“Relaxing vacation”

We were actually looking for an all inclusive, since we were in urgent need of a one week vacation without too much trouble of thinking and planning for food, beaches and comfort. We then found this hotel with half board through Tripadvisor. Since we had never been in Menorca before, we decides to give it a chance. It turned out to be one of our best vacations ever. The hotel, the beach and it´s beautiful surroundings were excellent for a relaxing stay. The restaurants at the hotel had buffes with large variety and you could always find good food without eating the same every day. The beach and the water were very clean, but we suggest you book a sun bed since it´s not that expencive (only 22 euros a day for 2 sun beds and a parasol). When you see pictures of the water at Menorca - it looks exactely like that. The rooms at the hotel are medium size, but you shoultd absolutely book a sea view room - it´s well worth the money spent. If you are leaving late, the hotel offers you a courtesy room that you can use to change and take a quick shower. We did not use the spa this time, but it offers a large variety of treatments. We will absolutely try several of them the next time. One thing worth mentioning: You know when you fill in surveys, you normally get no respons ore a standard letter at most. This hotel sent us a detailed letter where they adressed each of our comments. This is is a small thing but it gives us as customers another reason to visit them again.

“Very pleasantly surprised!”

Hotel Audax

We booked the Audax for a weeks break and following some negative reviews on this and other sites were somewhat unsure as to what to expect.

These however proved groundless as from the time we arrived to the time we left we couldn’t fault the facilities or service we received.

All the Reception staff spoke excellent English (as well as mandatory spanishGerman, French, Italian, Dutch and even a smattering of Icelandic!), and made us welcome from the start explaining how to get tea and coffee making facilities, the dining times, spa facilities etc. When we looked around we found our cases had already been taken to our room by the porter (a nice touch we thought).

We were allocated a room overlooking the pool area on floor six which although in the shade most of the day proved a cool haven when needs be (our air conditioning system was also very effective). We felt that compared to the rooms with a sea view for which there was an additional charge, we’d lucked out with a good view across at the village of Cala Galdana itself.

The room was modest in size with a small bathroom but was clean and well equipped with mini bar and safe (€15 charge). The room was cleaned on a daily basis and towels changed as required.

The pool area was excellent with plenty of beds in both sun and shade available although the towels tended to go out in the popular areas by 9.00am. The pool bar was fine with friendly staff and provided a decent snack meal at lunchtimes if needed.

Main meals were served in two restaurants, both self-service, buffet style. Food was good and plentiful and each night if you wanted a break from the buffet, there was speciality cooking in a small kitchen area off the restaurant with themes such as Menorcan fare, Paella and charcuterie and cheese etc. The waiting staff were quick to clear away dishes and plates and attentive to our needs if required.

Evening entertainment focussed on the ground floor bar area and ranged from good to excellent, the Monday night jazz quartet and the illusionist were absolutely brilliant. Bar prices were also reasonable for a hotel.

We also took advantage of the excellent spa facilities and would strongly recommend the spa circuit at €18-20 which allowed ninety minutes taking advantage of the various spa pools, baths, hydro massages and speciality showers as well as the sauna, steam and hot rooms.

Cala Galdana itself was rather quiet although as we were coming to the end of the main season it was perhaps not unexpected.

In summary we were absolutely delighted with the Audax. It provided us with a relaxing and stress free holiday

“A lovely, relaxing holiday at the Audax”

Hotel Audax

8 Sep 2007
11/12 found this review helpful

We went with our two teenage children to the Audax for a week in August. The hotel was clean and comfortable and I would say the four star rating was fair (though possibly not the four star plus in our brochure). The food was generally of a good standard and a fair selection (given that it isn't a particularly big hotel). There is an option to have lunch instead of dinner, which we did one day, and the lunch food was of a very high standard (freshly prepared, hot and a plentiful selection given that it was catering for a lot less people). Lots of fresh fruit and nice desserts. The smaller of the two restaurants offered show cooking, including omelettes for breakfast, the larger had an Italian corner each night.

The staff were helpful - when we first arrived late at night we were allocated a room without a balcony because of over-booking and were moved the next morning but the manager offered compensation by way of sparkling wine and fruit delivered to our rooms, an offer of free lunch one day and a later check out on our departure day, without being asked. We also had a cold meat plate, fruit and juice left in our rooms on our arrival as we were too late for dinner.

The location was great - a short walk across the bridge takes you to the gorgeous beach (although this was very busy in peak season) and beautiful bay. Don't bother paying out for umbrellas and loungers (quite expensive), just lay your beach towels in the shade of the pine trees fringing the beach. The resort of Cala Galadan is quite small so it was an easy stroll from the Audax at one end to the Hotel Cala Galdana at the other. There were a selection of shops and bars and entertainment at the hotels, which was fine. We liked the outdoor bar at the Audax. There is a bus stop opposite to the Hotel Cala Galdana where you can get a bus to Mahon (the new capital) or Cuitadella (the old one). Both are well worth a visit , Cuitadella was particularly pretty and Mahon had a very impressive port. There are only 2/3 buses per day, so check the times (we got a timetable from the hotel), although taxis are regulated and quite reasonable.

Don't bother with the supposed 30 minute walk to the next bay - after a hot, dusty 30 minute scramble we were no nearer than when we started...

“Silver Wedding re-visit”

Hotel Audax

7/7 found this review helpful

Just returned from a fantastic week at the Audax. Last stayed there on honeymoon 25 years ago, when my wife was unfortunately ill for a couple of days. Decided to re-visit for our silver wedding . We weren't disappointed! had an absolutely fabulous week there. Stayed on the 4 floor with a sea view. Having arrived in the evening, we awoke to the most fantastic view over the bay, definitely woth the extra. Hotel was spotless and staff terriffic, nothing too much trouble all very helpful. The hotel is a Spa hotel, not sure what that entailed fully until we visited the Spa. If you want a treat to pamper yourself go visit, you won't be disappointed. There are lots of things to do at and around the hotel when you look including mountain biking trails, giuded/unguided walking kayaking etc. There is a fully equipped gym in the basement also. Whilst not ultra modern, the hotel has a style and comfort which grew on us daily. There is no sense at all of the numbers of guests staying there. 2 restaurants, visited both but preferred the 4th floor restaurant. Would not hesitate to recommend. If you want nightclubs and lively, try Majorca, for a great holiday go to the Audax !

I stayed at the Audax Hotel for two weeks at the end of July, early August and it was lovely. We have been to Cala Galdana many times for day trips whilst staying in villa accomodation in Menorca and thought that we'd go for the no cooking option this time round.

The buffet in both restaurants was very nice, although some of the dishes were not labelled sometimes. Always, lots of choice and the dessert buffet was always very tempting.

Staff were all very nice and helpful - nothing was too much trouble.

Pool wonderful as there is an area for adults and separate area for children. Althoug the hotel caters mostly for adults (couples) children are made very welcome.

We shared a standard room with our 7 year old son, which was adequate, but could have been a bit more space at times!

We paid extra for a sea view and it was every bit worth it.

Most of the hotels, including the Audax, had nightly entertainment which was a good selection, which didn't go on till the early hours.

We would stay at the Audax again and would definitely recommend it to anyone.
