Karma is bang on MG Road and has a good restaurant but besides that it doesn't have much to offer. In terns of service, I would rate this hotel a little low as compared to others that I visited in other Indian cities.
Karma is owned by a Marwari (I guess Mr. Rakesh Sarda) who is virtually absent and has handed over this to a local bhutia for managing its day-to-day affairs.
The hotel's restaurant opens only by 8.45 am in the morning and doesn't offer buffet breakfast like others. Moreover, you should not expect a prompt service in the early hours (say like between 6.00 am - 7.00 am). The room service staff is more or less absent or sleeping. If you are with family and kids, make your own arrangement for basic essentials like milk/tea.
It might appear to be a small thing, but considering the fact that the guests need to start early in the morning (to visit places like Yumthang, Nathula, etc.) this becomes an essential facility.
I suggest that anyone thinking of booking a room in this hotel should make sure that the hotel serves you the bed - tea/milk by 6.00 am and the breakfast by 7.30 am.
Also, I observed a big disconnect in Sikkim. The Tourism office gives Permits for places like Yumthang & Nathula even when the roads are closed. So do chk with the local police/army/cab-drivers/locals before you think of venturing on these routes. Otherwise, you would end-up paying 6k - 15k to the local travel agencies/ or tour operators like Karma Hotel.
I would also like to mention that the Manager of this hotel mis-behaved with me when I pin-pointed their shortcomings.
