We just arrived from an amazing trip to Greece which included a stay at Mykonos Palace for 4 nights. If I had to do it again I would have requested a transfer from the airport to the hotel as there are only 30 cabs in Mykonos. We were able to get one but just barely.
The highlight of Mykonos Palace was Francesca. She is very sweet and very helpful always with a smile on her face. So the trouble started when we were shown our room. We were in Greece to celebrate a wedding anniversary and our room had 2 double beds, they were pushed together but this was not helping anything. In addition, there was a heatwave (40C, 100+F) and the AC is the room was BROKEN and had a fabulous view of the street. Needless to say I was upset. I relayed this to the management and they showed my the info from the travel agent. Please beware I personally think that travel agents are very overpriced especially since you can book these hotels online for usually much less, and then to add they write "DOUBLE" on the voucher which I guess translates in Greek to two beds?? They did try to fix the problem, shortly we were shown to the room next door which was akin to a cave, no balcony, one small window, and 1/2 the size of the other room. After paying almost 200/night for these rooms this was not acceptable. I was persistent and then the manager the NEXT morning gave us a room across the street in the adjunct hotel. Much nicer, with a king bed, no view (unless you count the street) but much bigger then the cave. The only problem, the leak in the toilet which kept a constant puddle in bathroom. Never ever had dry feet in this bathroom. After letting them know about the leak, I was informed that it could NOT be fixed and we could change rooms.... again. Finally, I gave up and we lived with the leak.
The beach in Platos Gialos is nice, but it is now up to 10euro to get 2 chairs and an umbrella. We stayed at the pool where it was free. We did have to get there early (before 11) in order to get chairs but overally it was fine. One note, the pool is SALTwater not fresh. I was not a bif fan. The breakfast is so so. Pretty standard fair, again get there earlier because they stop replinishing arounf 1030.
We didn't rent a car, but took the bus which runs like clock-work and is 1.20 euro/ticket (1.50 after 12 am ). We found it very easy o get around. Mykonos town is fun and Jimmys gyros was a highlight. Platos Gialos is definitely more family oriented, lots of kids running around but still nice.
I would definitely recommend the excursion to Delos with a guide. The tickets are about 35 euro/person. Pretty steep but without a guide the ruins look well like ruins and nothing else. There is no real info on the site. Also, know that the trip does leave from the old port in town so you will have to get there first.
With regards to food, the restaurant at the hotel had pretty good food but the drinks are extremely overpriced. 2.50 euro for a can of soda (you can walk literally NEXT door to the market and get the same can for 1 euro). This market was a likesaver. Tons of water and supplies for a very reasonable price.
Overall, Mykonos Palace was okay. I didn't feel it was worth the price.
