My wife and I stayed at the hotel in the last week on July (the first week of school holidays). On arrival (10am-ish) we were greeted with champagne at reception and told we could check in straight away which was great.
We had requested through Thomson to stay high up in the hotel having read other reviews about the refurbished rooms, and we were put on the 7th floor, with great views of the pool, resort and the bay. (We learnt from the reps that the rooms on floors 4-7 have been refurbished, and the remainder will be completed when the hotel closes at the end of the season in October ready for May 2013 next year.
The room was clean, modern and well equipped, with a fridge, free use of a safe, large wardrobe space, flat screen satellite tv, balcony, hairdryer, toiletries etc, and the room was serviced daily. Only downsides were the twin beds and the a/c, which never seemed to really get going.
Choosing half board, you can have either lunch or dinner included and choose this on a daily basis, and the range and quality of the food at all meal times was very good (to the point where we only ate out one evening at the nearby El Mirador seafood restaurant, which was excellent).
Unlike others have mentioned, we didn’t find the pool area that crowded, and it was refreshing to know that you could pretty much find a couple of sun loungers throughout the day (they request that you don’t reserve a lounger with a towel for more than 30 minutes).
The Blue Cafe bar on the ground floor by the harbour side felt upmarket and provided a relaxing environment for evening cocktails, and a couple of acoustic performers provided classy low key entertainment.
There are limited gym facilities (cardio and weights) and an upmarket spa centre, which we used on one occasion (1 ½ hours of the thermal circuit and baths and a mini-treatment was a reasonable 30 Euros each).
As other reviews have mentioned, this is a nice little resort which hasn’t been overly developed, enjoyed by foreigners and the Menorcans/Spanish alike. For those who like to explore without car rental, Thomson offered a number of good excursions which helped us to see a number of places of interest around the island. The hotel do offer water based activities in the bay, which seemed to be very popular, although we didn’t take advantage of this.
Finally, we should mention the hotel staff, all of which were incredibly polite, efficient and keen to make your holiday was relaxing and enjoyable as possible.
Overall, a great holiday in a peaceful setting (thanks to no screaming children by the pool!), at a classy hotel on a beautiful island. Highly recommended.
The higher the better.
