Had an absolute superb holiday at the Costa Calero. We have been to Lanzarote a number of times and on one of our visits, went to Puerto Calero and saw the hotel and decided we would have to stay there.

Having travelled 4 times with our nearly 3 year old, this was by far the best place we have stayed with him. Superb facilities, playground, childrens pool, food and the evening 'disco', made our son a very happy little boy!!

We had a room on the ground floor, and whilst we didn't get a 'sea view' , still had a great view of the pool and it gave us more peace of mind as we had our young son with us.

We took the 'All inclusive' option. There was a great range of food at all meals and the drinks were great.

We have decided we will definately be going back. Superb holiday. Only wished we had booked 2 weeks and not one!

“A well run hotel”

Iberostar Costa Calero

The Iberostar Costa Calero is a modern, clean and well run hotel. The gardens are well maintained and provide ample space for guests to lie about in the sun.

The entertainments team try very hard to keep the guests entertained during the day and in the evenings, although the evening entertainment was a little hit-and-miss.

Hotel buffet arrangements can be a bit of a trial, but the food at the Iberostar was of good quality and plentiful, albeit, a bit repetitive.

Staff were always cheerful and helpful and spoke good English.

There are a few decent restaurants down at the marina which is just a few minutes walk away, and we ate in Puerto Del Carman on one occasion.

“Great Holiday Destination for Young Families”

Iberostar Costa Calero

17 Jul 2008

REVIEW DETAILS: 9th June – 22nd June 2008

“Hotel Description”

The Hotel Iberostar Costa Calero is a fairly bold architectural statement, The entrance and surrounding features consist of the rough finishes of unpainted reinforced concrete meets immaculate curtain glazed zones and purposely finished concrete walls finished in a truly Spanish way. You soon get over as another reviewer put it entering a Multi-Storey Carpark fairly quickly.

“Room Service & Room Choice”

The rooms are cleaned daily and to an excellent standard, Safes in the rooms are charged @ 2 Euros per day with a 5 Euro deposit refunded at the end of the trip. If you have any Birthdays, Anniversaries etc during your stay let the Hotel know and you will be treated with a bottle of champagne on ice in your room. We took advise on room selection and opted for a room on the 5th floor between rooms 520 – 559, this is excellent advice we ended up in room 552 and the view and location to the surrounding facilities were excellent.

“Gardens, Sun Beds & General Set up including Towels etc”

The gardens are lovely, photo’s don’t really do any justice. There are lots of secluded areas to relax and hide away with a book, and there are plenty of sunbeds and the hotel provide complimentary beach towels that can be replaced daily with a 10 Euro deposit per towel.

“All Inclusive Plus”

The All Inclusive for drinks cover all most all Branded Spirits, International champagne can be purchased at 30 Euros, branded International beers can be purchased at around 3 Euros each but the local beer is pretty good! Cocktails are good but they tend to take some time to produce and make the bar queue in the evening in the Entertainment area.

“Review of Restaurant Food, Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner”

This is the third Iberostar that we have stayed at and I would say that the food standard at all meal times were excellent, possibly the second out of the three Hotels in this chain so far. There was a good choice at all times, salads options are excellent with the Roast meats being tender and delicious, cannot give anything other than praise for the breakfast spread. Pancakes with Chocolate sauce are worth a try followed by full English option with cereal and fruit to finish.

“Alternatives to All Inclusive”

If you get bored of the All Inclusive regime, try the Marina Restaurants with Michelin Star dining along with a selection of other reasonably priced restaurants, Papagalo Italian restaurant was very good.

“Car Hire Costs and review of Excursions”

34 Euros per day for a Citroen C3 with Air-con direct from the Hotel reception, don’t think that there is enough to see on the Island to take advantage of the 4 for 3 deal.
Papagayo Beach and similar beaches are good but not great, the National Park is worth a visit at a charge of 15 Euros per person.

“Piano Bar & Entertainment Shows”

The Piano Bar patio is excellent, although a bit windy but the view is fantastic well worth a drink or two watching the sun set over the mountains with the coastline of Fuertaventura in the background.

There were a number of weddings that took place during our break often with Fireworks displays, which were great to watch from the Balcony with a drink or two.

“Only Two Criticisms that we would have”

The Pools aren’t heated and they come as a shock to the little ones and take some getting used to, The best pool for playing in the pool with your children is the lower level pool which tended to heat up and seemed the safest for youngsters.

Some of the older clientele took the entertainment shows too seriously, getting overly concerned that the local entertainments version of Grease was ruined by three young children who ran to the side of the stage during the show, thankfully this opinion was only held by two ladies in their late 60’s you know who you are and should be ashamed, I didn’t realise the elder generation could swear like that!!!!

Would we go back, YES without question looking at a break in October 2008 and that is very unlike us, as there are plenty of places to see and visit.

“Numero Uno in Lanzarote”

Iberostar Costa Calero

13 Jul 2008
3/3 found this review helpful

This hotel rightly deserves its tag as number 1 hotel in lanzarote. Having tried other 4 star hotels on the island (Occidental Allegro, Papagayo Arena) the Costa Calero must be close to a 5 Star.

The previous positive reviews sum it up perfectly and if you can get a good deal at this place it will be money well spent.

The piano bar is a perfect place to relax and enjoy the views prior to going for dinner. If you enjoy a few drinks the all inclusive option is a must, the hotel provide proper international brands like bacardi, pernod, vina sol etc i have to admit to using my all inc card a little bit to much.

The 3 swimming pools are great plus a smaller pool for toddlers, as has been mentioned sunbeds are plentifull and not rickety old bits of plastic, in fact they are the best sun beds i have come across, plenty of parasols available in case the sun gets a bit hot.

The weather was perfect with the temperature edging past 30C most days, the wind gets up occasionally which is common in the canaries but it was never a problem.

The rooms were of a good standard with the cleaner adding a few extra touches like contorting the towels into animal shapes?? i dont know why but it made us laugh especially when she stuck a pair of sunglasses onto the towel elephant she made, i felt guilty using the towel to dry myself with.

The meals were pretty much that of a typical 4 star canarian hotel although i think some food reviews were a little harsh, lets face it they can't do bacon how we like it can they i.e wheres the meat? But..
.the standards very high again, omelletes while you wait, proper fruit juice if you looked hard enough, overall i enjoyed the breakfast, lunch had a good selection lots of fish and even rabbit!! they must import them as i have never seen rabbits in the canaries. I did'nt try that one. The evening meal was in my opinion the best meal, plenty of choice with all kinds of meats, fish and salads. We sat outside in the fresh air with a chilled bottle of white wine with our meal.

Occasionally the hotel cat would pay us a visit, at first i thought it was heavily pregnant and offered it the odd bit of fish that was readily wolfed down, later in the week i found out the cat is called Oscar and is just...fat! He saw me coming as they say. One minor disappointment is the toaster, its crap to be honest but they are aware of it and im sure its been replaced.

Entertainment..well the more i drank the better it got if you know what i mean, the kids seemed to be entertained and the in house team did there best. The bar stays open till 1 am.

The marina is a very relaxing place, it seems to be trying to make itself into a very exclusive area like Cannes with all the designer shops, thing is the designer prices are very expensive and i did'nt see many shoppers, Even so theres a couple of nice bars plus a catamarran trip which is great way to spend an afternoon.

Overall i would highly recommend this hotel to couples and families alike, its probably a bit quiet if you want thumping loud music (Puerto Del Carmen not far away if thats what you want). Lanzarote is a lovely island and the Costa Calero is the perfect place to check it out.

Can't wait to go again.

“FANTASTIC HOTEL”

Iberostar Costa Calero

Save Review
4 of 5 stars
Bolton, Lancs
10 Jul 2008

Me and my boyfriend stayed at this hotel from the 29th June 2008 for one week. Upon arrival, whilst we checked in we were offered a glass of champagne or orange juice which i thought added a nice touch.

The reception staff were pleasant and helpful. They went through everything from room facilties to catching the free bus into town.
We had a room on the second floor with a balcony and a view of the main pool. The room was spacious, clean and well presented.

We spent most days by the pool. There are hundreds of sunbeds so it's unbelievable that people still put there towels on the sunbeds to reserve them. We never had a problem finding a nice place to sunbathe. The only bad point is that the pools are ice cold - and i mean ice cold! I couldn't face putting my whole body in the pool and with the breeze it just means you're freezing whilst you are in there. The salt water pool seemed to be the warmest.

We stayed all inclusive and i couldn't fault it. I'm vegetarian and fussy and i managed to eat well the whole week. I did get bored of the food towards the end of the week but that's just because of my personal preference.

We ate out at the harbour on our last night, which is within 5 minute walking distance of the hotel. It's a lovely little harbour and there's a small choice of restaurants. We decided to eat at the little irish bar as it seemed friendly and we were in need of a hearty meal.

All in all, i would recommend this hotel to anyone. There is a mixture of ages that stay in the hotel and the staff are friendly and courteous. Also rooms get cleaned every day and the maids would always try to decorate your bed, towels etc for that personal touch.
