Just returned after 2 weeks in Cala Nova, probably one of the worst holidays in years.Food is very bland and o.k..if you like pork or chicken,My wife & myself were taken ill after 3 days and confined to bed for 2 days with I believe was servere food poisoning but Thomsons Rep said it was probably a virus brought in by guests and carried through air conditioning to other guests. There was at least 70/80 guests taken ill and after 2 days without food i was still ill for another 4 days. This hotel was highly recommended by my brother from 3 years ago but after speaking to people who had returned from between 6-12 times all said it has gone downhill very fast and would not be returning again, the entertainment in 14 days consisted of 1 parrot show, one acrobatic trio, and 2 lots of dancers (none very professional) and the bar prices were the dearest we found in the area, the safety deposit boxes were expensive at 56 euros for 14 days. One lady we met who was taken very ill wrote a letter to the Manager whilst we were there and He didn't even have the decency to answer or even acknowledge her complaints. The animation team were very inexperenced and it was just bowles, ping -pong,darts,all the time and they didn't have a clue even how to work the kareoke and t.v. eqipment.I think that the only thing 3 star about this hotel is the location on the beach.

We have been to this hotel for the past 10 years and this year it was awful. The food was fine and the accomodation was the usual standard although there has been no maintenance done at this hotel for years. There are holes in the patio around the pool that have been there for more than 3 years. The chairs in the lounge are uncomfortable and lumpy . The entertainment this year was the most dissapointment. the annimation team was "led" by Christian who was useless. He pranced about in the shorts and Tee shirt and he even had a whistle but took no part in the organising or playing any of the games. Bastian and Melka were good and tried their best but were given no help by Christian . In the past the team have put on shows in the evening but all there was this year were a couple of bingo sessions and a quiz which was very odscure musical tunes to guess. The outside entertainment is usually very good but this year it was terrible. Two or three decent acts and the rest were not wotrh watching. It is a shame that such a great hotel with lots of returning guests should suffer because the management have chosen not to invest in decent staff and entertainment. There will lots of guests that usually meet every October that will be going elsewhere next year

just returned from this hotel. Bit disappointed in the pool. Hotel was clean and food not too bad but not what we expected. Thought this was a 4 Star but nothing near it. Went here for my 50th birthday with 78 yr. old mother and 11 yr old son.
Nothing much for son to do and mother could not get into pool and ladders only on side of pool making it inaccessible for old person.
Entertainment was terrible...............................
Nice walk into Es Cana if you are able but taxi costs only 5 Euros.
Booked Water park with Thomsons but note put through door saying it had been cancelled due to lack of interest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We were interested!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Staff friendly and towels changed everyday.
Took out drinks all inclusive which was 13 euros and cheaper for children which was worth it as it includes tea and coffee and wine with meals.
All in all not bad but would probably not go back to this hotel but nothing too bad to say about it, been in worse!!!!

Arrived at hotel late evening, i always worry about the hotel and read the reviews. Didn't regonise this hotel from what had been written. OK its not a modern boutique hotel, but it is bright clean and airy. Fantastic air con in lobby and rooms.
Had e mailed hotel and asked for sea view rooms on higher floor as had heard about bottle collection at 7am.
Could n't of asked for more , fantastic with 2 girls next door it was beautiful.
Food at breakfast was great fresh ommelette made to order or english, cereal, fresh fruit or continental. OK I suppose it was the same nearabout every day but we varied it over the 2 weeks, they also did ham and cheese toastie or pancakes on alternative days as well.
Dinner was always loads to chhose salad with cold meat fish etc. Always a roast carvery joint , pasta , fresh fish and steaks or chops cooked to order and various othe items, not so much aimed at toddlers though. So again it was the same some times over the 2 weeks but I just had different things.

The entertainment team especially Cheryl, thanks so much to her she made our hols, worked hard to provide the fun wiht plenty to do in the day for kids, teens and adults. Evening needed working on though I think.

Pool was great although normal rush at 7. 30 for sun beds during the 2nd week. Beach fantastic, and resort very english.
Although we enjoyed a walk there in the evening, and could let our 16 old with her friends without too much worry.

Thomson rep a waste of time, and trips disatrous but thats another issue.

Had inclusive after first 5 days for drinks and saved a fortune, definately have a walk over to shop for baguettes.

On the whole fab time, we all cried to come home especially kids , the eldest still sulking as we touched down in UK.

Fantastic value for money but if you want 5 star you will have to pay more for it !!!

Just returned from 2 weeks holiday with our 14 yr old son. When booking our holiday this year in Ibiza we were short of choice (booked late) and relied on the reports of this hotel. Normally dont stay in 3 star - but pleasantly surprised.

The last 2 reports below are pretty accurate and the comments on paying in advance for drinks is ok value if you drink a fair bit between you - although local wine at dinner and water comes with the deal. The comments on the camping shop were spot on and baguettes are great value (well packed and made as you wait)

The hotel - positive points are that people go back year after year (says a lot). Location by beach is great (watch for jelly fish now and again when theres been strong winds). Rooms are cleaned daily and cleanrs do a good job. Room size with 3 people in was tight but fine (you only sleep there really). The 3rd bed is a proper bed also. You can hire a safe which is always a good tip. Choice in restaurant is varied and the quality is fine (yes does get repetative but several options available each day) and breakfast is more than enough for a normal person. Certainly we never went hungry or felt hard done by. Service in there was also good and staff (not youngsters) were very polite and helpful (dont hear than in UK often). Entertainers were good fun and Cheryl and Bastian work very hard as did Christian - cant moan about that at all - and games are simple for everyone and chance to meet people. Reception were fine and generally good - didnt use rep but dont do the trips either. Hotel was not rowdy and I hardly heard any bad language. Kids (and adults) there were well behaved throughout as was in keeping with hotel atmosphere. For families it was a fun place, respectful and located well. Es Cana was about 10 mins walk (seemed a long way but wasnt). Its not in a noisy location at all. It was a very family atmosphere.

Less than positive perhaps - pool is relatively small and quite deep for two thirds and a devil to climb out of unless you use steps (theres a lip around the pool whcih makes it awkward and water level if a way off it). Sun beds not as mad to get although 7.30am saw many getting their hot spots and by 8.30 most beds had gone on busy days. Hotel stopped people going out before 7.30 most days for beds. Sun loungers can be a pain as they dont have adjustable backs (no great hardship really). Pool fairly clean but some days not well cleaned around the perimeter. Rooms didnt have fridge (cant even hire) which would have been useful. Oh and yes the binmen do come at 7am every day (see room tips below). Air conditioning was ok but you needed the ceiling fan on sometimes (but was a bit noisy - but not a problem really). Entertainment was so so in the evenings.

A few other tips (only my point of view of course).
When booking always ask for high floor (as surrounding trees are high) and try to avoid rooms overlooking car park (bin men !!) or above restarurant (noisy air conditioning). There are 5 floors and room numbers that are x00 to about x30 will have one or the other (odd numbers tend to face car park) whereas higher numbers are nearer the sea and better views. I emailed the hotel before i went and they did give me a higher room - worth asking.

Dont be afraid to use buses - and get timetables from reception. One bus goes to airport from just below hotel and stops at Santa Eualia which is a nice place to go in the evening. Bus prices are 1.25 euro per person from Es Cana to S. Eualia and takes about 10 mins. Taxi will cost about 8 euro.
Buses to Ibiza Town are ok and trip takes about 25 mins from Santa Eualia (you cant go straight there from Es Cana). If using buses dont be too polite - as locals arent and queues dont work when buses arrive.

Overall I would say it was a relaxing place to be, the people we met were great and it was a family environment (for big kids like me - and smaller kids also). I dont regret going there at all. Whilst I probably wouldnt return (as rarely I do) many many others have. I am fussy and dont regret this choice at all.

Hope this helps (sorry I wrote so much)
