Connel is a lovely place to stay, and we were warmly welcomed by our host at the B&B we stayed in when we were there. Lloyd Halliday runs the Mactalla Guest House and we first met him at the village store where he was serving behind the counter. We purchased some Scotch whiskey there (Oban) and then wandered back towards the Mactalla, enjoying the beautiful views of Loch Etive and the basking seals near the Falls of Lora.
Connel was a lovely place to catch our breath after our journey from Glasgow and our first experience of driving on the other side of the road.
Lloyd recommended the Oyster Inn in Connel and we enjoyed a delightful sea food meal with an amazing view of the Harbour in Connel. We couldn't get enough of the sun setting over Loch Etive.
The Oyster Inn was so good that we ate at the Glue Pot (an 18th century pub) which is adjacent to the Inn. A good Scots pub dinner with fair prices and good beer was enjoyed by us both.
Lloyd made us a lovely Scottish breakfast before we travelled to Oban and then to Mull and Iona and he was a wealth of information about the area and how to get where we wanted to go.
