Some of the other nationalities were all inclusive so got there drinks free.

The noise in your room was minimal, only what you expect from a hotel. We were right above the pool area and they did have a DJ on playing all different music from about 11am and it was loud but we accepted it as it was our fault we were in bed so late.

The location is good. Bora bora and Space are within 10-15 min walk. Ibiza town is further and i would suggest a taxi for only 10euro. Pacha, El Divino, Amnesia and Privilege are all within a short taxi and should cost no more than 12 euro. ~
San An will cost you around 20-25 euro.

The beach is litterally accross the road. A lovely quiet part of Playa Den Bossa beach with sunbeds (which we never paid for as no one came round) Bora Bora is further down and even further down is a part of the beach the hotel had an offer on sunbeds and a drink.

All the restaurents near by were good. Everything from burgers, kebabs to tapas and salads and even burger king, KFC, pizza hut and Mcdonalds. When we missed breakfast the Bull Tavern (not bull bar) is 5 minute walk along the beach towards bora bora and this was very cheap and excellent qaulity food. 4.50 for a jumbo breakfast with tea or orange. Pints were buy 1 get 1 free.

The only down side of the location for us was that it was a nightmare to get a taxi at sunset and after midnight. I'm talking waiting 45 mins then nearly having a fight with everyone else whos waiting. Even if the hotel ring one its a waiting game until a cab comes to drop soemone off. Waiting on the road was hit and miss sometimes one would be there other times you never saw one and ended up back by the reception. The reasoin is the hotel is in between two taxi ranks so they are either taken or on the way back to the rank which is full of people.

I would go back to this hotel. It was very nice, big and clean. The italian thing didn't bother me. We have an ace week and would recommend this to any young couple who want a relaxing day but clubbing night.

I can see why there are so many mixed reviews for this one. It all depends on expectations I think. So rather than say it's good or bad, to try and help anyone trying to get a picture of this place, I will try and paint one:

Italians? Yes, there are heaps. We are living in Europe people and I don't recall Italians having a bad reputation. This is an Island in the Med. so expect people other than English. But for those Brits who simply can't stand anyone else's company, go stay in San Antonio. Chav city as it is also known.

Youngsters? Yes, the average age would be below 25. I am well above this and did not feel out of place as I was there to party too. It is more like a hostel in feel than a hotel, so if you can't stand young people, spring for the extra stars and go 3 or 4 star hotels near-by.

Rooms - Basic but a fair size. No fridge though which I didn't like. Meant buying water all the time . Very clean and in good order surprisingly. Good size balcony with drying rack.

Staff - Rude and couldn't care less. First time I have ever had someone at reception sigh and shake their head when i asked for another electronic room key because I left mine in the room (yes on purpose so the air-con would keep running). But it is only a 2 star.

Location - Excellent as it is not quite in Playa Den Bossa, but more toward Ibiza town. So becomes walking distance to both. It is close to Space (the best club in my opinion) and Bora Bora.

This place is not fantastic but had a few things going for it. I wouldn't stay here again but only because I like a bit of luxury. The people I was travelling with are more for spending less on accommodation and were happy with this place.

Having read the reviews before we were due to go we didnt know what to expect. On arrival it didnt take long to realize that we were in the minority (ENGLISH SPEAKING). About 90% of the guests were ITALIAN, 18-30 age group (WHO ALL LOVED THEMSELVES) wore sunglasses to brekie, in the pool and probably in bed!!!!!!!!. All in all they were well behaved. We were staying on a half board basis. The food was better than expected good variety every day & different menu each nite. The rooms were small & basic but kept clean by the maids each day & towels changed when needed. The hotel staff were friendly although it took a little time for them to understand us. Hotel was a short walk to the beach and resort centre. For sun lovers there was no need to be down early to get a sun lounger as the Italians didnt seem to rise until the afternoon. I was disappointed that the hotel didnt have English speaking entertainment & was not for famlies, but all in all we still enjoyed it. Not sure if we would ever go back though!!!!

“nightmare”

Hotel Mare Nostrum

the hotel full of italians who were very rude and arrogant. The breakfast was ok. The staff were not very helpfull when approached to call a taxi for the airport, so had to walk outside the hotel grounds and wait for 30 mins to hail a dodgy taxi. My friend who is 6 months pregnant were waitig for the lift wheh a group of italian men barged in front of us leaving no room for us to get in. I will never return to this hotel again.

Stayed 4 nights in this hotel. Staff were pleasant. True that there were lots of young italians but they seemed to be well behaved and were there to have fun.......(but hey Ibiza is a party island right?)

Value for money, close to Bora Bora beach, clean and fun. Would definitely recommend this hotel and will definitely stay again.
