Date of stay: June 5th to 12th, 2008
Type of room: standard apartment
The hotel: nice, clean and well maintained, it is not a luxury hotel (at least not the standards apartments), so if it is luxury you’re looking for – go somewhere else. As a matter of fact, go to Cassandra, here in Sithonia is a little bit of a bore. On the other hand, if you're looking for peace and quiet, this is your place.
The room: rooms are nice, clean, housekeeping cleans every day and they change the sheets every 3 days (at least on my stay). As I previously stated, standards rooms are not luxurious, but they are OK. The shower is very, very small, as a matter of fact, there is no way you can shower without spilling water all over the floor, thus, creating a mess because when you go out of the bathroom there is no rug. But hey, housekeeping sweeps the floor everyday
There are basic kitchen utilities (forks, knives, spoons and dishes), a refrigerator and a stove.
The TV is only greek channels
The restaurant and the food: I was on a half board basis, the food was good, I can’t complain, a little variation would have been appreciated, but it was generally OK. The personnel at the restaurant is very friendly (waiters are Macedonians, housekeeping - Bulgarians) and, contrary to what most of the information in the internet states, most of the Greeks speak English, at least at an acceptable level.
The “room facilities”: everything that comes in the web site is true: the umbrellas and sun beds at the beach and the pool are free, AC (I did not use it, the weather was cold), daily cleaning, etc. With one exception: the internet is NOT free! In the website it is listed as if it is a free, well, it is not. Keep in mind that I called before coming and the girl at the reception confirmed that it was free. When I arrived, it turned out that it is not. The reply to my question why was I told it is free was “but it is only 5 Euro!” My numerous attempts to explain that it is not about the price, but about the fact that I was lied to or miss informed where futile. Anyways, I spoke with the manager and he told me he would check, after that I had several hours of internet but the whole service went down (the internet is trough satellite and there is a hotspot wi fi). Bottom line: in theory the wi fi is 5 Euros per 48 hours, there is a cable on the reception which you can hook up to your laptop and it’s supposedly free… If you depend on internet connection, I suggest you check this matter vey well before coming. Even when the wi fi is up, the speed is horrible.
Pool area: nice, well maintained and pleasant, there is a beach and pool bar, one coffee is 2 Euros.
The beach: the beach strip is about 100 meters from the hotel, umbrellas and sun beds are free of charge and there is even a small bar at the beach. The sand is a little bit rocky but its ok, if you don't like this particular beach you can always go to another one, the beaches are properly marked and you can exit from the main road and find a beach suitable for yourself.
PS 1: Keep in mind that the sing on the main road pointing the hotel easy to pass by, it is low in the bushes and the color blends with them, so watch out after the “tristiniki” sign, in 30 seconds you’ll see the hotel sign (refer to the “driving directions” section of the hotel’s web site).
PS 2: Bring whatever anti mosquito protection you can get your hand on! Greek mosquitos are nasty! (there is a swamp in the near by vicinity of the hotel, so you can imagine…)
