My boyfriend and I recently returned from a week in Mykonos where we stayed at The Mykonos Theoxenia and we loved it!
We always stay in good hotels when travelling so we are not easily pleased but this place was perfect in every way imaginable.
Firstly I have to mention the location. The Theoxenia is perfectly located with stunning views over the crystal clear sea while still being just a 5 minute walk to the restaurants, bars and shops of Mykonos Town.
As you may already know, the hotel was built in the 1960's and was reburbished in 2005 and the retro feel was perfectly preserved. With it's bare stone walls and brightly coloured furniture and artwork the reception and and bar area give a taste of whats to come throughout.
The rooms are minimal without being stark and the beds were so comfy that we almost didn't want to get out of them in the mornings.
We booked a superior room for our stay but when we arrived we were shown to a standard room. Although this room was lovely we were obviously dissapointed so we spoke to the front of house manager who assured us we would be moved as soon as another room was made available. We were moved 3 days later to a huge room that more than made up for the original dissapointment.
We were thinking of not bothering to mention the so called 'mix up' with the room but after a previous post mentions exactly the same situation we felt we had to talk about this. In no way will it affect our overall rating of the hotel but I think the managers need to stop overbooking and fobbing certain guests off with rooms less than they are paying for!
As I said, the first room was nice enough but the second room was outstanding. It had a massive king size bed with glass walls between the bedroom and the bathroom which had seperate shower and bath and a seating/dressing area led to a balcony with fab views of the Pool and Sea.
The rooms were kept spotlessley clean and there was turndown service if required. Ample storage space was available and the amount of lamps and lights together with the cd player and mirrors made getting ready to go out stress free and fun.
The furnishing in the bedrooms were bright in colour and good quality. The aircon was also welcome relief as the temperature was exceeding 30 degrees plus everyday.
The pool area is really nice with plenty of sunbeds and parasols available. Pool towels are provided and you can borrow them to use at the beach if you need. The pool boy Manni is very friendly and easy on the eye!
There are regular drink rounds and the staff are happy to help you with anything. During the day staff circulate with sorbets and ice cold flannels. There are also comfortable shaded sofas dotted around to enjoy the amazing sunsets whilst sipping a drink (We recomend a medium Frappe with milk!).
The breakfast buffet was very good and had everything that you could want from pastries, cereals and fruit through to bacon and eggs etc.... We never ate at the main restaurant (because there was never any other guests in there) but did have lunch around the pool several times, the menu was the usual things like Sandwiches/Burgers/Pasta etc Prices were around 10 Euro for a club Sandwich, 4 Euro for a Soda and 5 Euro for a Beer. And everything we tried was fresh and of good quality.
To sum up our stay the staff, surroundings, accomadation and location were second to none. We wouldn't consider staying anywhere else when we return to Mykonos - we just hope that next time we get the room we booked upon arrival!
