Had a weeks stay at the Theoxenia.
You think at first that it will ne noisy as it is so close to town and the windmills but this was not to be the case. The hotel is situated just behind the famous windmills which are a big attraction for tourists but once in the grounds or your room you would never know.
We booked through Olympic with independent flights so not transfers but the hotel were happy to send us a car to the airport and back again.
The serving staff were mostly Hungarian and they were absolutely lovely- nothing was too much trouble for them and we enjoyed the complimentary cocktail before the breeze out bar shut around the pool every evening.
The breakfast wasn't as nice I had expected it to be. The fruit on offer was out of a tin but with fresh various melons and all the usual. I have had better in less star hotels to be honest.
The first half of the week felt like the hotel was only half full which meant around the pool was beautiful. By the end of the week it was def full and a little loud, reflecting Mykonos as a whole anyway. We had a garden view room that was nice albeit a little small but if we had problems they were sorted out very quickly.
Overall a really nice stay. the photos of the hotel that have been put on by visitors reflect the hotel quite well.

We arrived early and were welcomed with a cocktail while the staff worked out getting us into our room early.

We were very happy with the size of the room. We were seaside in a beautiful, spacious room with hardwood floors and great amenities. (i'm a clean freak and this room was a excellent!) The hotel staff is extremely helpful. The breakfast was great! If you need to workout the gym has what you need. We were really happy with how close this property was to the nightlife and shopping. We spent our days lounging by the pool and walked into town to pick up a gyro for lunch.

The staff was very nice, helped us with reservations and recommendations and made our stay comfortable.

We would go back tomorrow if we could.

“Awesome Property, Inconsistent Service”

Overall, I agree with the positive reviews of Theoxenia. It's a gorgeous hotel that stands out among the many hotels in Mykonos for its "resort-like" quality (its gorgeous pool, landscaping, ocean-facing fitness center, etc.) My partner and I stayed a week at the Theoxenia and were upgraded to a Superior room with a terrace that provided great sunset views. In general, service was good. Reception did make some spot-on restaurant suggestions and took care of making the reservations. We also were greeted with welcome drinks and a complimentary bottle of wine and basket of fruit, which were nice touches. My only complaint is that the service (albeit friendly) has some kinks to iron out. Everyday there was some petty annoyance: our driver didn't pick us up from boat forcing us to scramble for a cab in a busy and sweltering port; we had to wait for beach towels for almost a half hour before we could head to beach and again at night; our housekeeper forgot to give us soap one day and reception seemed dumbfounded as to how to get us some; the next day the housekeeper didn't replace the shower curtain in our room and finding a replacement took several phone calls and a visit from the hotel manager; it took asking the manager directly for a votive candle for the room's incense burner in order for one to appear; breakfast is supposed to begin at 7:30 but food isn't out on the buffet table until 8am. I wish that the attention to detail in the hotel's design was better reflected in its service.

“Theoxenia = Fantastic!”

Mykonos Theoxenia

26 Jun 2007
4/4 found this review helpful

My boyfriend and I recently returned from a week in Mykonos where we stayed at The Mykonos Theoxenia and we loved it!

We always stay in good hotels when travelling so we are not easily pleased but this place was perfect in every way imaginable.

Firstly I have to mention the location. The Theoxenia is perfectly located with stunning views over the crystal clear sea while still being just a 5 minute walk to the restaurants, bars and shops of Mykonos Town.

As you may already know, the hotel was built in the 1960's and was reburbished in 2005 and the retro feel was perfectly preserved. With it's bare stone walls and brightly coloured furniture and artwork the reception and and bar area give a taste of whats to come throughout.

The rooms are minimal without being stark and the beds were so comfy that we almost didn't want to get out of them in the mornings.

We booked a superior room for our stay but when we arrived we were shown to a standard room. Although this room was lovely we were obviously dissapointed so we spoke to the front of house manager who assured us we would be moved as soon as another room was made available. We were moved 3 days later to a huge room that more than made up for the original dissapointment.

We were thinking of not bothering to mention the so called 'mix up' with the room but after a previous post mentions exactly the same situation we felt we had to talk about this. In no way will it affect our overall rating of the hotel but I think the managers need to stop overbooking and fobbing certain guests off with rooms less than they are paying for!

As I said, the first room was nice enough but the second room was outstanding. It had a massive king size bed with glass walls between the bedroom and the bathroom which had seperate shower and bath and a seating/dressing area led to a balcony with fab views of the Pool and Sea.

The rooms were kept spotlessley clean and there was turndown service if required. Ample storage space was available and the amount of lamps and lights together with the cd player and mirrors made getting ready to go out stress free and fun.

The furnishing in the bedrooms were bright in colour and good quality. The aircon was also welcome relief as the temperature was exceeding 30 degrees plus everyday.

The pool area is really nice with plenty of sunbeds and parasols available. Pool towels are provided and you can borrow them to use at the beach if you need. The pool boy Manni is very friendly and easy on the eye!

There are regular drink rounds and the staff are happy to help you with anything. During the day staff circulate with sorbets and ice cold flannels. There are also comfortable shaded sofas dotted around to enjoy the amazing sunsets whilst sipping a drink (We recomend a medium Frappe with milk!).

The breakfast buffet was very good and had everything that you could want from pastries, cereals and fruit through to bacon and eggs etc.... We never ate at the main restaurant (because there was never any other guests in there) but did have lunch around the pool several times, the menu was the usual things like Sandwiches/Burgers/Pasta etc Prices were around 10 Euro for a club Sandwich, 4 Euro for a Soda and 5 Euro for a Beer. And everything we tried was fresh and of good quality.

To sum up our stay the staff, surroundings, accomadation and location were second to none. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else when we return to Mykonos - we just hope that next time we get the room we booked upon arrival!

Check out our trip report for our thoughts and opinions on the rest of our holiday!

We visited the Theoxenia in May of this year - we think this is one of the best months to visit as its not too hot, not very busy and flowers everywhere.

We echo the positive points of many reviewers and would happily recommend the hotel as a great place to stay.

Do visit the hotel's website as it is very accurate and covers most things you need to know.

Pros: Stylish, great position, friendly staff, great food
Cons: Car park at the front is ugly, bit pricey, usual greek foibles!
