We've booked this resort as a last minute deal without doing any proper research. And how we regret this now!
In reality, it is only 2 star resort that looks depressed and needs lot of updating. It is in the middle of nowhere, our taxi ride there from the airport was quite nerve racking, we've been even stopped half way by group of soldiers with guns and after some debating with taxi driver we were allowed to continue. We haven't been put off, though. Once at the resort you have to go through huge gate and once inside you're locked and unable to get out without hassle from security guards. On first impression resort itself looks OK, and it's quite spread out. It was right on the beach, but because it was quite cold we didn't have the opportunity to check it out properly.
Check in & Staff:
Considered it was middle of the night, receptionist wasn't very happy to see us and was even more unhappy when discovered we were English. Staff is for some reason extremely rude towards British, and they wouldn't even bother speaking english, they only communicate in French and German as they mainly cater for French and German tourist. Animation team is the bunch of the most rudest and disrespectful people we ever met. They were pestering us at all times to join their primitive activities only to give them a tip. When we told them NO again and again, it was only then they decided to ignore us completely along with the rest of the staff. The only friendly people were maids. We also caught receptionist entering our room once without knocking assuming we weren't in and he didn't wanted to tell us the reason. Reception also wanted to keep our passports until we check out which we did not agree with and it caused one heated argument.
We were happy with our room, it was big with nice balcony, however balcony didn't have any seats or table. Rooms were cleaned daily, bathroom was smaller but clean. It didn't have fridge so no such thing as bottled water and you had to only rely on meal times if you wanted to drink!!!
This is the reason I beg you guys to stay away, spend little bit more money and choose proper resort. There were flies absolutely everywhere, food wasn't cooked every day, it was only re-heated and there was not sign of hygienne whatsoever! We couldn't buy our own food as we were in the middle of nowhere with no shops. We were so sick that flight home was the most longest and painful thing we've ever done. We had 39 celsius temperature for three days and unable to move, constant diarrhea with excruciating abdominal pain. We had to see our GP back home who sign us off work for a week and took sample from us. Tests showed we caught Shigella - acute infection of lining of small intestine. It is caused by poor sanitation, inadequate water supplies, contaminated food, crowded living conditions, and fly-infested environments. GP had to give us some antibiotics for us to feel better. The irony is that we have decided to check out after three days and went to visit capital Tunis to proper 5 star hotel - no beach, but we had more fun in the city visiting all tourist attractions. So if we would've stayed at Sun Beach resort for more than 3 days I do not want to imagine how ill we could have been. In addition, our GP told us that Shigella - the virus will stay in our bodies for the rest of our lives but it's harmless now, therefore we are immune if we go again! Not happening!!!!!!!!!!!!
