“Slightly disappointed - wouldn't rate it 4*”

Beatriz Playa & Spa

24 Jul 2008

My fiance and I (a young couple in our 20s) have just returned from a 7 night half board stay at the Beatriz Playa.

CHECK IN - No problem with check in - there was only one other couple dropped off with us. Very quick and staff spoke good english

ROOM - Clean and spacious however there were a few flaws:
1) The door to the balcony needed repaired - it didn't glide open like it should. You could only pull it open far enough to squeeze through
2) I found the bed very uncomfortable. There were loads of broken springs which left a huge hole in the middle of the matress
3) There was a TV in the room but only 2 english speaking channels - CNN and sky news. I've stayed in other 3* hotels which had BBC, ITV and channel 4. Maybe telly is the last thing people think about on holiday but I like to keep up to date with the soaps and big brother!
There was a card operated safety deposit box which cost 21 euros for the week- no refund on this at the end of our stay.

FOOD - I wasn't impresseed with the cooked breakfast. It didn't matter what time we went, it was always cold. Dinner was ok. There was quite a good variety but got cold very quickly. Dinner mainly consisted of meat which varied from fried chicken, pork chops or steak (a different one each night), salads, chips, paella, meatballs, spaghetti bolognese, fish etc. As we were half board, we swapped some of our dinners to lunches so we could eat out at night. Lunch was much the same as dinner.

STAFF - Reception staff were pleasant, unlike the restaurant staff - the lady who greeted you at the restaurant never smiled once while we were there.

ENTERTAINMENT - All posters in the hotel for evening entertainment were in spanish so we steered well clear of it!

POOL AREA - Very clean and never had any trouble getting a lounger.

RESORT - Matagorda is a beautiful but quiet resort. I wouldn't recommend it for young groups who want to party non-stop. The beach is just across the road from the hotel. There are plenty of shops and bars. You can walk along the sea front to Peurto del Carmen, which is about a 45 minute walk although 5 minutes in a taxi will get you there and costs about 4 euros. Getting a taxi from the hotel is easy, just ask the reception staff and they will call a taxi which will pick you up at the door. Peurto del Carmen is a much larger resort with an abundance of bars, resturants, clubs, shops and casino. The biosfere shopping centre is situated towards the old town end of the resort.

All in all, the hotel itself was nice. They certainly do not cater for British guests. Some of the other guests thought nothing of queue jumping which got quite irritating after a while, they just showed no manners or courtesy towards other guests whatsoever. Despite the minor flaws we made the best of it and enjoyed our holiday but I don't think we'll be returning to the Beatriz Playa.

Beatriz Playa & Spa

22 Jul 2008

Stayed here from the 8th to the 19th of july 2008, got a reasonable deal when i had booked in januray for half board, think it worked out about £670, when we arrived the hotel is pretty from the outside and when you walk in it looks very nice, check in was quick and the staff spoke to us in english, we walked to r room and the room is pretty spacious, furniture could do with a makeover though, only that night we found out the disadvantages of staying there, r room was right below the entertainment which even the most heavy sleeper would most likely find it difficult to get asleep, this music always stops at 12.00 on the dot each night, though if you have to be up early for an excursion it could be a problem, it didn;'t really bother us most nights but i think it could do people with kids who need to get an early night, i must state that on the other side of the hotel it is very quite and i don't know how noisy it is for the rooms that were above us as i stated we were just below were the entertainment was being played... onto the food and the restaurant is quite busy so get down early, the food was ok, not the best not the worst, gets cold very quickly, the sunbeds there is always 1 for someone, the area is very nice, a walk into were the main strip is probably about 40 mins, taxi around 5 euros, the hotel is not far from the airport and a taxi will be around 10 euros, i would also recommend people to try the yellow car-bikes were 2 people pedal r you can get 1's for for people, they call them the limos :) the 2 person 1 is 10 euros for an hour, but if you have small kids you can put them in the front basket.. the texas rancho night is a good night as is the gran tour..

“English - then this is not for you !”

Beatriz Playa & Spa

11 Jul 2008

I have travelled to many countries and experienced different types of holidays but I expect to get the best if I am paying for it.

At first glance this looks to be a beautiful hotel.
It has 4 stars so you expect a decent holiday when you pay a 4 star price.

1) The staff - majority of staff were very friendly and helpful.
The same Reception lady forgot to give us our ALL INCLUSIVE wristbands and then messed up our booking and prices for a trip to the Teguise market.

2) The rooms - very spacious and spotlessly clean - shower worked perfectly but a glass screen would be better than a shower curtain which needed replacing.

3) The pool - always sunbeds available no matter what time of day. Pool was cleaned daily and was always left clean.

4) The Buffet restaurant - absolute chaos and extremely noisy ! Like a cattle market inside, no system, and the staff at the back of the restaurant were quite rude. Cockroach was found in the cereal by another guest staying at the same time. We found caterpillar in the lettuce. Choice of food was very minimal and the stands were not tidied up during meal times. If you like chicken then you'll be OK. The menu each day stated a theme but it always looked and tasted the same. If you sit outside it is a much better atmosphere but you are still eating the same food. Why - do you have to have a meal card ticked off at each mealtime ? We were wearing wristbands, is this not enough to prove we are fully paid up members ?

5) The Burger Bar - only open Fri/Sat/Sun 12-4pm - shame because you could get a variation on your chicken in here.

6) The Pizzeria - lovely ! Lovely atmosphere and food - only allowed 2 visits each week. We only found that out during our 2nd week by chance. Why can't the buffet area be of the same standard ?

7) The Entertainment - if you are English forget it, they don't cater for you and don't include you. You are made to feel unwelcome and they make jokes about you in Spanish.

8) Take a look at their website but the photographs are old and it isn't like that now in certain area's.

9) The Spa - really worth a visit - very relaxing but feel it should have been free to paying guests.

Overall :
English people will feel very uncomfortable in this hotel. It is full of Spanish people from the mainland. They are extremely rude and do not believe in standing in a queue to await their turn. I wouldn't recommend you stay here unless you have a very thick skin and wish to eat out each day.
Very expensive mistake made .... try the San Antonio instead. It may only be Half Board and more expensive but it is well worth it. The service and food is excellent !! I have stayed there 3 times and that's where I will be going back to next time !

“Lovely hotel,poor service”

Beatriz Playa & Spa

We have just returned from our stay in the Beatriz Playa. Over all it was an average holiday. My fiancee and my 11 month old son travelled on the 17th of May to join my parents who had travelled on the 10th.
On arriving at the hotel on the bus first impressions were good.As it was late at night the hotel looked very impressive lit up.We met my parents on getting off the bus and they brought us to reception, where our problems began.
When we booked the holiday we requested a ground floor room due to having a young baby with us.The girl at reception knew nothing about this and said the best she could do was a second floor room either in the morning. We then recived our room cards. As we left reception my father asked us had we been given our all inclusive wristbands which they had from their first week.I went back to the girl and requestes these but the reciptionist told me we hadnt booked all nclusivece we made a fuss over it she then went and checked her booking forms and came back laughing saying she had made a mistake. We then made our way to the lift and headed for the room accompanied by my mother who had to show us the way as we were given no directions from the reciptionist. On arriving at the room the door was in a bad way with the paint hanging off the door and very shabby looking. We then went into the room which was lovely but without the cot we had requested.Just then a Spanish worker strolled in the door with the cot, opened it up looked at us and walked back out again. In fairness to the hotel they had left three meals of cold meet and salad for us with bottled water, red wine and a selection of fruit. No kettle in room though which we needed for the babys bottle in the morning.
We went back to reception but were told that they were out of kettles but they could give us hot water there from nine in the morning.
After theevents of our first night things did improve after wards. The hotel itsself was lovely and the decor in the reception areas was lovely. The staff in the hotel were mostly friendly and always had time to stop and play for a minute with our son.

FOOD:The food in the restuarant was ok.Had a good mix for all meals but it was a pity the burger bar and pizzeria only opened on weekends

DRINK:If you like a pint of beer then bring your own glass as they only havea hand full in the hotel. If you get one at the start of the night hold on to it otherwise you will be drinking glasses all night

SERVICE:As i already said the staff are friendly but the waiting time at the poolside bar and restuarant is a bit long and they serve non all inclusive guests first also the ice creams are locked in the fridge and you have to wait for the waiters to open them

Entertainment:Highlight of the hotel.Loads to do during the day and the mini disco nightly at 8.30 is very good for children.Nightly entertainment was good but more for the spanish crowd than the Irish or English.

OVERALL:After the first night hic ups it turned out to be an enjoyable holiday although possibly more staff behind the bars would help and at times we felt they were treating you better if you wernt all inclusive

“Let Down!”

Beatriz Playa & Spa

We recently returned from a trip to the Beatriz Playa in Matagorda Lanzarote. The hotel and grounds were lovely, clean well maintained and welcoming. We decidced to go all inclusive as we had our 4 year old with us and thought it'd be easier. We were wrong-the food in buffet restaurant for all meals was ok but very repeatative. You could have lunch at the pool bar with limited selection, water was from a little cooler at the bar which was warm, ice-cream was locked in a freezer which you had to queue to ask for it to be opened then wait for one of rude men to open it. We had ice-cream once! Service at the pool bar was dreadful staff were not much better either. In my opinion we were treated with contempt for being all-inclusive guests. From reception to bar the staff had a lot to learn, they should take lessons from the cleaners. We ended up spending more money than intended as we ate outside the hotel some nights. One member of staff insulted my mother to her face, another made a mistake at the dinner table which at breakfast next morning we were held and questioned over which was very embarassing. We will not be returning to that hotel or going all-inclusive again.
