We stayed at the Audax over the first week of June. We would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a relaxing break. The main reason is it is a children-free hotel. Peace around the pool.
The Room: we had a room on the 4th floor with a sea view. We did not hear any noise at all from the restaurant. The room is spacious enough, very clean, good sized bathroom with powerful shower. The hairdryer in the bathroom was better than my travel one. Only a small niggle was not enough hangers in the wardrobe.
The Pool & Pool Bar: lovely friendly staff, decent enough snack food and good coffee. The pools are lovely and sunbeds are good. I believe the hotel was not to full capacity during our stay and I would imagine that there would be a rush for sunbeds in July and August as there clearly is not enough to go round.
The Restaurants: we ate in the 4th and 5th floor restaurants. Both are lovely. Great breakfasts especially the omletters and pastries. Nice selection of wine with dinner at reasonable prices. If you have not finished the bottle they will keep it to serve you on the following night. Good enough choice. We always ask for our meat to be cooked well done. They do like it rare.
Evening Entertainment: The Blue Bar on the ground floor has some great cocktails and a variety of singers in the evening. Good singers who play quite late.
The Spa: the best €20 we spent all holiday. We had the place to ourselves as we booked for 9.30am. The best spa I have been to. Different showers, the 34 degrees pool, the Jacuzzi Beds, the cold plunge pool at 12 degrees followed by the tingly 38 degrees pool – what an experience! We also tried out the Steam Room, Sauna and Thermal Room. Brilliant way to spend 90 mins. You must try it.
The Watersports: We spend an afternoon Kayaking. Alex was our local guide and he was very knowledgeable about the island. We had a fun time going through the caves and visiting another beach. It is quite strenuous. He also provided us with around 60 photos he took (on a DVD). €35 each for the kayak hire and guide. Trip lasted about 3 hours. Good value for money.
The Resort: Cala Galdana has a really lovely beach and safe clean water. It’s quite shallow with virtually no waves so good for kids. Loungers are €15 a day for two. Pricey enough but you need the umbrella shade. However, there are shops that sell parasols for €10 so if you are going more than one this could be an option for you. The resort is quiet but has enough for us.
Other Restaurants: we also ate out 2 evenings. First was in Cala Mitjana. We were received warmly by the host and he showed us the fresh catch of the day. We went with a couple of starter and the lobster paella. Very tasty, if a bit messy. This is expensive but if you really like your fish then this place is a must. Irish Coffee afterwards was more like a dessert and very good one too. The second restaurant we tried was Restaurante El Mirador. Lovely setting on the beach rocks. The host was very funny and kind. We had mixed seafood paella. I would say this is better value for money and definitely better scenery.
