“Beautiful, friendly koutouloufari”

We have just returned from the beautiful island of Crete and the lovely resort of Koutouloufari, just above Hersonnissos.
We booked last minute to stay at the Ariadni apts and were a little worried we could be in the middle of nowhere, once we arrived our fears disssapeared when we saw it was a lively little village.
The Ariadni apts were lovely, we were very happy with our apt then we learned that the other side had foot spa's and massage showers, we were told that next year all the apts would be done like this.
There is a restaurant and bar there too, serving drinks till the last person leaves. Manos is the barman and he is lovely, he asks everyone their names and does well that he remembers most of them. On Sunday they have a baebecue night and for 13euros you get salads, garlic bread, chicken, chops, kebabs and potatoes, then it is quiz time, be warned, nominate a captain who you think will make the biggest pratt of themselves, sit back and laugh!!!
We payed for air conditioning which was a god send, we opened our bedroom door to keep cool but the noise from the bar kept us awake, so with air con we could keep it shut and sleep!!!
Hersonnissos is about a 20 min walk down the hill and about 30 min back up! Taxi's are about 6euros if you find the walk too much.
There is'nt a lot of room around the pool for sunbed's so it may be wise to get up early-ish if you want one.
The restaurants were lovely and reasonably priced, meat dishes being more abundant than fish, and you got lot's of meat!
We took a local bus to Agious Nickolaos which was 3.5euros each way and took about 40 mins. If you take the bus get off and on in the bus station as it is a bit out of the centre and hard to find if you don't know where you are going.
We would definetly go back to the Ariadni as it was a lovely friendly family run apt block.
