We booked our short break with EasyJet to include flights and hotel. (Tip - After landing at Gibraltar, cross the border to get your taxi to the hotel.)
Everthing about the hotel was fantastic - the staff were helpful, we requested and were allocated a room overlooking the rock - the whole hotel was spotlessly clean- the breakfast dining area was beatifully laid out and the choice of food was amazing.

The hotel is well within walking distance of Gibraltar but you will get fed up with having to show your passport every time you cross the border.

The local town centre is worth a visit (There was a street market on when we visited on Tuesday morning)

The closest you will get in La Linea to cross to Gibraltar. Just a five-minute walk, and you are over the border.

Lovely room - clean, spacious, Guest Services were alright - though I sensed a preference to speaking in Spanish to guests.

Breakfast was OK - not very much hot food to choose from, but lots of breads, juice and fruit.
Would recommend to anyone looking for an upscale place to stay in La Linea for business there or in Gibraltar.

“Good, clean, spacious rooms with fab views”

Iberostar City Hotel Campo de Gibraltar

1 Apr 2007

Have stayed at this hotel 3 times now in the last year, and it's always been a pleasure!

Great value hotel, at £49 per night for a double room with breakfast.
Marketed primarily as a 'city hotel', for business, rather than a holiday hotel. There is an outdoor pool, but I'm not sure what other facilities there are. It's not really in a touristy area or resort, but only five mins walk away from Gibraltar itself.

The rooms are extremely spacious, modern, and absolutely spotless, with masses of wardrobe space.
Each room has it's own (sometimes huge) balcony, with table and chairs, so you can sit and admire the great view across to Algeciras, and of course the magificent Rock of Gibraltar. Great also to sit and watch the amazing sunsets over the bay.

Only down side of rooms is we've always ended up with two beds pushed together (and made up as separate beds), rather than a double. The beds aren't joined at all, so one of you ends up falling down the ever increasing gap in the middle as the beds slowly slide apart on the tiled floor. So you've got no chance of cuddling up with your partner! ;-)
I don't know if the hotel actually has any double beds?

Take some earplugs if you are a light sleeper, as all rooms have tiled floors. So if the person upstairs is wearing stilettos, and comes in at 2am click clacking in their heels, you'll know about it!

Bathrooms are great, piles of towels and positively sparkling clean. Plenty of space to store all your lotions and potions.
Some rooms have huge walk in shower, some have bath with shower over.
The size of your room seems to depend on whether you're staying for one night or several. Longer stay means bigger room, and balcony big enough to have a party on.

Breakfast is an all you can eat sort of affair, with literally everything you can think of. Usual things like fruits, cereals, sauages, bacon & eggs, pastries, spanish cold meats, cheeses etc but also some rather more 'unusual' dishes, like peas and carrots, and leeks one morning!

We've always found the reception staff to be polite and helpful, although some speak limited English.
The hotel has a free, underground, secure car park for guests.

“Great views of the rock, friendly, and chicken nuggets for breakfast?”

Iberostar City Hotel Campo de Gibraltar

28 Mar 2007

If you like chicken nuggets and chips for breakfast - you've just found the hotel of your dreams.

This hotel is friendly, clean, and reasonable. It's ideally located for trips to Gibraltar and for checking out La Linea (a pretty cool little town with some great tapas bars and a nice vibe)

The room was well appointed, clean, and everything worked. There was a fantastic view of Gibraltar.

One niggle would be the fact there are only two english television channels: national geographic and the neo-Nazi rant fest that is Fox news.

Another niggle is overpriced wireless access - it should be free for guests.

Breakfast... breakfast... it's a comprehesive spread featuring everything from burgers in grease to chicken nuggets to fresh fruit and a continental platter... Can't complain really..

All in all - pretty good. No complaints (apart from indigestion)

Off season rates not a great deal. Taxi ride from train station Algeciras 20-25 euros. Pros: Can walk to Gibraltar, well done modern interior, queen bed (not 2 twins pushed together), safe in room, balcony looking over rock of gibraltar beautiful. Cons: far from algeciras so getting to ferry station to morocco NOT convenient, staff not helpful at all, pay for internet.

NOTE for morocco traveling: many ferry companies run from algeciras, but none at the same time. Every now and then, the ferry leaving "next" will not be an express ride taking 45 mins but instead will take 2.5 hrs! Conveniently, the ticket lady failed to tell us this; luckily we realized it before we left port and ran off the ship to get refund.

NOTE for Gibraltar: The Terrace Restaurant markets a prix-fix menu and a nice view. Good location but windows too dirty to see anything and food was horrendous. Save your money.
