We had a huge, high ceilinged room, with a large beautiully tiled bathroom. Wonderful linens and all very clean. Gerben, Elke and their daughter all made us feel welcome and at home. It was great visiting with them and finding out all about living in Progresso and the surrounding area. Gerben is a chef, so he has built a commercial kitchen and offers a regular breakfast as well as the continental included in the price. They also offer dinner Tuesday through Saturday and the food was absolutely excellant. The backyard with the pool was a wonderful oasis after a morning spent exploring the surrounding area. Staying at Yahkunah really made the trip to Progresso a highlight of our stay in Mexico.

Hotel Yakunah is a small intimate hotel in Progresso Mexico which served as our home base while driving in the Yucatan. We found it to be very friendly, quiet at night , and clean. After a day of driving to Chitzen Itza, Uxmal, or Celestun, Hotel Yakunah was like an oasis where one could relax and have a few cervesas in a very pleasant enjoyabe setting. After sampling many of the restaurants on the Malecon ( the promenade that runs next to the beach which is lined with palm trees), we found Gerben's cooking to be the finest in Progresso.
If you are thinking of driving the Yucatan, which is very easy, with good well marked roads and next to impossible to get lost on; I would highly recommend a few nights stay at Yakunah. We stayed 9 nights and loved it.

“The Best place to stay in Progreso”

Hotel Yakunah

15 Oct 2007

We stayed at this charming Hotel in April of '07 for 4 nights.
Hotel owners Elkie and Gerban were very proffesional while at the same time tending to their guests like they were family. Our room was spotless and had a huge modern bathroom....the shower was big enough for 2. A/C worked perfectly.
We ate breakfast at the hotel and it was excellent.Gerban cooks and Elkie draws a mean super chilled cervesa! The pool was cool and clean. The garden area that you lounge around was tidy ,private and made for some very relaxing r&r.
If you are looking for a well maintained hotel with safe, comfortable surroundings, good food, nice people, this is a must stop on your vacation.
Thanks again Elkie and Gerban, hope to see you and your daughter Michelle on our next vacation!

“Great Host at the Yakunah”

Hotel Yakunah

28 Aug 2007

If you are going to Progresso, Mexico a stay at Hotel Yakunah is a pleasure. The friendship (Michelle, Elke and Gerben ) , the food and linens are all great. We had fun staying there at a very trying time for us while we were purchasing land in Mexico.

Thanks,
Pat & Mike Niles

Yakunah Hotel in Progreso was like visiting family, I hated leaving. It was wonderful. A couple own it and they speak english as well as spanish. They are both from Holland. Elke and Gerben. What great people, not only did I visit a place, that made me comfortable from the minute I walked in, but I made great friends.
Gerban is also a gourmet cook....just to add to his wonderful comfort there.
You can't beat it for the price. Even if they charged more I would stay there, but I won't tell them that.
I have traveled quite a bit, so for me to say this is major.
Thanks Yakunah....Elke and Gerben
