We have just returned from a really nice holiday in Lanzarote
and had the pleasure of staying at Los Pueblos.
We were a little apprehensive as we had originally booked accomodation at another complex but after reading recent reviews we were concerned about the security there and therefore contacted our Travel Agents (Going Places) and changed our booking only a few days before departure, and they booked us into Los Peublos.
The apartments are very secure with double lock doors and locks to bedroom and bathroom doors. Reception was open 24 hours and there is railings all around the complex. We felt extremely safe there.
The rooms are basic but very clean and towels / bedding were changed on a regular basis. We stayed in Apt 227, which had a very private balcony overllooking the sea and was right next to the pool / bar. It was a perfect location - we were very pleased with it.
You are quite a walk away from the main strip but like many others we would walk down there and then get a taxi back up for about 3 euro's. We really enjoyed our walking each day. It was good excercise after eating lots of lovely food!
The pool area was fantastic - we were very impressed by how clean it was kept. The water was very cold when you first got in the pool but you soon got climatized. There were also plenty of sun beds available around the pool, with a lovely shaded terrace area outside the pool / bar area where you could sit with a nice cold beer if it got too hot (which it often did).
As other Reviewers mentioned you did hear the binmen at 8am every morning but this did not bother us! The beds were not the comfiest in the world so we didn't tend to lie in. We also didn't want to lie in because we never really knew what time the cleaners would come round - although from experience they did not go into our apartment until late morning - mid afternoon.
We spent alot of our time on the actual complex or in our apartment while we were there (other than at night when we would go out for a meal and walk down to the main front) as it was just so comfortable and everthing you wanted was there.
A couple of staff members did not speak great english (although this is not a complaint as we cannot speak Spanish) so we got Toast and marmelade for breakfast one day, even though we had ordered a BLT. On the first night the guy at reception was also trying to tell us where the nearest Super Market was - Superamericado in spanish - and I thought he was asking us if we were American!! I replied - no we are British! It was hilarious.
Food is available at the complex from 8am until 10.30pm. It was o.k. but to be honest we would highly recommend that you go down to Marios, which is only a short walk away. (you can see it from the pool area) It serves fantastic breakfasts / evening meals. The fillett steak in mushroom sauce is the best we have ever tasted, and the fish / ribs / pizza's / burgers etc are all top notch. We ended up eating there most of our 2 week holiday, as we tried a couple of restaurants in the Harbour area and although good they were not a patch on Mario's food. The staff were very friendly too.
There is a BBQ at the complex every Wednesday night but while we were there no-one actually booked to attend so I don't think they had them in the end. We would stop by most nights for a night cap and I can say they offer great cocktails for only 5 euros!!
We would also highly recommend the Chinese Restaurant 'Hong Kong 2 Buffett', which is down the main strip (almost at the beginning of the main strip). You pay 6.95 euros and you can eat as much as you like - it was an absolute bargain and the best Chinese we have ever tasted! (and we have been to a few) The food was so fresh and hot both times we went, and there was a good selection. (not 40dishes that they advertise but please do not let this put you off as it really was great food)
While we were there we went to the Aqua Park. I know some people were disappointed but we found it really good fun. It offered good value for money at 24 euros each (incl. transport) and you could easily spend all day there if you wanted.
We also went on the gold catermaran which was also a great day out, and the Rancho Texas Night - both included great food and plenty of drink!
All in all we had a great holiday and would not hesitate to return to Los Peublos / Lanzarote. It was almost perfect!! (there is always room for improvement)
We hope you enjoy it just as much as we have if you decide to stay there.
