“really, wheelie Great”

Hyde Park Lane Bungalows,
Playa de los Pocillos
Lanzarote

After my recent, 1 week stay (January 07) here
I can recommend Hyde Park Lane Bungalows, Playa de los Pocillos, Lanzarote.

The resort is built on a very, very slight slope (don’t worry it is very “slight”) could easily get around on my own. (some paths are narrower than others, not under 1 metre, though). During my stay I saw a few wheelie users, which is a good sign, that access is good.
The staff, here (as on the whole island) are only too willing to help, when you need it (one even put my jumper on me when it got a bit chilly)
Some bungalows do have one step, but many are level (patio tiles can be slippery when wet). I was in bungalow 54, at the end of the site. It was very quite here (I presume closer bungalows will have noise from The pool or passing holiday makers.

My bungalow had level access from the path via the patio to the door
Door width (front) 28 inches (threshold 1 inch) / (Bedroom) 27 ¼ inches / (Bathroom) 27 ¼ inches
Over bath shower (mixer tap).

There is a supermarket on-site, but it is under ground, down a very steep slope, best to ask somebody to go for you- or go into town.

Pool has access from restaurant (side) via steps (4), flat access is about half way around, between the bungalows (this access is not sign posted, so keep an eye out for it!!)

The HPLB has a good menu or buffet, from its restaurant, or there is the pool bar, that serves bar snacks. Quality of food is good.

When going to anywhere on the island, the pavements, are a bit lacking in “grip” at times, being a tiled surface. Sometimes their maintenance is not 100% and some “kerbs” are on the high side, ramps can be steep.

“spotless apartments, great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2007

When I was researching for this holiday I found reviews on this site very useful so I thought it only right that I added my contribution.
My boyfriend and I went here for a last minute break in April 2006. We were very impressed with these apartments, they were spotlessly clean, the cleaner came in once a day, bringing fresh flowers each day which was a nice touch. The individual apartments are very private and well equipped with self catering facilities.
The only channel shown on English on the television was CNN, this was fine with us but it would not suit you if you like to watch TV while you are away. We invested in a radio, there are some good music stations on the island so those kept us occupied.

The pool area was clean, and there was no shortage of beds. This complex is in a smaller town, it is about 20 minutes walk into Puerto Del Carmen. It was quiet when we were there in April but there is no shortage of bars and restuarants. We took a taxi to the Old Town and the Harbour a couple of nights, I would highly recommend that as a great night out, there are good shops there too [not as tacky as Puerto Del Carmen, beware of the pushy Sales men in the electronics shops there] so it is definately worth the taxi fair [less that 10euro I think]

I would have no hesitation in recommending these apartments. We booked through Thomsons, and I was very impressed with their service. The only negative I would say is that don't have high expectations for the Tennis Courts - we took our rackets with the hope of a few matches but the facilities at the apartments were not great so we only made it there once.

“quiret area”

On arriving late in the evening was feeling hungray by then, resturant done us some food(me and hubby) were helpful, found fst floor apartment very clean we were in number 166, not overlooked and also had sun terrace at the back of the apt but had to get over a very small wall, also usual balacny at front, sun all day on either side, bed's uncomftable, take a tin opener as there isn't one in the apartment(read other reviews so i was prepared) there isn't any thing you can buy to eat if arrive late at night so take milk to at least get you a hot drink to tie you over till the morning, restaurent close at 10pm although they did as i said do us small meal, and we bought water till supermarket openend in the morning, it is very windy most of the time and the branches from the plants outside will keep you awake scratching on the window, pool was quiret although the one near us wasn't in use, loosing water was told so had to use the one near resturant which was ok as not very busy, nice and clean but pool very cold, we only went for a week.
10 min to beach but no fasillites once got there, large dark sanded beach, had to walk to get bus to anywhere else but you can walk into Porto Del Carman which is next door, 20 min walk then there is lot of night life there and they have better beach, can get bus or taxi.
I would go again to the Hyde Park Bungalows, but there is a lot of walking to do as the bunbalows are in a quiret area.

“Fantastic location and lovely accomodation”

We booked this location through Thomsons for about £550 for both, self catering, it looked a good deal and it certainly was. Having never been to the Canary Islands before we were concerned that it may be a "rowdy binge drink" type location but were pleasently surprised. Clearing customs at Arricife airport was swift, and we were soon at the complex's reception desk, 5 minutes later we were in our bungalow, spotlessly clean and well equipped, the complex must have about 100 such units, ours was at the end of a block near a quiet road, (number 56) and was well away from the pool but handy to hop over the low boundary wall for the short cut on foot to the beach, about 5 minutes away. All areas of the complex were clean, all of the staff were friendly and helpful. There is a restaurant on site we had the buffet meal three nights, first two were good, not too keen on the meatballs. Evening entertainment at the complex a bit lacking, just a guy on a keyboard singing mainly Spanish songs which a lot of locals and Spanish guests in their 50's come to to dance, but they all enjoy it and perhaps it's just not our cup of tea. Supermarket on site is good but cheaper 5 minutes away at the Spar shop, next to there is a lovely bar/restaurant Arepera la avenida, run by Jose and Marie, very welcoming and lovely food at reasonable prices. 10 minutes walk from there you are in Puerto Del Carmen, mainly bars, clubs, pubs and restaurants, a bit too commercialised really but each to their own. In summary, Playa de los Poccilos is more suited to an older clientelle, 40 - 65 years, but the streets are clean, the people very friendly, the beach is quiet, clean and spacious, we would definitely stay there again, and cannot wait to go there again.

“Hyde Park Lane”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 May 2006

We stayed at the Hyde Park Lane bungalows for a week just before Easter.
The complex is charming, with forever flowering ibiscus everywhere. The surroundings are very clean, and the flats are cleaned almost everyday. There is a supermarket within the complex that opens late and that cater for all your needs. There are 2 swimming pools, and although the water is not heated, I found it very warm. Beach is within walking distance, as is a Spar supermarket that is better stocked and cheaper than at the complex. The kitchen contains a kettle, microwave oven and toaster.
The negative points are that there is very little sound insulation and if you happen to have a family with young children above you, you will be awaken by the sound of crying children every morning (Guess how I know...). The boiler is tiny, and we struggled to get 2 hot showers out of it every morning.
A word of advice, do not keep the fresh flowers that decorate the flat when you arrive, they will draw ants! Once we put them outside, the ants disappeared.
We would recommend hiring a car, as there are many things to see around the island (Volcanoes, Cesar Manrique buildings, ...)
Overall and for what we payed (£688 for the 2 of us self catering), this accomodation represents good value and we will certainly consider it when going back next year.
