Just got back yesterday from a 2 week stay on an All inclusive basis. We have stayed here before about 6 years ago and it was great then. However this time was not so good.
Firstly Pool area is fantastic, always a sunbed available. There are 3 pools including one for small children and one climatized.
Hotel appearance: If you've never been to a 4* hotel, you will probably think this was good. However since our last stay 6 years ago absolutely nothing has been upadated or decorated. The carpets, colours and furniture are all exactly the same. They keep the hotel clean and you get daily maid service 7 days a week. But the hotel is starting to look shabby in places.
If you wander down the promenade and have a nose at the other 4* hotels nearby, they put the Beatriz Playa to shame.
Food: There is a choice in the buffet but it is extremely repetative. It does not cater for children well, although they do have chips available for lunch and dinner. Lots of salad. My 10 year old only lived on chips, cucumber and rolls for these meals for 2 weeks. They have a grill chef cooking 2 different kinds of meat/fish, not the best quality as the steaks were very chewy. Breakfasts were very good with fresh pancakes and eggs cooked by the grill chef in the restaurant. Don't be surprised if the Spanish guests push in front of you in the line, we experienced absolutely no manners from them whatsoever.
Drinks: On all inclusive you get free local alcholic drinks, cocktails on tap (not the best) and for soft drinks all that was on tap (coke, Fanta, Sprite) and bottled water. Good tip; get bottles of water from the Mindana bar in the evening to take back to your room, it saves money buying water from the shops.
Ice cream: Very poor availability. On All inclusive it's available from 4-6pm, given in little cups and one flavour only. You can buy other ice creams/ice lollies for 2 euros each.
Entertainment: The Animation team were great, very friendly and chatty. They provided entertainment activities during the day which they announced around the pool. In the evening in the Mindano bar they provided a mini disco for the kids, where the entertainment team dressed as clowns. Each night they had a different entertainment act including dancers, a magician, a parrot show and reptile show. If you have a photo taken with the latter two, be prepared to pay 10 Euros there and then and they don't allow you to take your own photos. Its not the best quality photo for the money. But ok as snapshot.
Service: I hate to say it but if you're English, you get treated like a 2nd class citizen. Apart from the entertainment team who were great, the rest of the hotel staff would always serve the Spanish and Germans before you even, if you were waiting 1st. We had several incidents of requesting and waiting for cutlery in the restaurant, while the waiting staff would serve drinks to the Spanish who arrived after us. Even when we asked several times, they would still serve us after. On a number of occasions my husband got up and got his own cutlery. We never gave them reason to be like this and always asked politely saying please and thank you in Spanish. But after 2 weeks this service was beginning to get to us
We spoke to around 8 other English families who experienced the same service. You really understand about discrimination. In the hotel we only found one waiter and one barman who were friendly and apologised to us for the Spanish behaviour.
We did make a written complaint but never had a reply.
Overall it didn't spoil our holiday, but this was not what we expected from a 4* hotel.
