We stayed at Plaza Palmeras last August, they are situated in the new town but right at the other end of the "Strip" up a big hill, so if you feel you cannot "do hills" then avoid these apartments. The apartments themselves are very basic to say the least, they were clean (but had ants) also we did hear from neighbouring holidaymakers that they had cockroaches in there apartment, but I can honestly say we didnt see any in our rooms. (but when in Lanzarote as we have been before, 3 times now, i always put all plugs in the bathroom and kitchen when not being used, as i dont like anything of the creepy crawly variety...lol)
We did see the odd one running around the complex now and again, (I am scared to death of them), but as we were told "they live here".......mmm dont really care that they live here i dont want them anywhere near me....lol. But if you have been to tenerife the cockroaches are rife there so you will know....but it is nothing like that in Lanzarote, we feel it is much cleaner/nicer than tenerife, also there is no high-rise buildings on Lanzarote as it against the law to build anything over 2/3 storey high...so it looks much nicer.
....erm you had to hire a toaster and the cushions for the sunloungers and of course the safe in your room...but not expensive at all.
The pool was nice but freezing cold...and thats in the height of the season, but once your in its lovely, as it is extremely hot....but in Lanzarote you get a slight breeze all day long it is a very breezy island. so watch yourself in that mid-day sun you dont think you are catching it because of the breeze but believe me you definately are.
Previously on trips to Lanzarote we have stayed in the old town which I can definately recommend, the old town is lovely and the harbour is gorgeous.
If you go beginnning of August (dont know exact date) but they have a big fiesta in the old town and it lasts for about a week...that was really really nice...its busy lots of spanish there and lots of things for the kids to do....with a fair etc etc.
In the old town there is a big shopping centre called the Biosfera, with mini golf and trampolines for the kids, and of course some lovely shops if you like a bit of retail therapy, just down from the Biosfera I can recommend 3 lovely restaurants, there is an Indian on the corner then just down from there is an Italian (a definate must, its lovely) and then just a bit further down is a lovely chinese restaurant, all very nice. plus if you walk down to the harbour there is a whole host of lovely fish restaurants over-looking the sea.....beautiful.
But as you will be staying at the other end of the new town there is a whole host of lovely restaurants to choose from.....you are spoilt for choice.....I can recommend Cafe' Ola' (think thats how it is spelt) if you walk down the hill from plaza palmeras at the bottom near supermarket turn left, walk further up and cross over the road to the beach/sea and walk a little further up you will find it....it is overlooking the sea, it is quite "up-market" but well worth it...the food is gorgeous and the menu very varied. also when you have finished your meal there are lovely loungers/comfy areas downstairs looking over the beach/sea where you can have lovely cocktails with your feet up in comfort and it is open very late!!
Back to the apartments........there is entertainment most nights if you like that kind of thing?.....live music/kareoke etc., they also have music around the pool on certain days with a quiz. if you like joining in. i think it is a safe complex for the kids to.
Overall i would say its a good base to explore Lanzarote and definately only a 2 star but at the end of the day you are only sleeping there arent you. But i think there are much nicer apartments to stay in some just yards away from here. I dont think I would stay here again but if it was a "cheap deal" then go for it. its basic and clean and has a nice pool area if your not going to the beach.
Enjoy your hols...its what you make it...not the apartment!!!
p.s. definately go tho the Music Hall Tavern......its a fab drag show....well worth the money...its fantastic and very funny, and the drag artists are really lovely people....its a must!!!!
