The best part of the complex is the pool/bathing area - quite pretty and roomy with lots of free beds. The bar staff are friendly and helpful. The apartments are very basic ( I expected this as it was rated a ** star) and cleaned freqently ( bedding and towels were spotless) but overall could do with updating - a little fusty, nicotene stained woodwork, old stains on the sofa - overall appearance was careworn. We encountered ants in the apartment but the worst thing by far was the level of noise due to very poor sound proofing. We could hear others clearly, hence didn't sleep too well!
The location is ideal for self-catering as there are numerous places to eat which are well situated overlooking the coastline. I would recommend the chinese restaurant at the bottom of the hill - surperb! Also Hannover II is a small place ( looks rather insignificant from the outside and easily overlooked) but the food and service is of a very good quality.
The hill can be quite tricky to negotiate as the paths are laid with ceramic tiles and so are very slippery and a hazard, particularly for the older generation.

my husband and i are just back from plaza palmeras and had a really good holiday ,the aptmts are basic but they are spotlessely clean .staff are friendly and helpful. we wouldnt hesitate to recommend them to others. this was our first trip to lanzarote and i found the island to be really picturesque with all the lowrise whitewashed buildings, a nice change from majorca or benidorm.

We arrived in the afternoon on February 28th to a very short and exciting coach journey ! It took about 15 minutes and when entering Puerto del Carmen i was really enjoying the site of what i called the "Spanish Blackpool"

We got to the Apartment and was welcomed friendy by the receptionist , whom was bothsmiley and promt !

Its a great place with the rooms situated around 3 sides of the pool and a large bar/resteraunt at the other side .

The rooms are both ideal and clean , you did see the odd ant near the verander doors but to be honest werever you go you can not stop nature !
Saying that I didnt see 1 cockroach all week wherever we went.

You do however have to pay for the television through a coin slot attached to the television - 1 euro = 40 mins , you do get a good selection of english channels aswell , imho you aint there to watch tv are ya !

The maid came and cleaned everyday except on the weekend but if your like us n tidy up after yourselves this wasn't a burden .

The pool(s) are quite fairly sized, but i am a beach person myself so didnt really use them.
They was cleaned every morning aswell.

Lots of shops on the strip .

Good bars - I reccomend to the Hippodrome !! It had great music a large screen with various entertainment playing . You got 2 pints for 4 Euro and free shots all night .
If you go , and see India(The bar girl) tell her Joe n Chelle say Hi .

A Great holiday - Enjoyed It and would deffinetly stay at Plaza Palmeras again ......

We stayed at Plaza Palmeras last August, they are situated in the new town but right at the other end of the "Strip" up a big hill, so if you feel you cannot "do hills" then avoid these apartments. The apartments themselves are very basic to say the least, they were clean (but had ants) also we did hear from neighbouring holidaymakers that they had cockroaches in there apartment, but I can honestly say we didnt see any in our rooms. (but when in Lanzarote as we have been before, 3 times now, i always put all plugs in the bathroom and kitchen when not being used, as i dont like anything of the creepy crawly variety...lol)
We did see the odd one running around the complex now and again, (I am scared to death of them), but as we were told "they live here".......mmm dont really care that they live here i dont want them anywhere near me....lol. But if you have been to tenerife the cockroaches are rife there so you will know....but it is nothing like that in Lanzarote, we feel it is much cleaner/nicer than tenerife, also there is no high-rise buildings on Lanzarote as it against the law to build anything over 2/3 storey high...so it looks much nicer.
....erm you had to hire a toaster and the cushions for the sunloungers and of course the safe in your room...but not expensive at all.
The pool was nice but freezing cold...and thats in the height of the season, but once your in its lovely, as it is extremely hot....but in Lanzarote you get a slight breeze all day long it is a very breezy island. so watch yourself in that mid-day sun you dont think you are catching it because of the breeze but believe me you definately are.
Previously on trips to Lanzarote we have stayed in the old town which I can definately recommend, the old town is lovely and the harbour is gorgeous.
If you go beginnning of August (dont know exact date) but they have a big fiesta in the old town and it lasts for about a week...that was really really nice...its busy lots of spanish there and lots of things for the kids to do....with a fair etc etc.
In the old town there is a big shopping centre called the Biosfera, with mini golf and trampolines for the kids, and of course some lovely shops if you like a bit of retail therapy, just down from the Biosfera I can recommend 3 lovely restaurants, there is an Indian on the corner then just down from there is an Italian (a definate must, its lovely) and then just a bit further down is a lovely chinese restaurant, all very nice. plus if you walk down to the harbour there is a whole host of lovely fish restaurants over-looking the sea.....beautiful.
But as you will be staying at the other end of the new town there is a whole host of lovely restaurants to choose from.....you are spoilt for choice.....I can recommend Cafe' Ola' (think thats how it is spelt) if you walk down the hill from plaza palmeras at the bottom near supermarket turn left, walk further up and cross over the road to the beach/sea and walk a little further up you will find it....it is overlooking the sea, it is quite "up-market" but well worth it...the food is gorgeous and the menu very varied. also when you have finished your meal there are lovely loungers/comfy areas downstairs looking over the beach/sea where you can have lovely cocktails with your feet up in comfort and it is open very late!!
Back to the apartments........there is entertainment most nights if you like that kind of thing?.....live music/kareoke etc., they also have music around the pool on certain days with a quiz. if you like joining in. i think it is a safe complex for the kids to.
Overall i would say its a good base to explore Lanzarote and definately only a 2 star but at the end of the day you are only sleeping there arent you. But i think there are much nicer apartments to stay in some just yards away from here. I dont think I would stay here again but if it was a "cheap deal" then go for it. its basic and clean and has a nice pool area if your not going to the beach.
Enjoy your hols...its what you make it...not the apartment!!!

p.s. definately go tho the Music Hall Tavern......its a fab drag show....well worth the money...its fantastic and very funny, and the drag artists are really lovely people....its a must!!!!

Had a great time here. the weather was ok but it was march so got a little chilly in the breeze. The rooms were basic but large. Me and my boyfriend went it was our 1st holiday together, the ppl were really friendly but if you want nightlife go into town, 5 min walk down the hill is ok after the second day its not that bad. the best bar is paradise at the bottem of the hill the staf challenge you to drinking contests get you dancing. There is one bar that opens at midnight until 7am but cant remember that night.lol. also the redz bar is great fun only small but the main guy there is really good at winding the lads up doing stupid quizzes. I think this place is great if your up for a laugh and want to drink the night away every barman trys to drag you in with shot so dont expect an early night, walk on the opposite side of the road if you dont want to be dragged in. Also excursions are resonbly priced but we went on a boat trip in march it was freezing the wind was that bad you all had to cram into a little space.
